2018 Atlanta Braves thread

God, I hate called third strikes, especially with runners in scoring position. It should never happen, really. If it's close, swing. Worse case scenario is you miss and the same thing will happen as it would if you didn't swing.

Snitker just sits on his ass and lets Newk struggle when he clearly doesn't have it, and the lead melts away.

Manage to win the fukking game. I don't care if it's the third inning or not. Newcomb has nothing today and it was obvious in the 2nd inning.

Let your starter battle through it when you're facing the Mets or the Marlins. Not the friggin Red Sox.

ETA: Newcomb had the perfect guy up to let him and the inning... Swihart, and his wRC+ of like 25. He's a worse hitter than Max Scherzer (literally). But Newcomb let him bang one off the wall.

And we will take that! Stupid Fenway and its weird dimensions though. Having to play station to station.

ETA: although it did help us when Newk was pitching.

Benintendi is on my opponent's fantasy team, so that's double awesome.

Also, what's up with so many of our pitchers turning and staring in disbelief when they give up bombs? Kind of annoying.

Snit gonna Snit. Moylan is cruising and he brings in the LOOGY Freeman who promptly beans Benintendi.

And then leaves in Freeman to face Martinez. This should end well.

We're falling back down to about where we're supposed to be. A pretty decent team on the rise that can win some games, but not quite ready yet.
Yup, which is why AA should absolutely not make any crazy trades. We need to keep all of our pieces, especially with our ban from the international market.

A little adversity isn't necessarily a bad thing.
Plenty more than a "little" adversity is upon us. Check out our schedule after we leave Boston, until June 3rd. And we will no longer be in 1st place if the Phillies win today, and oh by the way, Washington lurks.

I know I seem like I'm being insanely negative, but it's more just a reaction to so many on Twitter and in the Atlanta market proclaiming the Braves are "back" and are a playoff contender. They 10000% are not a playoff contender.

I am definitely not one of the fans who think the Braves are currently a playoff contender right now. They have played better than I expected so far, but they're not there yet.

Right. Their early success can be attributed to many of their players playing well, well above their projected norm (Markakis, Suzuki, Newcomb, Albies, Carle, etc.).

This team has way too many glaring holes -- 3B, SP quality and quantity, bullpen quality -- to be considered a playoff team. They are still 4-5 acquisitions away from truly being a team that can actually win a playoff series. Four or five.

Their shitty ballpark. I don't give a shit about its history. F that place.

That’s one of the things I actuallly still love about baseball, the ability to have different parks which leads to actual home field advantages. In the NFL, NHL, and NBA every field/rink/court needs to be identical. It’s nice to have some varying fields in MLB.

Agreed.

Not that y'all will probably care, but soccer is also a sport where you can play with the field dimensions to create a home field advantage. FIFA does have regulations for field dimensions, but it's a range. Length can be 110-120 yards, and width can be 70-80 yards. It may not sound like much, but if you're a team that wants to focus on playing through the middle, chopping 10 total yards off the field width is pretty huge and could really mess with the other team.

Anyway, yes, I do like that baseball can create stadium quirks.

The Yankees lineup is officially whole once more. Now for the love of God, Greg Bird, stay healthy.

And Cashman go out and get another starting pitcher please.

@coolwaterunc I have zero complaints about Folty today. It's crazy. It's like him and Newcomb switched for this series. Newk looked very Folty-like yesterday and Folty looks very Newk-like today.

Loving it. Now please hold Benintendi hitless for the rest of the game please *prayer emoji*
