The offense has stopped doing what caused it to be so dynamic and explosive earlier in the year, which was get on base and wreak havoc on the basepaths. Now, it looks like everyone is trying to he a hero and hit one 450 feet.
By my count, we went 11-9 in the span that just finished. I'll take it for sure, especially since we held off the Nats and are done with the Phillies until September. On paper, June's schedule is much easier, but who knows. We have the potential to bank 15 or more wins in the month of June, including the 2 we already have.I'm loving it, but things are about to get real interesting:
14 of our next 21 games are:
- four vs. the Cubs (1 makeup at Wrigley tmo and then 3 in Atlanta)
- three at Philly, followed by
- three at Boston
- four vs. Washington
That's a big ol' yikes. We get three vs. the Marlins sprinkled in during that stretch, which is nice, but we also have four vs. the Mets in that stretch too... who I honestly could've included in the "tough" groupings above because they could easily put the pieces together by then. And the projections have us facing deGrom and Syndergaard.
So, that's 14 divisional games in our next 21. The good news is so far we have feasted on divisional foes (17-8 by my count), but there's no guarantee that will continue. Also, this team has to stay healthy because we are thin at multiple key positions in terms of backup depth.
Also, and this last but not least, Washington is now officially ON FIRE (4 wins in a row; 8-2 in their last 10), so it's a matter of when, not if, Washington surpasses us for first place, and it will be interesting to see how this young Braves team copes with that mentally.
TL;DR: These next 21 games are huge. June's schedule is pretty easy on paper, so if we can survive this 21-game stretch with a ~12-9 or so record, we could fatten up in June and really be in business in terms of hunting for one of the two wild cards. I'm gonna keep a tally of how we do during this stretch. My stated goal is 12-9. Anything better will be gravy.
Didn't vote for the AL, but here's how I voted on the NL All-Star ballot:
C - Francisco Cervelli, Pittsburgh
1B - Freddie Freeman
2B - Ozzie Albies
SS - Trea Turner, Washington
3B - Eugenio Suarez, Cincinnati
OF - Nick Markakis
OF - Matt Kemp, Los Angeles
OF - Tommy Pham, St. Louis
I'm weird I know, but I actually vote for who I think should be an All Star based on merit. While voting... it kinda sunk in to me that there's a lot of "meh" in the outfield for the National League.
Look at his average. Why was Bryce Harper left off the list?
Lol. A beast of a 3B who no one knows about because he plays for the Reds. He was an All Star last year too. The Reds probably have the 3rd or 4th best-hitting infield in the National League between Votto, Gennett, and Suarez (and whatever Peraza can give you).Who in Christ's name is Eugenio Suarez?
He's hitting .232 right now. But the reason I didn't vote for him is have you watched him play outfield lately? He can't make an accurate throw to home plate or to 2B to save his life right now. His defensive play has dropped noticeably. Why was Bryce Harper left off the list?

Those are indeed the correct numbers. I would be comfortable sliding him in over Matt Kemp or Tommy Pham, but I just think Harper is having an off year in categories he usually does well in. He sets the bar high and right now he's not meeting it. You can make an argument I'm being unfair, but hey it's my vote. He’s still got what? 18 homers and 40 something RBIs?
Totally dropped the ball on not voting Blackmon. Missed him. I'll re-vote a few times and sub him in for Pham. I begrudgingly like your Crawford vote (but fukk the Giants)Here's mine. I didn't vote for the AL because I don't care.
C - Kurt Suzuki (HELL YEAH)
1B - Freddie Freeman
2B - Ozzie Albies
3B - Johan Camargo (I'm kidding, I voted Nolan Arenado)
SS - Brandon Crawford
OF - Nick Markakis
OF - Matt Kemp
OF - Charlie Blackmon
Nevermind. We will go 1-5 against SD and LAD. I forgot that we are literal AIDs when we go to the West Coast and/or play West Coast teams in general.By my count, we went 11-9 in the span that just finished. Having a career year. He changed his launch angle and is hitting for a lot more power. I assume he was in the Sox organization at one point?I didn’t know this dink was still kicking around.

Apparently Julio has a thumb injury, but I don't know. He has to have everything working 100% for him to be effective, and that isn't going to cut it. He used to be able to gut through games when he's not at his best, but he hasn't been able to do that consistently in about 2-3 years. I mean, I have more confidence when Anibal Sanchez takes the mound than I do Julio Teheran at this point.@coolwaterunc I'm up late tonight studying for finals, so I've got the Braves game on in the other room, checking in periodically. Julio is done. It's so obvious that's something is wrong, but Snitker will wait until it's 5-0 and the game is over before he removes him. He can't even hit 88 on his fastball and he keeps looking at his hand.
His arm is just dead IMO. But not like a "dead arm," like... he's just got nothing left in the tank, long term. As I type this, he's just walked a guy. Exactly as I say above, Snitker will wait until Teheran effectively kills the game before he makes a change.
We really need Acuña back, and I'm starting to worry about Ender. He hasn't looked comfortable at the plate all year, it seems. I think he needs to be a little more patient.Batting Camargo second is LOL-worthy dumb.
He swung at the first pitch and weakly grounded out to first three times while I'm typing this poast. We really need Acuña back, and I'm starting to worry about Ender. He hasn't looked comfortable at the plate all year, it seems. I think he needs to be a little more patient.
He very well may have some injury, but that's not why the Braves reported that. They reported that because Snitker, in all his managing prowess, was trying to steal as many outs as he could from Julio, and thus had no one warming up in the bullpen to start the bottom of the 5th. Julio walked the first batter on four pitches, none of which were close. Mind you, Julio was glancing into the dugout after every pitch with a look of "uhm... I clearly have nothing, why am I still in the game?" And immediately after the four-pitch walk, Flowers basically glared at the dugout and was like y'all gotta come get him. So Snit, Hernandez, the trainer went out to check on Teheran, and finally Gohara stood up and started warming up. So Snitker and the trainer had to pretend to evaluate an injury on Teheran's finger to buy more time for Gohara to get somewhat warmed up.... which he probably wasn't fully when he came in. Thus, he gave up 6 earned runs (7 allowed but one was charged to Julio) without even recording three outs.Apparently Julio has a thumb injury, but I don't know.
Word. So that’s what happened to cost me money. He very well may have some injury, but that's not why the Braves reported that. I would say the two most important rules of betting on the Braves, regardless of their record, are:Word. So that’s what happened to cost me money.
I admit I know next to nothing about the Braves. Saw Tehran was pitching and they were even money so I took a ... gamble.I would say the two most important rules of betting on the Braves, regardless of their record, are:
- Don't bet on them to win when playing on the West Coast or playing West Coast teams in Atlanta
- Don't bet them to win when playing the mega fanbase teams in Atlanta: St. Louis, Chicago, Yankees, Boston.
And Lakers I'm sure.G7 is a yankees fan - why am I not surprised.

What's wrong with Auburn? Lol. If someone was looking for a front-runner, Auburn wouldn't be a very good choice.I thought Auburn was bad enough. Braves and Heels for me.
Gotcha. I didn't watch, so thanks for that. I'm with you, I think his arm is just dead, and I don't know what, if anything, can really be done about it. No problem. What's sad is I didn't embellish that story at all. It's how it really went down.Gotcha. I didn't watch, so thanks for that. Although I'm a traditionalist, I really don't mind that MLB has tweaked the ball. Home run numbers aren't actually super high like everyone seems to think, compared to the past couple decades.Side note - Rawlings company bought by group that includes major league baseball. They did it to get more control over the manufacturing process of the baseball.
Kinda reminds me of what happened to Jair Jurrjens. I know his career was derailed because of a knee injury, but his stuff got progressively worse and worse, and he couldn't do anything about it.No problem. What's sad is I didn't embellish that story at all. It's how it really went down.
I feel bad for Julio. He looked dejected and just sad on the mound last night. After giving up the two homers, he wouldn't even throw a pitch anywhere near the strike zone. He also knew he had no gas because he glanced a couple times at the scoreboard radar gun after pitches to see his velo.
