6'10" Walk on

I think he's much closer to 200 than 220. But if anyone can beef him up it's Jonas. He's 6-10, has some skills, is a Miller, is an excellent student, and really wants to be a Tar Heel. So I'm the last one to count him out.

Yeah Dave. Folks are getting a bit ahead of themselves. He is still pretty skinny and will need to add strength. That's why in the other thread I said he is likely a year or two away from helping us on the court. Other than that this one is a solid pick-up all around.

He's already improved vastly. I saw him as a rising sophomore and he was SOOOO slow with no explosiveness...and he was no where near 6'10. Now, he looks like he runs the floor well, has SOME hops, and has a nice stroke. You better have a nice stroke if Wes is your brother!!!

I realize I am not just old but more like ancient school but I still recall the contributions and progress made by the likes of the Wolfs, Warren Martin, Salvadori, Chilcutt, and a few more. Let's give these kids and our coaching staff a chance at similar development.Luke Maye.

Yeah .. Players like Joe Wolf are the ones that could get on the all UNC "lunch bucket" team. Never really were all that flashy but were solid contributors. Tyler Hansbrough would be the captain of the "Lunch Bucket" all time greats. Old "Big Smooth" Sam Perkins was another one that was like that. Would love to see Mr. Miller join that club. Great teams will always have a couple of those players on the roster. jmho

We just had someone compare a walk-on who hasn't played a minute of practice to two of our all time greats.

It gets weird during the off season around here.

Arch, I went back and re-watched the vid, got to disagree, I can see easily 220-225, more filled out than lets say Brice was as a frosh, not sure Brice was even 200 as a frosh. If this kid in a year went from 205 to 225 at the same height, then this kid is adding weight easier than many thin big men we have had. Considering he is Wes's brother have to know how important his adding bulk was stressed to him by his big bro, clearly shooting the ball was as well.

What I see, granted conclusions from clips can not be considered absolute but ore a glimpse of what may be there, but I see a kid that seems well schooled on skill but maybe not the most athletic. But those kind of kids can not only play well in college ball but play surprisingly well at times, see Luke Maye as a recent example.

Big man that can hit the mid range, Ky hated that we had one of those last season, can even step out and hit treys. Kind of a little bit like (more raw at this point) the kid that Ky had that transferred to the Zags, Scheiser or how ever he spelled it. I am thinking that Walker had a late growth spurt and took him a while to acclimate to that, lot of kids do struggle figuring out how to play after a strong growth spurt.

gary what is his actual size right now?
Well, I'm just going by recent pics. If he's 225 that's with rocks in his pocket. The key though is (and he knows this) is that strength is his biggest deficit right now. Big reason I think he's a year or two away from contibuting. Hopefully Jonas can do work.

Great iexample of a "growing boy". As you well know, when kids shoot up it takes a while for the body to catch up. I think we get the benefit of that as he matures and works under Jonas.

Your reading comprehension is somewhat askew .. all I said was I would like to see Miller become that type of player. Nowhere in there was I comparing him to anyone.

Reread what you typed. You want to see this kid that no one had heard of before Friday in a club with Tyler and Perk.

All I'm doing is pointing out a very constant theme on this board of people incorrectly hyping up walk on's.

Everyone hopes for the best, me included. If you noticed after my post was when the stretch to Tyler, Perkins, Wolf, and Chillcut, arose. I'd love to see that, but figure is he somehow mimics a Warren Martin we should be overjoyed. Good kid, good practice player, good in class and locker room. Hope we get more, but that will be a surprise

Just put the hype where it should be is all I'm saying...

We have a Manley, Huff, Walk on, Platek threads on this front page....but not 1 on Jalek.

I've hyped the hell out of Jalek because I've seen him play half a dozen times and know that he's a top 10 talent from this class. Why aren't we hyping him as much?

No hyping needed. Everyone is pretty sure of what he is bring in to the team. It's the others that are a unknown.

The young man WANTS to be a Tar Heel and he's willing to walk on to do it . .

Roy told him he would have a place for him in Chapel Hill if he ever wanted to come . .

No one is claiming him to be an immediate impact player, if, he thinks he can make a better progression here rather than Dartmouth, then let him live that dream.
Preach on Billy.

Heaven forbid we say anything positive about any of our kids. Smh
Probably great kids but we as a fan base are very spoiled to getting the best of the best and it's hard to get really excited when our newest bigs are ranked over 100. I know, rankings aren't everything, but when all recruiting sites have them that high well............

Broken record here.

Saying something positive vs. comparing to Psycho T are two COMPLETELY different things.

Look dadika .. once again your making assertions that were never made. I never made a comparison between Miller and Tyler or Perkins or any other UNC player because there is no comparison to be made since he has yet to play a college game. The only thing I said was how Joe Wolf was a solid player with size that was never flashy but always worked hard, put up decent numbers and played within his skill set. That led to referencing the "lunch bucket" type players that were not all that flashy but worked hard and were solid producers .. aka Hansbrough and Big Smooth .. along with many others. The only thing I ever said was that I hoped Miller becomes that TYPE of player as I have little expectation he will ever be a Perkins or Hansbrough type player as far as stats go... but before his time at UNC is done, with his size and intelligence the potential is there for him to be a solid contributor if not more at some point in time.

Now that I have explained to you what my post actually said you no longer have to enlighten the board by telling me what I thought I said. Are you sure your not a menopausal former dook cheerleader or my ex wife ??? Just checking .. :D ..

You're doing what many consider our greatest player ever a serious disservice. That's why I'm getting on you for this. Psycho T was a HELL of a lot more than "lunch bucket type" and a "solid producer"

Not sure that's a disservice to Tyler, he did it all and brought his lunch pale. All world at UNC. One of a kind for sure.

That's exactly what Tyler was. The consummate "lunch bucket" player .. and that's a helluva compliment. An incredible college basketball player that busted his ass to do what needed doing on the floor. Worked hard both on and off the court to be the best he could be for UNC yet he didn't have the physical skill set to make that Jordan,Sheed,Carter, Worthy et.al impact on the next level and that's exactly what I said and what I hope for Walker Miller... no comparisons made to any past players just guarded and hopeful expectations for the newest member to the family.

Ah... If it actually EVER occurs, then it was not/is not hype!

Any kid with that size that can shoot it reasonably well from 3 may find time, especially next year when the Center position is basically up for grabs. Roy has 4 big men now that are freshmen and not labeled as elite. Be interesting to see how he and they develop.
