Arkansas vs UNC 3rd place game thread—-Friday 24 November 2023…

I would play Bacot/Davis/Ingram the whole 2nd half if they don't get tired. Probably they'll need a 2-4 minute break, but then subs should be strictly Trimble and Washington. Wojcik, High, and Okonkwo haven't really earned minutes.

Is UNC going to be a Bubble team every year with Davis as the coach…Bacot looks like he doesn’t even want to be there…Should have left IMO…
I was just thinking... "I think I'll be glad when Bacot is gone." He seems to be phoning-it-in. He should be DOMINATING with his experience.

Listen, without Manek. We wouldn't have made the ncaa any year with Hubert. You guys really underestimate how good Manek was.
His shooting/spacing was extremely valuable, but Ingram has been at least as good an overall player so far. Not sure he can keep this up but Ingram's been awesome. It's Withers/Wojcik, rebounding, and the defensive backcourt that our killing us in this tournament.

Manek had the just break it open you can't stop it factor. He was so tall with such a quick release that if he was on you couldn't stop it. Harrison has been decent, but he can't just break it open the way Manek could.

Our depth was a bit overstated. Wojcik might just be Leaky on offense, lol. Leaky could’ve probably averaged 15 in the Ivy League.

Cormac Ryan is really important to this team. But RJ and Bacot have to be really good for this team.

Man feels like every whistle goes against us. And I’m sorry but bacot is so soft. Yea he can put up big numbers against smaller people but when he goes up against people his size who are physical

Ingram is averaging 15 points a game, shooting over 50% from three, 9 rebounds per 40 minutes, and 1.5 assists per turnover with sound defense. He's been great; let's not let that get lost in the other disappointment.

Pretty sure Washington gave us more on offense in the first half than Bacot.
Yeah, but I'm not only relying on play from this game to determine playing time. And Washington can't rebound anything like Bacot nor defend as well.

If I NEVER see RJ Davis take another one-footed step back three, it will be too soon. Definitely has a little Caleb hangover.

And for all the conversation about who starts and whether it matters or not, here is my unsolicited opinion (for what little it's worth). Even with EC in the game, off the bench, the players on the floor with him don't know enough yet to run the floor. They haven't been rewarded by doing so with other players, so by the time EC arrives on the court, they are already used to meandering to their spots like they've done previously. EC can run at a different speed if our team will run to their spots, he will get the ball to them.

Bacot is what he is. His rebounds are not to be understated but they do normally come a lot in stat padding fashion. Sometimes he misses 2 or 3 shots and gets his own rebound before making it. Most his points are generally off of misses he puts back. That is very good, but it doesn't work against similar sized opponents with athleticism. If we actually had very good shooters, bacots numbers would plummet drastically due to the lack of put backs.

He's also a tremendous defensive rebounder, and on offense he's a good post up player and decent roll man. He does all this while being a solid (not amazing, but solid) defender. He's probably going to be our best player this year.

He has flaws; it's not like he's at a THans or Edey level. But he's still very good, even if he's been a bit below his typical level in this tournament.

RJ is ballin', his scoring threat opens the floor. Need to show that they can controll a lead now.

Man, this team with some of the miscues. Davis is never going to block Mark's jumpshot. Why pick up your third foul on that?

For most of us who have followed Carolina for many many years, isn't it odd how many obscure players have career games against us? Dixon yesterday and Mark today....

Amazing

Mark is hitting very difficult shots, but continuing to close out too aggressively has to stop.

Refs are ruining the College game…No flow what so ever they call a foul every other possession on each team…It’s unwatchable…

Back to back to back iso forced drives/shots by Ingram, Bacot, and Davis. This is how you blow a lead....

If you're referring to the Davis foul, it was a super low bball IQ play. He's 5'11, never going to block a 6'4 guy's jumper. To get in his face like that is just asing for a flop.

You can tell our defensive IQ is not there yet by the fact our average foul is probably 20 feet from the basket in this game.

Nah talking about the entire game on both sides…
