Dammmmn . . . some of those folks got some serious sentences.

Prison time, fines and a boatload of community service penalties laid down on their arses . .

The judge promised he was going to be tough if they were convicted . . but, then he backed off the maximum 20 years for racketeering.

I heard the top lady got 20 but to serve 7 with 13 being suspended.

Seemed absurdly harsh to me, but I have not followed very closely- just a glance every now and then.

Yea unless they monetarily profited from the fraud, and they may very well have, it seems excessive

Even if they did profit, it's nothing compared to the fraud of
others who have gotten off much lighter.

They cheated in order to qualify for bonuses. A few thousand dollars, maybe. To put it in perspective:

On January 9, 2009, the SEC charged Joseph S. Forte from Broomall, Pennsylvania with masterminding a $50 million Ponzi scheme. He swindled over 80 investors, mostly close friends from 1995 to 2009. The SEC investigator called Forte a "complete fraud". Records show Forte used, for personal purposes, over $28 million. He was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment.

So.....their excuse is everybody does it and it wasn't THAT much. O.K.!?! Great lesson to be teaching our kids and grandkids.

No, the point is that murderers -- you know, people who kill other people dead -- and other violent criminals often get fewer years in jail than some of these teachers got. Seems like they got a bit of a raw deal.

But hey, that's our justice system for ya
