Brooks to visit this weekend

Rumor has it that he's signing Wednesday. Fully expect it to be UNC.

Let me see now, just coming off his visit to us and 3 days later will announce where he is going...Yeah, I would say it looks good for us! Should we welcome him now or let the little bit of drama play out before we do? ;)

Too much assumin goin on 'round here.... lets not get carried away please
Yep. Interestingly I was told today by a UGA booster buddy that their staff still thinks Brooks is in play for them despite the trip here --- he's assuming because they think our offer may still have strings on it (strings tied to Vegas I presume).
Caveat: I HAVE NO IDEA IF THERE'S ANY TRUTH TO THEIR NOTIONS --- just relaying what I was told.

As you said, keyser, it probably ain't safe to be assuming anything right about now.

Nothing against Brooks, he looks like a great player BUT Carolina needs & more importantly Roy needs PJ.
We need that top 10 recruit to get the monkey off our back. If Roy has any indication that he still has shot at PJ there's no way he can accept a verbal from Brooks.

Can't see how taking Brooks would rule out PJ so long as Roy could make the scholly's work.
I'd still like Knox but that seems to be over.

Totally agree but it seems like its gonna be Brooks. Idk if it totally takes PJ off the table but I got a feeling this means something for how they feel about their chances at PJ. So Im hoping for Knox, but... well lets just say I have to see it to believe it.

I thought Auburn and Ms. State were the competition?

I think that guy you say we need may already be on our current roster.

Yeah, one would think... but it is true that UGA was on him first, and they still think that he might go there to circumvent the momma vs daddy fight (AU vs MSU), IF UNC doesn't take his commitment. They could just be pissin' in the wind now, but it's hard to know WTF is going on since Garrison's family is on radio silence. I guess we'll know soon enough...

My point was that UNC & Roy needs a top 10 type of recruit pick Carolina over Dook or Kensucky.
We've recruited kids like Bam, Giles , Randle really hard only to make their top 3 but ultimately fall short.

Completely agree. I like four year role players as much as the next guy, but we need to show we can beat out Kentucky and dook for top guys. We need to rebuild our brand, which has taken a significant hit since 2012.

My point was that Bradley may be that guy that can help repair our image of not producing OAD guys

gary, I assume he was still on his visit to us yesterday so hard for me to see him talking this over with the Ga staff. Would appear to me that Ga is wanting to believe that the Brooks offer is tied to PJ, I don't believe it is. I do not believe Brooks made the trip without already having his mind made up where he was going to play, if he had a bad visit then sure that could change but not betting his visit was anything but solid. Georgia staff is guessing if they are even a dawg in this fight.

The ONLY argument that Ga could make is that if they take Brooks then they don't see a scholly for PJ and UNC wants PJ more. Problem with that is Justin or Joel's scholly will come available, maybe even both but little chance neither of them open up.

Yeah, I was taken aback by that was well, but one of their Asst Coaches thinks they still have a chance. I do know their hopes were buoyed when we turned Brooks away the first time and the family dispute got pissy. In other words, UGA was holding themselves out as the "safe" choice, but personally I think they may now just be speculating (translation: hoping) concerning our situation... and as you said, if Roy wants to make room for both PJ and Brooks, he can.

Brooks's dream school is UNC, and that also takes out the momma vs daddy battle, so if Roy wants him I think we snag him

If you guys can't read the writing on the wall then I'm sorry!!..brooks will be a heel..pj will not..Knox will be our best shot only if JJ performs like we expect him to..this is being repeated over and over expecting different results!!..this is the reality...this is the new UNC!!..time to accept it..

Damn it's bad when you have to pull for your players to only stay only one year.
Maybe not OAD but I will be pulling like crazy for Jackson to have a great junior year and go top 20 in next year's draft. Berry and Bradley might not be four players either.

100% John.
I also wouldn't be upset if I woke up on the first Tuesday of April to the news JB was declaring (having achieved all his goals at UNC)

I'll bet you $5 at least 1 of them is a 4 star by the end of the season. I'll even make 3 individual bets if you'd like.

I hope so. I was just making a joke he mentioned Ric Flair so I thought it was a perfect chance. I will root like hell for them when they get here no matter what.

So who were the ones saying we wouldn't be taking 3 of Huffman, Manley, and Brooks?

Don't delude yourself people. If Brooks commits to UNC, PJ and Vanderbilt are not. And I'd put $10 on that.

Knox's recruitment is completely moot until April when JJ decides to leave or not. And even then, it's an uphill battle. Anyone banking on him is wasting their time.

Brooks looked decent in his video. I wonder somewhat about the mentality of such a decision. I assume all these guys committing have a ton of confidence for they are coming in behind maye and bradley with all 3 of them fighting for time with the likes of them both already and potential overrecruiting down the line also.

It seems very likely this could be a scenario where the loser of playing time after a couple of years ends up transferring out.

It is an odd recruiting year for sure.

Well here is one, thou as I said I was not far from being square on the fence, I tilted at the time to taking 2 and waiting on PJ. I am now shaded toward taking Brooks and PJ for one reason, an important reason for me, that being I think we will be very fortunate to have Tony past this coming season and I don't think we get him for more than 2. I couldn't risk Tony leaving after this season and potentially leaving us with Huffman, Manley, and Luke as our entire front court, add in Brooks and or PJ and we have what could be a solid front court. And if we get Brooks then we at least have 3 sophs with experience coming back if we lose Tony after 2 (which I expect) and maybe PJ for a soph season. I don't feel great about us getting a top notch 2018 big man, unless leaky grows in to being one, I think add a wing to Black & White and look to 2019.

I don't see it any longer with Vandy, I have never really agreed with the Knox to us feeling but the PJ situation, has so far gone as I have expected it to and you all know where I think PJ ends up. I have not seen any change that convinces me the kid does not come to us. At this point I am not expecting anything to change, it would take both Bamba and maybe even Vanderbilt picking other schools (other than Ky) before PJ does to change my thinking up until PJ makes his decision known, fortunately that is going to happen in the next couple weeks, I am expecting his announce on the last day of the early signing period but could come sooner. With the UNLV visit out of the way, I think PJ now knows where it will be. Just my opinion...

I just checked the 247 predictions. A bunch of guys adding or changing their predictions in recent days.

That's usually a good sign.

I'll be glad if he pulls the trigger for us.

I have no doubt we'll be able to make room for PJ, Vanderbilt or Knox if any of them want to be here.

Three birds in the bush maximizes the chances that we will get at least 1 who can hit the ground running as a freshman. They have a year to get to that point.

Just out of curiosity, is it permissible for the team a player has committed to to work with new recruits before they get here?

I assume working directly with them is against some rule, but how about giving them a list of things to work on? Or how about working with their HS coach to encourage progress on the skills or fitness we will want to see when they get here?
