Brooks to visit this weekend

Just out of curiosity, is it permissible for the team a player has committed to to work with new recruits before they get here?

I assume working directly with them is against some rule, but how about giving them a list of things to work on? Or how about working with their HS coach to encourage progress on the skills or fitness we will want to see when they get here?

So most don't work with them directly (pretty sure the NCAA has things in place to stop that) but you absolutely get a list of things to do. Coaches will tell kids what they want to see improvement on when they arrive on campus that summer. Also, if weight is an issue, they will give kids a goal weight.

typical list:

-add quickness
-learn to shoot better
-learn the art of rebounding
-move up to a 5* ranking
-learn to play defense

just your run of the mill stuff.

AS soon as a kid signs the staff is able to publicly discuss him and have non-restricted communication with him. So yes the staff can give him a list of things they want him to work on, I think he may need to be enrolled before our strength and conditioning coaches can work with him.

I think they usually enroll early if they really need more strength and conditioning too.

Brooks announce day, just wanted to bump this one back up top.

Was strange that he visited us this past weekend but either way this one I am fine with. Now there is no need to create a scholly for PJ or hope that either Joel or Justin leave after this season to open one up.

So when pj announces for the sister molestors where will that leave us? Are we done for this class?

We're still somewhat in it for Vandy and Knox. Tilmon is also not signing with Illinois so he may open it back up but it's likely that's for St. Louis.

Not looking good for us to pickup anyone else in 2017.

This was like what? A fourth choice at best to fill a desperate need? Ranked in the 100's? And we lose him to miss freaking state??!!

Dang guys our big man recruiting is in seriously deep doo doo.

Who was the last 5 star big man we signed?

Feel free to talk me off the ledge. I'm not looking for a fight but this is definitely a pattern that seems pretty bad.

Haha it was Tony Bradley. Come on dude. You should be nowhere near any ledges.

Watch 5 minutes of Tony Bradley and you will step far away from that ledge.

I am not really surprised. I mean, why come to a logjam position at UNC where he will be constantly recruited over instead of going to a program he could be a day 1 starter on or at least down the road easily.

True, but keep in mind he wasn't a 5-star when he committed.

Nice for us that he improved after committing, but probably shouldn't count to answer that question.

IIRC the most recent bigs who were 5-star when they signed were:

Isaiah
McAdoo
Henson

Isaiah committed in 2011. So it's been a while.

Perhaps even more alarming is that Tony and Luke are our only bigs since 2011. Which means that except for Tony, we haven't even signed a 4* big since 2011.

This one just doesn't bother me. I rather save it for 2018.
We may not have much choice unless Stokes suddenly shows more interest. Or unless we luck into a grad or decommit.

That said, I'd feel more secure about next year if we added another big. I thought Brooks would be a good addition. I think Stokes could be, too.

Two years from now I might regret using that scholarship, but at the present time I'm more worried about a drop-off next year.
