Can Someone Enlighten Me on the Voter Suppression in NC . .

I wouldn't want anyone to face longer wait lines to vote . . would you . . ?

I thought THI code for Gimme a break was the accepted GMAFB so frequently seen over on the Mell of a Hess board.

No...but how is waiting racist? Like someone alluded to earlier, frustration knows no skin tone when it's equally shared. I just don't get how longer lines equal suppression of minority votes as long as whites are waiting too.

I know a lot of older college educated folks . . quite a few are 'Dims' . . . I was just unaware they are referred to as the weaker minded.

What happened to your funny bone? It was a joke because the inference was Dem votes were being suppressed due to frustraion.

Naaaaaah...the weaker minded give in to their frustrations, give up and go home. You know...the Dims.

Sheeeesh.

I actually think simple-minded people would probably stick it out. Yeah, I know it was a joke, haha.

They specifically targeted voting groups that typically don't support them and passed legislation making it more difficult for those members of the electorate to vote (another aspect of this legislation was to remove polling stations from college campuses). So no, it doesn't affect everyone equally, nor was it intended to. Aside from defending "your team" and the question of impact on minorities, can I get a show of hands of who actually thinks that's a good thing?

If I can ask another couple question . . how many NC counties had their early polling sites reduced . . ?

Which ones and by how many . . ?

What were the political voting records of those counties in the '08 and '12 POTUS elections . . ?

Again, thanks in advance for your help here . .

I understand what you're saying but once again...how does making EVERYONE wait in line suppress minorities? Are you saying the longer waits were only in predominantly black/minority districts?

I know many people that have

So you admit that it was more than one voting group and wasn't a race thing?

So no, it doesn't affect everyone equally
Please tell me how it doesn't affect everyone equally. I think that minorities are smart enough to change their voting patterns.

I don't really care as long as everyone has a chance to vote.

Maybe that's because of the crap that went on before. The state was in debt to the Feds up to our eyeballs until some fiscal responsibility was forced upon us.

Then I think McCrory should have held back on his stupid HB2 thing because that has cost him millions in revenue and goodness knows how much from people not willing to move there now and I'm sure a few might just leave! Dumb move on his part.

Blame Charlotte for HB2. Without their stupid city council none of this would have ever happened.

The courts disagree.

Either way, I'm for early voting and against their ploy.

I don't get early voting. What purpose does it serve? If there is early voting, then why doesn't everyone just do it early and we don't need to have "election day"?

Also, skimming through this thread (haven't read every poast), no one has explained how suppressing early voting is a ploy to stop minorities from voting. Can someone explain why minorities are the only ones effected by the shenanigans to kill early voting.

Thanks.

I'm sure there is always a frustration of some sort for folks. Waiting in line for hours to vote or having to travel further to do so shouldn't be one of them IMO.

Well if that's the case, why don't we mail ballots to homes so people never have to put any effort whatsoever into it?

After muddling through the minutia I think they are saying minorities don't like to wait in line.

Whoda thunk it?o_O

Just to be clear, my hand is down. But that doesn't mean I support partisan ploys to keep people from voting. But you can mark me down as someone that thinks early voting is retarded. There is "election day" for a reason. The polls are open on that day for like 15 hours. If you can't make it to the polls that day or get an absentee ballot ahead of time, then you're not trying hard enough.

Voting is done on the Tuesday following the first Monday of November. That's it. That's how it should be.

Just as this is a ploy by the GOP to keep certain folks from voting, the Dems love this shit because they get to call someone racist. Don't be fooled.

I specifically excluded the race aspect from my question. Do I personally think that they did this without racial consideration? Hell no. But even if you take that out, what they did was to obtain polling data (which by the way included voting practices broken down by race) and then institute policies that disproportionately affected voters who, based on that data, were more likely to vote for the other party. Early voting and same-day registration were being used more by Democrats, so they reduced early voting and eliminated same-day registration. Young voters were leaning left, so they tried to get rid of polling stations on college campuses and eliminate the ability to pre-register.

All of these are things that help allow anyone to more conveniently participate in the electoral process, but which Democrats were, for whatever reasons, statistically more likely to make use of.

Do you support passing policies aimed at making voting more difficult for the other party's voters? It's a simple question.

So far I'm seeing a lot of tangents and misdirection but no hands going up.
