Coronavirus

Both sides made this worse than it had to be. Trump acting like it wasn't a big deal was dumb and dems continuously questioning the vaccine development last year was dumb. Politicians always find a way to make something political. That's what they are best at. If both sides would have treated this as a medical situation, then we would already be past all of this.
I don't think you can bosides the pandemic response.

Hospitalizations and Deaths should be the metrics of note. Not positive tests.

Selfishly, I love this.

Thinking more clearly, hate it for small businesses. My gym back in March mandated that if you’re vaccinated (and I had to show my card) you could go maskless, if not, mask it up. And they enforced.

I think this is the compromise for people who want something stronger than just no mask.

Still think now that the vaccine is out there you have to let people make their own choice.
What he's doing is basically the exact opposite of everything a conservative/libertarian/independent voter believes in.

That was really more directed at you, not him.
I mean...sure? I'm also pro-choice, want much stricter gun regulations, and don't believe God should have anything to do with anything in government.

I'm pretty moderate man. Fiscally (which I care most about) is where I'm very conservative which is why I mostly have voted Republican. I also absolutely and utterly hate the far left...compared to just really hating the far right.

I've already stated my mask policy, which does fit very much in line with a libertarian view. Do I also just naturally feel safer walking into a room with fully vaccinated people than a room full of anti-vaxers? I do. Can't help that, even though I know I'm still likely very safe.

Probably hospitalized because of the nasty, 100% proven, long term side effects from this pointless vaccine. Florida gonna Florida.

How can people consider getting actual Covid safer than getting a vaccine when you look at the fact that 97-99% (depending on which study you read) of hospitalizations are unvaccinated and they think 100% of deaths are unvaccinated.

The "I got Covid and I was fine" is stupid. It's like playing Russian roulette. "I won't get Covid" is stupid. Most people who are anti-vax aren't the types who are afraid to leave their house.

But hey, it's America, you're free to be an idiot...but family members like @heelmanwilm have to pick up the pieces for your idiocy.

Well, I just gave you one example. Your inability to see how ****ed up both sides are in basically every situation, is only rivaled by Anon supporters.
1st, that example is so weak. As soon as FDA convinced everyone that they were independent, the Dems jumped all over the vaccine.

2nd, how many other examples, is the above the best you have?

I can give you other examples, but what's the point? Any political issue that has ever been discussed on this board you have immediately blamed people on the other side. Hell, I bet you blame the republicans for making the cigar that Clinton used. It's impossible for you to be rational.

My conversation with my doctors about the vaccine are interesting. Especially compared to what you see on the news and the experts that post here. I've had three specialist talk to me about it and not a single one has told me it's very important to get it. They've told me that it should be safe for me, but none of them have pushed the vaccine on me. Very different than the politicians and media.

My doctor and our pediatrician have both greatly stressed the importance of it whenever I've brought it up to them.

Maybe it's a regional thing?

doc and our pediatrician also recommended and we’re perfectly healthy...then after getting the variant, she reminded me of that choice.

hell, vatech is requiring all students to provide their covid vax shot record in order to attend classes.

I'm on board with a lot of this. We'd probably differ on a few things economically but we're not miles apart.

For myself, my personal stance on the far left and far right is that I hate them equally for different reasons. The far right for thinly veiled autocratic desires mixed in with dogmatic religion/theocratic nonsense. Combine that with a GOP Party more willing to embrace that kind of thinking and militant/pro Confederate tendencies it's a recipe for disaster.

The far left is another story because it's composed largely of people who are well educated and should know better. But education doesn't equate to common sense or humility. The way they carry themselves is ironically the flip side of the same coin as a hard right religious person: unbending, arrogant, with the notion of innate superiority and you're all horrible people if you don't believe what I do. And the most hilarious part is that they claim this in the name of tolerance and acceptance and instead just piss off moderate liberals, independents, conservatives alike.

State of North Carolina is trying to get more people to take the vaccine by offering them $100. Pretty much everyone that's going to take it has taken it by this point, so it's bribery time.

I’m quite conflicted on this.

I really want people to get vaccinated but I also HATE the idea of giving people money for shit like this.

just found out from my mom that one of my sisters down in Aiken SC is in bad shape and was hospitalized today with covid. She’s an anti-masker conspiracy theorist and didn’t get vaccinated. She’s a very successful business owner down there and insisted on keeping her business open without any masking requirements for employees or customers. She is also very active in a mega church down there that also didn’t go along with any of the masking mandates or social distancing. So who knows where she got exposed to it. I was just talking yesterday to another one of my sisters who was very angry with her because She insists on regularly seeing my parents who are in their mid-80s And was over at their house Sunday and complaining of a scratchy throat. Wtf!. Sure enough They have now evidently been exposed to it through her. they tested positive but they are vaccinated so hopefully they’ll be OK. No symptoms as of yet. Smfh.
Wow. Thats terrible. I hope everything comes out ok with your family!

My sis may have to be intubated if she doesn’t start responding to meds. No one can visit her. She’s at augusta university med center which is an excellent hospital evidently from what I read. She’s one of 50 covid patients. The nurse told us on July 6 they were down to 3 covid patients. 10 came in over the weekend alone. On the brighter side my elderly parents still show no symptoms. Me and my other sis had to close up our sick sisters shop and send her employees home. They had all been exposed and not one had thought to get tested and here they were showing up to work as if nothing had happened ready to infect each other and whatever poor slob showed up to buy furniture I guess. I just don’t know about people sometime. We told them to come back with vax cards or negative tests.

My sick sisters church is having a big prayer vigil for her tonight and my mom insists on going. Which means I have to go. Oy veh.

Glad your parents are okay.

I hope your sister recovers. Being intubated doesn't sound good.

Good luck to you and fam.
NC hospitals are still really strict too about visitation limits due to covid/delta.
Everybody needs to figure out facetime/duo/zoom on their phone b4 they get sick.

There are a ton of the things the left has f'd up, is currently f'ing up and will f up if they get beyond filibuster. There are also a ton of things you can bosides. Pandemic ain't one of them if you start contrasting the trump/gop/maga response and results.

Hoping all ends well for you guys. Another example of how divided people are. I have found out when it hits home, how people will change from a dogmatic view.
Is this the delta varient she has?

You should do better trying to make points or should I say trying to understand the points other people are making. It had nothing to do with them saying they were taking it or you should/shouldn't take it. It was about them not ramming it down my throat. They acted completely different than the people you see on the news who say the world is ending in two hours unless you get vaccinated. Or all of the board certified doctors on OOTB.

The virus divided our country more than it already was…pretty impressive.

Now you’re an ‘anti-vaxxer’ if you have chosen at this point to not get it. No one bothers asking your reasons- maybe you’re young and in pristine health, maybe you already had covid, maybe you spoke to your doctor or several and they gave you their medical advice based on your unique situation. Maybe you just are waiting until more studies are done on the vaccines. Maybe you are just a nut and are refusing for whatever other reason. Who knows. Whatever the reason, the choice you made was your own. It’s your right to make whatever decision you like. You assess the risk of your own body and live with the consequences. Refusing one vaccine, yeah it doesn’t make you an “anti-vaxxer.”

Everyone wants to blame everyone else. Your side is wrong, no your side is wrong, no your killing granny, no you’re killing granny.

Just research the data yourselves and make whatever choice you want. Whether it’s vaccine, masks, the combo, social distancing, whatever. Do what YOU think is best for you. But we have GOT TO STOP the moral grandstanding and absurd virtue signaling that is going on if someone else doesn’t do exactly what you think is right. This is a free country, supposedly, you have a right to be free, a right to your own choices. Govt, big corporations and public companies, colleges etc. mandating- that ain’t liberty fellas. We’ve got to assess our own risks in life, not have our lives dictated for us by them. Give us the info, make your own decision.
