Jawad Williams Says Going Outside The Family For Roy's Replacement is a No Go

Hubert is not going to lead UNC to probation. After what UNC when through over the last several years this is critical.

Ollie has some of the experiences that Hubert has but not all. Hubert has many more positive traits that Ollie does not have. On the other hand, if Ollie would not have violated NCAA rules he may still be at UConn.

If Hubert gets the job and leads UNC to a title within 4 years and keeps the school out of trouble most would accept it.

I trust Roy and right now he wants Hubert.

No one's cares about the probation angle other than you because it's not relevant to the discussion. Even without that the sanctions, most UConn fans were unhappy with him once Calhoun's leftovers ran dry. So again, putting their sanctions aside, you'd be happy with Ollie's level of success at UNC?

You butted into a conversation that had nothing to do with you. Move on man. Let the guy fight his own battles. He is a big boy.

Chuck Person's idiocy was not a recruiting violation and Pearl had nothing to do with it. Nice try at deflection, but bottom line is you once again stuck your nose into a subject you know nothing about. Everything I posted was dead-on fact, so take your juvenile "Pack Pride" crap and shove it.
Lol at guessing at the knowledge of people you know nothing about. I'm the one deflecting? Your whole post is a deflection of me saying Auburn has a history of being dirty. Which they do. Just like Alabama, and just like every college sports program. It's just part of the deal. Some are just less dirty (or get caught less) than others.

Acting like a condescending asshole all the time doesn't make you right or smarter than anyone. It just makes you pathetic.

Yep, I do and I also know how to put someone on ignore and let folks talk to themselves...I don't take these chatboards seriously. Really don't have time for the bugs on the windshield. That's why I ignore them. :)

I can tell by all the time you spend on here responding to everyone.

You want a "private" conversation then take it to a DM. This is a public forum and anyone can respond to anything they want to. And I did so because your argument was ridiculously asinine. Yet to the surprise of no one, you chose to continue avoiding answering any of the questions or refuting the arguments presented to you because you had no leg to stand on to begin with. Then again, I'm not sure why I expected any different so I suppose it's my fault for engaging in the first place.

No worries, I accept your concession. Moving on.

The vast majority of the posters on this board are cool. I ignore 6 posters. The "ignore" feature is the best feature on the board.

I really don't go back and forth with a lot of posters on the board and most of my comments are not confrontational. Most of the time when it gets to that point, I bow out and say "Lets agree to disagree". I even let some of them have the last word to make them feel good with their parting insults. I will always love my children...;)

Just like most posters on the board, there will be some heated discussions every now and then which is normal. The key thing is not to take the comments seriously because it is only a chat board.

Go Heels!

While Hubert wouldn't be my #1 choice, learning from the best for as long as he has, can't be ignored. That is gaining experience. He absorbing everything, from JV, to practices, side by side on the sidlines with the best in the business.

Stack was an assistant in the NBA, coached the G league, and landed the Vandy job. Obviously not the same as getting the UNC job.

Stack and Wes would he my choices if they succeed, and especially if Wes lands a bigger gig soon and succeeds

All in all, UNC athletics overall is pretty darn successful under Bubba, so if him and Roy think Hubert is the best for the job, I will trust them and give it a chance.

The only asshole in this conversation is you. You stuck your nose into something you know less than zero about and got it smacked with facts. Stay in your lane.

Y'know, the next time you post anything of value on here will be the first time. So hey, you've got that to look forward to... well, maybe.

Lol that's more than anyone can say for you and your lameass write ups. How many blown assists do we have today from the giant dickhead? 1? 13? 6? Come on, we're all on the edge of our seats. :D

Nice try, but there's no recovering from that little tantrum.

Sure, whatever helps ya sleep at night bud.

I love Gary's analyses. He loves college basketball, UNC and Auburn. I also like Bruce Pearl. I also had the great honor to watch Chuck Person in person ( I'm not clever enough to come up with that pun) at the old Boston Garden as he torched the Celtics in game 2 of the Pacers playoffs win against the Celtics. As I recall, Pearl's transgressions were minor. Stuff like inviting a high school junior recruit to a cookout. I tend to cheer for Auburn. Their fans are
extremely nice and their female fans are almost always beautiful

A straw man (or strawman) is a form of argument and an informal fallacy based on giving the impression of refuting an opponent's argument, while actually refuting an argument that was not presented by that opponent. One who engages in this fallacy is said to be "attacking a straw man". I looked it up as a wise man once suggested. After much consideration, I still stand by my point that I have never heard a single person say hire someone just because they are Family, but I have lots on ignore so maybe I missed it. I also don't understand the apparent anger/disrespect some feel like they have to spout! Once again a fun thread is derailed by supposedly grown men/women who simply never learned the simple idea that peeps can disagree without being disagreeable. I won't be checking this thread again so don't waste the angst!

Back to bball:

Few and Wright would be excellent non-Family choices, but I just don't see them leaving their current places to follow 2 legends and to deal with a rabid fan base who expect the culture to remain the same.

Stack, Wes, and Hubs seem to be the best of both worlds and I hope one or more of them grow into coaches who can handle UNC!

Sheed is Sheed and I really hope he is on the bench one day!

I would love Tony Bennett because I could believe he is clean and I know he is smart enough to know he would have to change his plodding O to get the recruits he could pull at UNC. I would hope he keeps the D! I thoroughly enjoyed the 4 Corners because the lack of O was balanced by the despair of the opponent as they realized winning was virtually impossible, but they had to suffer for a long time, lol! That was some beautiful bball!

I doubt seriously Few or Wright would leave their current gigs when Roy decides to step down.

I’d say no to Bennett, don’t like his brand of basketball. BTW, didn’t like the Four Corners either. Never did.

I suspect that both Duke and UNC have alerted the genius Brad Stevens that he can name his price upon the retirement of the current coach

Interesting comments from Roy in the interview on the Dan Patrick Show a few days ago.

Roy said in his interview with Dan Patrick a few days ago that when he and Hubert walked out of Zion's house they thought it was a done deal to UNC.

Roy thought it was important enough to bring along Hubert in the last pitch to try to sign the most heralded high school prospect in years.

Something changed after Roy walked out of that house, but for a few days, Roy thought Zion was headed to UNC.

You have to close the deal. Get the signature while you are still in the house. A good feeling is for losers. You have to camp Hubert at the motel 8 down the street until signing day

You think this is isolated to Zion's recruitment? I've heard first hand from coaching staffs going "he's ours" then the kid goes somewhere else the next day. I've also heard first hand a staff going "nah, not ours" then the kid commits the next day.

Some families are really good at shielding their hands and some are just too damn nice to make you feel like he's going anywhere but your program. It happens literally every year to almost every coach.

Kid chose Duke, move on. Not the first kid that will choose between us and them and won't be the last.

I firmly believe what you wrote. Many think there must be foul play just because a kid elects to go elsewhere. I’m not saying that it doesn’t happen because I know for a fact at all levels there is dirt. I will admit even my shades with a tint of blue get in the way of my thinking some times.

Wasn't Rick Majerus one of the guys Coach Smith was endorsing before Doherty was hired? I may be off but it seem like Coach Smith didn't think Doherty was a good fit at the time and thought that hiring a UNC guy just to hire a UNC guy was not the way to go. I still wonder what type of coach Phil Ford would have been had the off court issues not kept him from real consideration.
