I tend to agree with @mikeirbyusa about everyone already having their own opinions. Very little will change views in this thread.
I will say this and then try to back out politely. Why would man write a book over several thousand years simply for world domination? From my standpoint, I trace out the origins of each book of the bible for myself. People argue that man wrote these things and they are simply opinions. But why? If one is foolish enough to believe in a diety that came to save them, why fight against that. Its all about choice. I choose to believe because of the proof I have witnessed myself. I know what my personal experiences have shown me. I also listen to others who share theirs. I study to see how that bbn lines up with my Bible. People have taken the bible to far, as is described by some in this thread. The same example given that people were illiterate is perfect proof that corrupt leaders abused their positions. That's a failure of man, and not of God. God has a plan for humanity that started back in the dateless past. I read the account of creation. I know there is much more to the story than what we are given. I tend to lean on a pre adamite belief than just simply what we are given. (You should look that up. It's a very interesting concept)
If God created man in that fashion, then man clearly failed, and death was introduced to the species. There arose a need for salvation. As I stated before, man himself has brought the majority of destruction and pain on himself, not God. Man has a wonderful knack of learning to sinful and rebellious nature. Look at how many anarchists we have residing on this board. I had just as soon believe in Christ as I would any politician or political party. The Bible is a guide line. It tells a story of God reaching back to man thru thousands of years to bring them back to him. It shows that he wants people to have a choice. Man want to control.
There are enough teachings in the bible to show how to live morally. I can also understand why some would buck against ancient text. Means progression has been leading this way. But that was not lost in scripture. It foretells of a great falling away. It foretells of an increase in knowledge. It foretells of wars and rumors of wars. The authors of those books saw things they couldn't explain in the words of their times.
I've heard how people call Christian's foolish for their pie in the sky beliefs They scripture states that it's by the foolishness of preaching that men are saved. Everything from the old text to the new points to Christ. He is the gate to restore man. Man will fail you. Again, God has a plan for everyone to come to him, just not by a way created in our own minds

I’m keeping my beliefs to myself but just wanted to say I’ve really enjoyed reading everybody’s comments. And I mean everybody. Kudos for keeping it civil as well.
Trying to dominate other groups is one of the best understood aspects of human psychology. It’s like a universal constant of human behavior. Not even the Bible claims that the gospels weren’t written by human beings. That’s why they’re named after the person who wrote them...
Religion did not begin at Christianity. It started long before the Bible was ever written, and much of the Bible is directly plagiarized from previous religious traditions. It’s not even remotely original. Religion was our first attempt and understanding natural
phenomenon. We prayed for rain because we didn’t understand the water cycle. We prayed for storms to stop because we didn’t know how they worked, and it was probably terrifying for primitive humans. Imagine living in the woods when a massive thunderstorm rolled through. The wrath of god probably looked like a perfectly reasonable explanation before science came along and explained exactly what was happening.
There’s much more to be gained from discourse than simply trying to change other’s views. If nothing else, debating should help you shore up your own views and sharpen your arguments. I know perfectly well that the vast majority of religious people aren’t going to change. But I’m also aware of the fact that there are some very simply arguments that refute biblical metaphysics that many Christians have never even heard before. Simply because they normally discuss their religion with other believers. It’s good to get out of our own bubbles every now and then, whether you’re religious or an atheist.

This is why I chose to contribute to this thread. I also feel that you will see one day that there is much more to it than what you currently believe. Debating on this board is almost futile. We all are entrenched in our own beliefs. That again is part of our choice. I respect your POV. I dont agree, but I respect it.

Right now I'm at the point where I believe this was all created but not necessarily with a plan in mind. I'm not sure there's something that's keeping score or will eventually determine our eternal fate. I tend to believe in coincidences, accidents and that we're not here for a reason. I don't really believe that there is a plan for me and when it's over, it's sort of... over. But I would like to think that good ends up being rewarded somehow.
I'll center my next thought around Christianity. I don't know if the bible is fiction or non-fiction. That's obviously a really important part of that particular faith. But I do think even if it is fiction, Jesus seemed to be a really good dude and trying to live our lives like him isn't the worst idea in the world.
In general though, I believe doubt is good, healthy and extremely necessary (especially in today's society). So it still makes me uncomfortable how little doubt there is, particularly in faith. So when Stephen Hawking says there's no God, I believe that is absolutely possible... but I don't like the absolutism of the statement. I don't think anyone knows definitively and that's the beauty of it.

Biggest obstacle to me is the necessity to believe the bible is the infallible word of god. I’ve read it straight through multiple times. Its full of errors, contradictions, fallacies, and scriptures of dubious origin that were not on original manuscripts. The science of some of its stories alone is enough to render it “fallible”. But heres one thing that bewilders me. If we pop into heaven or hell when we die, as evangelicals teach, then whats with the great white throne judgement after the great tribulation? We’re judged a second time? Jesus told the thief on the cross that he would be in paradise THAT DAY. But revelations is clear that judgment happens after the great tribulation which obviously hasnt happened. Anyone shed any light on that?
Excellent example why religious leaders should stay out of politics. Politics are all about lies, secret deals, extortion, and even at times murder. If u as a religious leader affiliate yourself to a political party or person you instantly become a hypocrite.

All of Jesus's disciples hauled ass when the Romans arrested him and were nowhere to be found until after the resurrection. If none of them were at the crucifixion, I cannot understand where the details OF the crucifixion have even come from.
The Bible indeed teaches that when we die we either go to Heaven or Hell. Then, after the Millennial Kingdom, we all are called before the throne for the Final Judgement whereupon those found to be in sin will be cast into the Lake of Fire.
The White throne judgment is reserved for the sinners. Will be for all from the beginning till then. The Judgement seat of Christ is for the believers. That is for those only recorded in the Lambs book of life.
The thief on the cross went to paradise (see the telling of the rich man and Lazarus the beggar).
John was there with Jesus mother. Peter was there, but lurking in the shadows. Remember the cock crowing three times? There are no other accounts as to the remaining nine. Judas was offing himself at the same time. THere is also scripture prophesying this event as well. As was with all the suffering in his passion

No, they weren't. The "John" mentioned with Mary, in one of the gospels. That is the ONLY reference to any disciple and he wrote no Gospel that I'm familiar with.
Peter was lurking in the shadows? Where is that written? I remember he denied Jesus 3 times, but that was way, way, away from anywhere that Jesus was located at the same time.

Mary Magdalene was there. There is a Gospel of Mary Magdalene, but, we know that a woman's account doesn't hold much favor. I have read her Gospel. I read all of the Gnostic gospels. Thomas is my favorite. But, Mary Magdalene is very good, too.
By the way, if you read the Catholic Bible, keep in mind that it is different from Protestant Bible. The Protestant Bible is missing the books called "The Apocrypha." Those are books that, for whatever reason, the Protestants didn't approve of and took them out.
John the apostle wrote one of the gospels. He was with Mary at Jesus feet when Christ commissioned him to take care of his mother. Peter was there, when he was accused of being one of the 12. He denied it and ran away in shame. Also, I dont need a bishop to tell what I am reading for my self is true or not. Obviously your assertions don't match up with scripture.
Also, I can find you tube videos to prove or disprove anything I would like.
