Juwan throws a punch....

It’s in support of Caleb Love. I think your problem is that you don’t believe in the power of Love. This is why Howard took that swing at the opposing coach. You and Howard should just follow and believe in the power of Love
What’s love got to do with it?

looking for live in all the wrong places.

Love hurts (us)

you can’t make love

Reminds me of Woody Hayes, a little bit.

Closer view. Extra points if you can read lips!

Let's not go too far. I realize it's the thing to do in this day and age to overreact but stuff happens in the heat of competition. Let's not forget that Matt Doherty and Crissy Collins came real close to blows a few years back, and hell, even Dean and that jackass Rixk Barnes got into it back in the day.
Suspension? Of course. Firing? Come on.
This is the 3rd time Howard has gone after an opposing coach in the last calendar year. The previous 2 times his assistants and players were able to hold him back. This time he got a hit in before he could be moved away.

Yep, zero excuse for what he did. He’s a POS. Quite frankly, I think he has racist tendencies as well.

Gard should get 1 or 2 game suspension he was an aggressor after the words and made contact he has fault too. Howard is done til the Big 10 tourney at least, throwing the open hand "mush" is not okay. He also just got some of his key players suspended who came to their coaches back and threw punches. Probably cost them a NCAA bid.
i agree....Howard said his words and attempted to keep walking...the wisky coach grabbed him

Firing is way over the top. A lengthy suspension is certainly warranted. Gard should also get 1-2 games IMO. I hope Howard is able to reflect enough to know he must show some contrition at some point for this to go away.

Here is the best view of the incident. Note that Howard kept saying "don't F$&#king touch me".

Howard should have stopped right there. His mistake was swinging at the assistant coach.

No way he should be fired, but he will get suspended for a few games.

Now, think back to the Virginia Tech game when the VT coach approached Hubert after the game and was quite heated at the beginning. How did Hubert handle it?

Also, what about the comments that Hubert made to Calapari in the handshake line after Kentucky destroyed the Heels.

Bottom line, there are many reasons why a school hires a coach.

Look, i'm not defending Juwan. I think he's a tool and always have, frankly. I just don't like outrage culture forcing knee-jerk reactions. Suspend him for multiple games and see if he's learned his lesson.

Well, just one question for you folks. If Howard were to be charged with assualt , would he be found guilty?

Wrong….he just don’t have Love in his heart for people who touches him
He doesn't have common sense and composure in his brain, either.

He doesn't like to lose, no one does. But, to have a predisposition for that kind of reaction is dangerous and it's a constant risk for UM to take. He has shown this behavior before.

Bob Knight punched players and kept his job for decades.

No telling what K is doing to his players….maybe a torture chamber that makes them say “the brotherhood” over and over

Bob Knight doing it doesn't make it right. Assuming that K is doing it, also doesn't make it right.

Do you think Howard's reaction was acceptable?

Gary, if this was the first time he has lost it then yeah, suspend him 2-3 games. He has had to be restrained 2 other times and this time it was worse considering that he actually threw a blow. IN doing so he allowed his team to get in to a really nasty display and very likely multiple of his players will now be suspended. Best case he should be suspended for the rest of this season and the post season and I would not rule out his being fired for this.

I as well find nothing wrong with what Gard did, calling the TO or in his "touching" Howard in the handshake line. I don't think Gard understood why Howard was so upset (was trying to get Howard to tell him why he was upset) or that Howard understood Gard's reason for calling the TO. BUT, if you (Howard) are going to leave your players in (even if most of them at that point were bench players Gard has his version of our blue steel in) and press those deep bench players then Howard should have nothing to say about Gard calling a TO. Don't press them in a game that is over Juan and that TO would not have been called.

Completely agree with all of that. This stuff I'm seeing from people on social media attempting to put the blame on the Wisconsin coach is absurd.

Agree with all of this except the firing.
I would make Howard aware that there will be no reason to publicly say there is zero tolerance going forward, but in private, that is exactly what I would tell him.
He gone till Next season for me.

Based on my review of comments on my twitter site with over 36K in followers, Howard is getting most of the blame and the media is definitely putting most of the blame on Howard. Here is just on of the media clips.

Personally, I hope Howard gets hit hard, but not lose his job on this incident.

Do you remember the dustups there were during Fab Five days when the payers (Juwan, rose, Weber, etc) would make a point of humiliating other lesser opponents (like Temple) by grabbing their crotches, standing over guys on the floor they dunked on, trash talking non stop?

I remember. And this Juwan seems like that same sort of guy/ energy. Hasn’t matured or gained any bit of class, integrity, sportsmanship, maturity. Can dish out the “showing up an opponent” but can’t take even a little bit of what he regularly does and teaches.

still a punk / thug in my book. Most objective people will see him this way. And I’m guessing plenty inside UM offices feel like they have a problem on their hands - like they made a hiring mistake, maybe.

Now that he is suspended for the remainder of the regular season (only 5 games!) I hope that he has gotten the message that if he wants to be a head coach he will have to act appropriately. I rather doubt it though.

I keep hearing about his roots in the projects/hood/poverty, whatever. And, I realize that those conditions can probably hard-wire a person to be reactionary and have a sort of kill-or-be-killed mentality. And, that can be difficult to shed, if you are able to get away from it at all. It's a hard life that I can only imagine, and be thankful that I didn't have to experience it. He got out of it and has a pretty prosperous life now.

However, it seems like, in Howard's case... he embraces it, or maybe nurtures it. It's a fine line between not being ashamed of your roots, and being PROUD of it. It can even be detrimental when it comes down to behaviors and instincts that don't assimilate too well in cultures and society OUTSIDE of that kind of environment. The coach of Wisconsin wasn't going to pull a knife on him and try to kill him! I don't think I'd want to keep those street instincts alive and well if I managed to come out of it. In a way, it's almost like PTSD. Soldiers who serve extensive tours have difficulty assimilating back into society, sometimes.

This just in from ESPN. Coach K's behavior in the handshake line over the years is going to be investigated with the eye towards suspending him for the rest of his career given the recent situation with Howard.

Wait a moment, apparently that was just a sham website I was viewing. Thank God, Coach K is not in trouble. All is good folks, sorry for the misinformation.

When Gard grabbed his arm that was not a threatening move. I think it was stopping to explain. When Howard grabs a fistful of shirt and twists. Well, I know how I would have interpreted that. Finger in the face of Gard. Demanding respect but not showing it. In fact going out of his way to show disrespect.

I just can't see where Gard is at fault. I guess you could argue that he should have ignored Howard knowing what an idiot he is.

Doubt too many guys from the hard streets are throwing slaps around or they aren't gonna make it on those streets. 😂

Howard was not known as any kind of thug! He was top 10 academically as well as the best player in Illinois coming out of HS. He was never implicated in the Mich scandals and his records are NOT expunged while his teammates records were. He was raised below the poverty line by his grandmother, but she kept him off the streets and focused on academics + athletics. Please do not let convenient storylines obscure the truth. He lost his temper and made a serious mistake. he reflected and apologized + he has been punished. At this point it should be over and he should be given a 2nd chance. If he repeats the behavior he deserves to be fired; if he does not, it should be forgotten!

The Howard as a thug narrative is ridiculous.

He was given a 5 game suspension, which I think is fitting (3 Michigan players suspended as well, not sure how long). Gard got a 10,000 dollar fine and reprimand, which I think should have been a bit more. Not sure if the Whisky assistants (the crotch "suck it" gesturing one or the one who came in to confront and got slapped) got any or the Wisky player throwing punches.

Fiery vs. Thuggish??? Tough, no nonsense, old school Vs. Out of control, over the top, unworthy of the job??? Isn't it interesting how these labels are assigned?!!
Knight, ratty, Martin, Hayes Vs. Howard.....hmmm?

We played and coached against Howard in his Jr. and Sr. years in high school, he was if anything too much finess, very skilled though. He was top 5 in the nation, but so was Glen Robinson who we played often. Big Dog was much more physical, and equally as skilled if not more. The power forward Lampley was the enforcer over the top guy on Howard's team. Howard was a well spoken, talented, high achieving student. Far from a "thug"! The narrative of him as one is telling.

Realize, I didn't call for his firing, I said I would not rule it out. Meaning, while I would not fire him for this ( I would if there is a reoccurrence of him having to be restrained from going after anyone else even if he does not get to throw a blow), if he were fired for this I could not consider it un-justified.
