legalize pot

And what if it did make people lazy and stupid? At least its doesnt make people addicted to something that will KILL THEM like tobacco and alcohol do. Both perfectly legal.
or, like prescription drugs!

I wish it didn't make me paranoid, or I'd smoke it. It just makes me VERY paranoid, so I could never enjoy it. But, the people that I have ever been around that smoked it regularly were absolutely fine to be around. They were laid-back, chilled-out and relaxed. Hardly anything to be concerned about. Drunk people? Totally different situation.

Weed has positives and negatives, as does alcohol. No reason for the less damgerous of the 2 to be illegal. Plus weed has legitimate therapeutic uses. But I have also been around plenty of people who are hammered on booze and they were of no concern either.

This whole thing is stupid, but Im not sure who to blame for weed's illegality.

Marijuana doesn't make someone stupid. Ignorance makes someone stupid. Then there's just plain stupid. Marijuana can actually contribute to broadening a person's intellectual vistas. It all depends on the person.

Now, lazy? I dunno. I know some people that get more motivated and diligent when they get stoned. But, laziness is also not something that a drug creates in a person. The person creates that by themselves.
Well, I have a minor in Psychology from UNC and studied the effect of Marijuana on the human body in a Pharmacological course that combines the Pharmacy dept and Psychology dept at UNC. According to that study, marijuana is proven to diminish motivation (lazy) and has damaging effects of both short and long term memory (stupid).

Once again the Strumberger is wrong.

Having smoked a few times in my day, I can definitely say that weed makes me lazy and forgetful. So also does alcohol. Hell, I had a few beers today watching lacrosse, turned it to golf and promptly took a 2 hour nap.

I dont think weed is without fault, nor do I think it any worse than alcohol- probably slightly bettet in the long haul.

Do you disagree?

Good for you. Believe it or not, you're not infallible and neither is your minor. That's why they have studies and don't just stop with one study. My study has told me that your study is brimming with bullshit... but, so is mine.

Legalization is inevitable. Get ready for it.

NO where have I mentioned advocating legalizing or not. You assumed my stance, like an idiot. IF your study is like your study of scripture, then I know it is half assed and holds no merit with me.

If you and to believe pot does not make one lazy and stupid, fine. I guess the Cheech and chong movies won't convince you either.

The studies on this that I have read are not conclusive though that those who regularly use it lack motivation when not using but do become lethargic and unmotivated when using. It hasn't been found to cause one to be completely unmotivated.

What causes someone to be lazy and unmotivated who has never used it? Perhaps people have a condition that causes them to be lazy and unmotivated and some smoke pot and some don't but the marijuana has nothing to do with the overall condition other than exacerbating it during the time of use.

how do you guys feel about research indicating that tch kills cancer cells

I am all for that too. I feel like the cure for some cancers and other diseases can be found in it if they would just allow more research with it. I know that it is so very beneficial for patients with chronic pain type illnesses and brain disorders.

Your stance seems to be that if marijuana is legalized, users will be constantly stoned like these two (fictional) characters.

As others have said, there's not much difference between recreational alcohol use and recreational marijuana use. Being drunk or high all the time isn't something anyone here is advocating.

You were supposed to mow the lawn, remember?

The threat of rain caused me to reevaluate my position, and since my position was slightly buzzed and lying on prone on the couch, I decided I was good as is.

I work under the 'It only kills the weak brain cells' theory. Right or wrong, it's survival of the fittest here!

I agree. But the only problem is that legalizing weed will undoubtedly have an impact on tax payers. I'm not exactly sure how. But I know that it will. And that will piss me off.

Greater or lesser impact than paying for people to be arrested, tried in court and jailed?

I can't answer that. But I think the numbers of those in jail for pot are greatly exaggerated especially when you factor in the probability of that same person going to jail for something else.

I was in Amsterdam (for the first time) a few weeks ago. The popular characterizations about marijuana over there aren't that accurate. It isn't even legal - police just ignore some of the prohibition laws. Even then, you can carry more weed in D.C. without being arrested. I was actually somewhat surprised. Different, but not entirely what I expected either.

Oh, I can't answer that either. But rest assured, if weed is legalized, someone will use this as a reason taxes need to be raised.

LOL at people trying to claim getting high doesn't make you lazy (lazy in terms of not wanting to do un-fun things like work). I really don't give a shit if they legalize it or not, but at least be honest. You can't look at me with a straight face and tell me getting high doesn't make you lazy.

I have smoked one or two in my life, been many years, BUT it only made me lazy when I was actually smoking it and for about an hour after that, then I was back to my regular energized self!

I believe some people are just lazy in general, some smoke pot and some don't. I know people who have smoked for years and are VERY productive people and have held very high paying jobs and never miss a day of work. I think you guys are thinking of the stereotypical Spicoli pothead stoner kind of group. You'd be surprised at the productive people that do it regularly.

Unless you're using a turn of phrase when you say "one or two," then your sample size is way too small for you to have any idea.

Yeah, those successful people smoke at home after work, when they have nothing to do but wind down and chill. Again, I don't care about legalization, but let's all be honest. If you smoked before going to work, you would suck at your job in every field except possibly acting, musician, and porn star.

All people are not created equal. I can smoke, hold down a job, be a responsible parent and just in general, a productive member of society. I know other people that smoke that can't hold onto a job, have lost custody of their children and are just generally a drain on society. But I think that could be said for alcohol too.

There are different highs dependent upon the grade of pot. Cheap brown pot def makes u lazy. High grade sticky is just the opposite. Last sunday i hit the bowl after lunch and mowed the grass, weeded the garden and built a potters bench. Then went grocery shopping and grilled some steaks which tasted especially delicious for some reason.

I met an old guy who was a Cal Tech grad in the mid-60's- a functional mathematician, basically a genius. He was an avid pot smoker. I got to good friends with him and his wife through the Ron Paul campaign and after. anyway, I told him that pot made me paralyzed with paranoia. He said, "oh, you just need to smoke Thai stick. That will be perfect for you. You were probably smoking low-grade trash weed." maybe so, but I hated how it made me feel. Not to mention, as a teenager in eastern NC in 1985-86, it wasn't like I could order the Thai stuff at the Tinder Box in Crabtree Valley Mall.

My best friend smoked it ALL THE TIME. He got some sinsemilla and that sh*t made me wanna go to the ER! That couldn't wear-off fast enough!

But, I still want it legalized asap.

After more thought and consideration, I have to concede that is true. I owe @Louigi an apology (Sorry, Louigi) for that assessment. It does tend to make the user more lazy. The user, of course, has total control over their intake.

But, it doesn't make otherwise intelligent people stupid. And, since Louigi liked to cite a comedy team, I'll cite a scene from a film that exhibits how it actually can open your mind:
