NCAA Committee on Infractions tomorrow at noon will release its final report, including sanctions

The skeptic in me says such a quick turnaround can't be good news. But then again, with the FBI investigation happening, the NCAA has many other things to tend to now and maybe want to wash their hands of this case.

I have said for months that the Stinkey guy is a hit man and I still maintain that now. He was brought in to satisfy the dimwit media led by the punks at the N and O and ESPN. he will bring the hammer down get ready for it

BUT THEN we will sue these bastards and take em to court ...where, like Bilas has said for months now, we will win.

Stankey was removed , no?

UNC will be fine and the NCAA is on its last legs anyway so who cares about their toothless sanctions!

I don't think it's really been that quick. They get all of the evidence in advance of the hearing. The only thing new is the oral arguments and I doubt that changes the outcome much in any case. This has been going on for so long that most, if not all of them, had their mind made up beforehand.

From the hearing to the report has been quick and that is what I was referring to. Typically it can be several months before the COI announces the penalties but this was less than 8 weeks.

Well, most rumors suggest this is going to be bad. I'm just not sure if that is pertaining to WBB or also including football and MBB.

Fwiw my old college roomie who’s a fund raiser for unc and in the loop somewhat just emailed me and said the mood is grim there this morning. Not good since they prob already know the details.

The COI generally takes up to 110 days to issue their Report.
This is being issued in under a month. Now, if it were a jury trial it would not look good. But the NCAA has had all the information required to reach a conclusion for some time. When our oral arguments were made, please recall day two only took half a day.
I am hopeful WBB does not get penalized unreasonably.
Rumors are some fools opinion who has no pertinent information on the matter.

Dude, it's gonna be bad.

Actually since the decision will be made public at noon fri it means unc already knows due to the 24 hr notice. So pay attention to the rumors as leaks are inevitable.

Hey dadika13, is that your opinion or do you have some inside knowledge? Not disputing as I have no idea and not looking for you to share who the inside knowledge is just clarification as to your speculation vs. knowledge.

Thanks, enjoy reading your posts.

Pretty much everything on twitter (from people who actually cover this) say it's going to be bad. UNC has the doc already so I'm guessing it's legit.

I've seen lots of folks expecting a post season ban and reduction of scholarships. Man, I would absolutely hate to see Joel Berry and Theo Pinson not get to play in the tournament during their senior season.

IF they drop the hammer, you can bet the lawyers will be in court immediately filing appeals. NO WAY UNC will let a post season ban derail this team's defense of their title. I think the NCAA is counting on that part of that to force us to settle quickly.

My guess is the NCAA will throw everything they can think of at us - with some limits. If they dare try to take titles away, then there will be hell unleashed on them, so I don't think they will go that far. I think they will hit us hard enough to make it "look" bad in the press and to everyone not paying attention, then hope we can come to some kind of settlement quickly and quietly, IE: post season ban and reduction of scholarships. They will want to use whatever leverage they can to make this go away so they can circle the wagons on the FBI mess, so I think they are going to try to force us into a quick settlement before MBB season really kicks in. Either that or they are counting on screwing us over this year by drawing out the appeals to the point we can't get the post season ban reversed in time to actually play.

I really hope the UNC lawyers tell them to GFY and sue the hell out of them immediately. Hit them with everything they can and make the NCAA open their books and don't settle. With the impending FBI mess, UNC has more to stand on than the NCAA does, and the NCAA does NOT want to have to open it's books to anyone right now. I am sure the FBI would love to get their hands on some of that stuff if we press for it in court, so even though I think tomorrow will be bad, I think ultimately we will be OK.

Come after UNC and turn a blind eye to what is going on elsewhere? NCAA has NO jurisdiction over academics so they have s-t-r-e-t-c-h-e-d their authority to wiggle it into "benefits". Good grief.
If they apply sanctions/penalties, UNC will lawyer up again and go after them to the ncaa's regret.

Seems like a month or 2 ago everybody was saying we would have no sanctions or very light sanctions. When I suggested that if we got light sanctions (like a few games suspension, the loss of a scholarship) we should just move on and get it behind us, a bunch of folks jumped all over me and said we should sue.

Now the tone of the remarks seems to be completely different.

What changed?

Well the second coi against us last year in may was essentially a get out of jail free card and we didn't take it- which I've never been able to figure out. So who knows what the thought process has been really. To me it's been a total shit show on both sides.

Edit meant noa not coi

I'm assuming if we get a post season ban - which I agree would be unwarranted - that we just won't be invited to any tournaments.

Even if we go to court, I don't think the courts can force anyone to put us in a tournament. Can they?

I guess if there is going to be a post-season ban, this would be the best year to take it. Sad for Joel and Theo, but this is a partial rebuilding year, after all.

Plus, it would give the team a great rallying cry for the season: "Up Yours!" Might be worth a couple more victories to have that chip on our collective shoulder. ;)

That said, I'm still optimistic that we will receive no more than light sanctions, if any. And I hope we just roll with the punch and move on.

I base that optimism on nothing. I am merely hopeful.

I don't think the courts could or would, but I think UNC lawyers will go after the NCAA with a fury they have never seen before if they were to do this. Tournaments could do what they want, but I think UNC's lawyers will make life hell for the NCAA if they ban us from playing this year. May not matter to them if they can hit us with a black eye, even if it ultimately blows back in their face.

As to the change in tune on what could happen, I think it has more to do with the fact we know the NCAA is as fickle as a teenage girl with raging hormones and their disdain over us not bending over and taking what they wanted to give us was obvious. I think most of us are hoping reason and sanity will rule the day, but realize we aren't dealing with reasonable and sane people in the NCAA. Making UNC look bad helps taint the ACC even further and somewhat takes the focus off the SEC, which I still think Stankey is trying to do.

The consensus from everything I have read is that we will get hammered, but seems will stop short of vacating wins or titles (for MBB). UNC will appeal. If that fails, UNC will take it to court and win, but at the cost of this dragging on for another year or two.

This is posturing, since the 2nd COI came out I think most of us assumed first that the NCAA would hammer us as hard as it could and that we would take this to court if they did anything against men's basketball. It was pretty clear by that 2nd COI and I think the NCAA has to start out strong and then either settle back or take their chances in court, the later I do not think they really want. So they hit hard, we refuse to accept it, they offer something reduced and we decide to take that or not, most likely not, I think this has to end up in court. That is IMO the tone ever since the 2nd COI came out...
