Netflix Finds

yea my wife found the whole show depressing tbh. There’s prob some sort of social psychology thing going on with this show coming out during the pandemic scare. The two will always be entwined.

It is very depressing. Mainly for the animals because they never had any say in the matter. As entertaining as the documentary was, the guy is basically a predator that went after young, dumb, drug addicts and ruined their lives.

The memes from that show are definitely going to last a long time.

Agreed. Just finished that series. It was entertaining but sad overall. They were some seriously messed up people.

Don’t spoilt it for me. I haven’t started season 3 yet, but I’m looking forward to it. Loved the first 2 seasons and, yes, they will take out characters unexpectedly like no other show I’ve seen.

Let’s buy another casino. We’ll back it with Mexico drug cartel money but we’ll keep it legit. Oh and we’ll cut the local mob in as well. What could possibly go wrong?

I just finished watching The Hunters on prime. It was ok, some parts better than others. It sorta didn't seem to know where it was going or what is was trying to be (if that makes any sense).

Obviously some serious subject matter, dealing with holocaust flashbacks. But there were also Tarantino- like comic book type scenes (in the protagonist's mind) that were pretty humorous and witty. However, they were sporadic. And some of the twists at the end seemed a bit much. It sets itself up for a 2nd season, but I'm on the fence if they should or not, TBH.

At times, I'd want to give this series an 8, but other times a 5. I'll split the difference and say 6.5/10.

Yea I’m the same way although I’ve currently lost interest 5 episodes in. I quit it to watch ozark WHICH WAS AMAZING. But now I’m through with that so I might pick up hunters again if I can’t find anything else.

ozark is freakin incredible...wife had never seen an episode before last week, so i started over and now we’re on episode 5 of season 3.

i sometimes have to watch episodes twice anyway because something i didn’t catch earlier...the writing on this show is amazing.

as far as tiger king-esque shows, i’m researching that.

If you liked that, have you seen "A Band Called Death"? Another cool rock & roll story.

no I will check it out. We may have talked about this before but have you seen “cbgb” about the club in New York where ramones, talking heads, blondie, iggy pop, etc got their start?

just started waco...through episode 2.

that’s a f’d up dude.

They get a lot wrong in that series but it is still pretty good. They romanticize him a lot and don't show how much of a psycho he really was

The Last Kingdom is like 100 times better than Game of Thrones. If you're into that type of show then I'd definitely recommend it.

And let me just say “outer banks” may be the worst show I’ve ever watched over two episodes of. Campy, corny, and geographically idiotic. They take a fuking ferry to chapel hill.
'Message in a Bottle' is a romantic film with Kevin Costner about a coastal North Carolina boatbuilder. It was moderately interesting until they showed a NC beach scene. They got a lot right, but NC beaches don't have giant rocks. Not a big deal in the overall scheme of things, but it just pissed me off.

If you want a film that gets its NC location right, 'Bull Durham' is it. Always tickles me to see that wonderful old ball park, and the team bus rolling down those familiar streets and roads.

Since schools are no longer in school, I spend a lot of time home on my computer, assisting kids with any help they need. Not to my surprise but very few log on for assistance. So, that leaves me some time for Netflix.

Here are a few series/documentaries that I found outstanding.

I am a Killer - interviews with men and women who are on death row for murder. Very interesting how many of them describe a funked up life as a child.

Manhunt Unabomber- absolutely fantastic series. Gotta watch this. The man was phenomenally intelligent and a lunatic.

Seven Seconds- about the death of a young man and the cover up by local police. I loved it.

Hip Hop Evolution- If you love rap and love its history like I do, this is a series for you. Four seasons but only 5 episodes per season.

The Mind of Aaron Hernandez- goes deep in to the mind of this killer and what he may have been hiding with his violent nature.

The Staircase- As I watched this series, I changed my opinion several times as the series progressed. Very addictive.

Godless- a few years old but this is amazing series set in the old west. A town that is run by women have a wanted man among them and don't know it. They're about to find out.

Dirty Money- man, just watching this pissed me off. You have to see how the system is so friggin twisted and how money is made and lost. Mostly made.

Yeah, man. I watched 2 episodes and quit. Couldn't take it any more.

So, now here is the kicker. The producer and screenwriter of the series are from the same town as I am. Their dad is a retired judge. They are very smart and very spoiled. VERY spoiled.

*** Movie Hot Take ***

Bull Durham is terrible. Would gladly watch Grey's Anatomy instead, if given the option of the two.

Bull Durham is one of the very few sports movies that I can even bear to watch, and it is excellent. It has a realistic minor league baseball feel if you can disregard the cinematic excesses. I have no knowledge of GA.

Totally agree with this. I tried to watch and didn't even make it through episode two. There was an article in the local newspaper where the writer tried to explain away the ferry ride to Chapel Hill. He said that there was a segment where they got off the ferry and drove their car to CH but it got left out by the editors before he realized it and could make the correction.

"Have Good Trip" was pretty funny. Celebrities share their acid trip experiences.

Several reminded me of my own. I was born high... never needed psychedelics. But, I'm through the looking glass now!

I never knew Carrie Fisher was so heavy into LSD!
