Player punishments are very ambiguous under Goodell. It feels like they are using the South Park "Margaritaville" episode method of cutting off a chicken's head and letting him run around until he lands on a certain number of games.

I hate Brady, but no way should he have been suspended for four games for that crap.
Y'all know I enjoy pulling for the Patriots (mostly because everyone else hates them), but that Gronk hit is one of the dirtiest things I've seen in any sport. He could've killed that dude hitting him like that.

The NFL is setup to help catapult the worst teams back to, at a minimum, mediocrity. The Browns are terrible.
This guy actually had them on the right path. Guess that's why they had to get rid of him and keep their crap coach.
And all of them would have looked horrible in Cleveland because they have no talent to surround a QB. You have to have at least one group (OL, RB, WR) that is at least average for a rookie QB to succeed. They don't have that. The GM recognized that and was building up some picks/talent to help a young QB succeed.
To say it's too early to judge those picks would be a huge understatement.
If you can’t make noise in 2 years on this team then you probably not going to be able to at all.... I like Garrett, Kizer and Njoki( TE from Miami) but don’t think anyone from the last 2 will ever be major contributors
That's got more to do with the coaching I think. Look what happened with the Rams. They were a joke on offense last year. Now their QB looks like one of the best in the league. The Browns have no players and no coaches. They fired the guy who has put them in position to have talent (and cap room), but kept a horrible coach. Only in Cleveland.
It was and is dumbbbbbbbbbbb to draft a defensive lineman at #1 (or 2 or 3) overall if you don't have a franchise QB on your roster.
Thought experiment:
- Yes, Garrett was hyped up to be a can't-miss, sure-thing DL. Totally agree with that assessment
- Let's assume for a moment that Garrett outperforms even his gaudy hype and goes on to be a future Hall of Fame DLman.
- Is HOFer Garrett going to make Cleveland a Super Bowl contender? Nope. Is it gonna do anything more than maybe add 1-2 wins per season? Nope.
- now, consider Cleveland instead drafts a QB who turns into a very solid (Top 8 in the league) QB.
- Is the play of said QB going to make Cleveland a Super Bowl contender? Quite possibly.
- Is the play of said QB going to make Cleveland a playoff team? Yes, almost assuredly.
This is a QB-driven league. If you don't have a good QB, you're going nowhere. Drafting a DLman #1 overall when the Browns have so many more pressing needs (i.e. QB) is dumb. Look at what the Rams did the past four seasons before this season. They probably had the best DL from top to bottom in the whole league. Did it do a damn thing for them? No, because their offense was bad.
The one exception here is Von Miller for the Broncos. He led them to a super bowl win despite having a rotating sack of garbage at QB (Manning and Osweiler).
But agreed that the Brownies need to get a QB before they try to do anything else because the Broncos situation was an anomaly they won't recreate. And it doesn't look like Kizer is the answer.
