NFL 2018-19

I’ll say 6.

How many so far: Cleveland, GB, TB, NYJ?

What other teams HC’s might be on the hot seat: Miami, Jax, Denver? Is Cincy going to finally cut Marvin loose?
I'm not sure Zimmer in MN is totally safe. They were 13-3 last year and one game from the Superbowl (albeit a bit fluky on a miracle against New Orleans) with an average QB.

Now they pay $84M/ 3 years for a supposed star QB (Cousins) and he stinks it up....4 and 25 against winning teams lifetime. Putrid. They can't get to 9 wins to make the playoffs. Getting smoked at home by Buffalo is a bad omen. They lose this game today by a blowout really, when Chicago had nothing to play for today. Pure embarrassment and lack of heart.

Chicago should've given the game to Minn today, to guarantee a soft opponent next week at home (same Minnesota). Now instead Chicago gets a scrappy past champs Philly team.

Vikings made a bunch of changes midyear to try to jumpstart the offense. Nothing worked. I wouldn't be surprised if they get rid of Zimmer (or could they demote him back to D-coordinator?) and hire an offensive minded coach. and they have to get a legit NFL offensive line.

Also- I hope the Cowboys let go of Garrett and their offensive coordinator if (when?) they lose at home to Seattle next week. What has Garrett ever done to get the team ready to play big when it matters? who couldn't do at least what he has done?

I knew they were making a big mistake paying cousins all that money. He was 1-6 vs winning teams this season (just win half those and you’re in the playoffs). They would’ve been better off to keep Kenum and invest in OL help.

True. But I respect what the Bears did by playing hard to the end (even after it was obvious the Rams weren’t going to lose and help them move up).

Love ‘em or hate ‘em, I do respect that teams like the Steelers focus on the long term in regards to their head coach, and don’t fire them immediately following one disappointing season. We’ve all seen how well that works for Cleveland, Detroit, etc.

I’m glad to see that the Panthers new onwer is not pulling the plug on Rivera.

Up to 8 now... Arizona fires Wilks after one year. Unless the coach is clearly in over his head, or has caused some serious issues internally, I think this is ridiculous. Give the dude a chance for God’s sake. One year is not enough when you’re trying to get a rookie qb some experience.

ETA: maybe the Panthers can bring home back to get that defense back on track.

As much as I think Gregg Williams is a POS for that bounty crap he pulled with the Saints, the Browns went 6-3 under him to close out the season. I'm all for giving dudes a second chance; he should definitely be considered a front runner for that job.

I think I heard that on average 5 of the 12 playoff teams from the previous year don't repeat. So who's out this year? Here's my guesses... I have no idea who the new "in" teams would be, just my gut:
* Pats - in
Steelers - in ... WRONG
* Jags - out (I don't believe in Blake)
Chiefs - out (new QB) ... Boy, was I WRONG
* Titans - probably out
* Bills - out (because... they're the Bills)

* Eagles - in (I think)
* Vikings - out (not sure about cousins) ... I knew he sucked!
* Rams - in
* Saints - in
* Panthers - out (just don't have faith in that o-line)
Falcons - in ... WRONG
Wow... 7 new playoff teams this year.
But I was right in 9 of my 12 guesses, so I got that going for me.

season predictions:

afc:
steelers
texans
pats
chargers

jags
bengals

nfc:
vikings
saints
eagles
rams

giants
falcons

sb: saints/chargers

i’m really between dallas winning the division or going 7-9...if the defense is as good as advertised and zeke gets loose, it could be a good year...7-9 gets garrett fired, so win win.
not bad @gteeitup ... you got half the playoff teams, and your SB prediction is solid.

Here’s my take... nothing but a gut feeling, and I’m not feeling too good today so I’ve got an excuse for a couple of these.

Pats
Steelers
Texans
Chargers
Ravens

Titans

Giants
Packers
Falcons
Rams
Saints
Cowboys

I have no idea about NFC East this year

SB: Steelers v. Rams
I got 7 playoff teams right, but my SB pick is whack. My two AFC misses were down to the wire, but my NFC misses were abysmal.

So, no rookie QB has ever started in a Super Bowl; and I think only two second year guys have won a SB (Brady, Wilson). The AFC is basically three rookies, along with Brady, Rivers and Luck. The NFC has 3 SB winners (bold) and 3 young'uns with no playoff victories. Based on experience and home field advantage, it's looking like a Saints - Pats super bowl is in the making.

AFC:

Mahomes (2nd year, but only 1 as starter)
Brady (57 years)
Watson (1.5 years; injured half of last season)
Jackson (rookie - 7 starts)
Rivers (15)
Luck (7)

NFC:
Brees
(15)
Goff (3)
Trubisky (2)
Prescott (3)
Wilson (7)
Foles (7)

Sounds like the Bucs are going to either trade or, most likely, cut Gerald McCoy. 2018 was his last year with a cap hit and Vita Vea is looking like a man-child in the middle of the D-line.

just can’t get a read on dallas...tell ya what, that game sunday didn’t mean anything and they didn’t quit...they have serious momentum going in.
I’m looking forward to these wildcard games; on paper they all look good. The home teams are all starting relatively young QBs versus teams with veterans QBs with playoff / SB experience. Some pretty good defenses too.

I’d like to see Mitchell do well but have a feeling that Philly will find a way to win that game.

I just read that Kingsbury plans to interview with a couple of NFL teams despite accepting the OC position at USC. Not sure how serious he is about the NFL.

If you had your choice of the HC jobs, what are the most desired ones from the current openings: Browns, Broncos, Dolphins, Jets, Bengals, Packers, Bucs, Cardinals?

For me - and I can’t believe I’m saying this -but I think the Browns might be the best choice. They have a promising qb, young talent, and I assume they still have extra picks in upcoming drafts. And they weren’t too far back in their division this year, so the potential is there to win right away.

The Jets and Dolphins still have to deal with the Patriots. The Bengals feel like they need a rebuild. The Cardinals look like a mess, and firing Wilks after one season makes them undesirable from a management standpoint.

The Packers have A.A.Ron so maybe they would be my second choice but he is getting up there and seems to get banged up every year.

The Broncos feel like they could be good again with a decent qb. But the Chiefs and Chargers are solid and that’s a tough division.

The Bucs might be a decent option if Winston can ever show some consistency on the field and maturity off the field. The NFC South doesn’t look that daunting anymore. Sure the Saints are a beast right now but how many more seasons will you get like this from Brees?

The Bucs GM recently said that any new coach must accept Winston as the starting QB. I think that's putting the coach in a bad position right from the start.

I agree that the Browns look like a really good option right now.

The Browns situation seems like the best, but they're the Browns so will never actually be good I don't think.

Out of those choices, I'd take the Jets if I thought I was gonna be good. They have a solid young core and winning in a major market would be cool. If I thought I'd suck I'd go to the Bengals since I could probably still last there for a decade.

The talk down here is that the pick is going to be Arians. He loves America's Quarterback and has ties to GM Jason Licht.

Arians is a solid coach. For me, Winston would have to be at the level of Drew Brees to overlook all of the off-field baggage and he's not there.

His off the field issues have been beyond blown out of proportion. Most of the people I've found who don't like him, do so because he's a "cocky n***er." I'm not saying you're one of these people, but there's an obvious narrative being pushed about the guy.

I won't necessarily disagree that Winston's off field transgressions have been blown out of proportion. But they keep happening. And he's just an unlikable kind of guy anyway so he brings it on himself. Lastly, when you play QB for an NFL team, this is what comes along with it. It's the hardest and most high profile job in professional sports. Winston is not a guy that I'm ever hitching my wagon to. But please don't do that race baiting shit. There's plenty of reason to not like Winston. And even if you do like him, there's plenty of reason to not want him as the starting QB for your team.

I'm definitely not one of those people.

I'm not saying that he's helped himself out in this regard, but a lot of his hatred, at least down here, are from either racists or UF fans. His whole situation with Erica Kinsmen was started by her UF graduate relative. He's been under an unfair microscope ever since. He should have been more careful with his actions, sure, but this is starting to border on ridiculous.

All of his issues aside, he's just not very good either. When you and Ryan Fitzmagic are battling it out for the starting position, it's a sign that most likely you're destined for a back up role in the NFL.
