NFL 2019-20

Comically bad special teams.
"Hold my beer" - Panthers

They missed 2 XPs, a short FG (AND this is in a dome!). But the best example of their ineptitude was in 1st quarter when one of their guys ran into their own punt returner, and then had the ball hit his leg. Of course, the Saints recover it and score on the short field about 3 plays later to go up 14-0. At that point I went outside to rake leaves... and I freaking hate raking leaves!

no because i don’t think a message is sent or a clear evaluation can be done on a new coach.

and to see josh mcdaniels and mike zimmer on a short list is already weird.
Yeah, whether you want him replaced at end of year or not, I don't see how that helps to fire a coach mid season, especially when they are still leading their division.

I could see a team winning NFC east at 8-8. In fact if cowboys beat eagles again then certainly the div winner will be 8-8. A 7-9 div winner isn’t out of the question

i think i read the cows could lose next two and still be in control as long they beat philly.

I have Edelman on my FF team
I have Sony Michel on mine - what a bust this year. Also I have OBJ from the Browns - another total bust.

The Pats have been "dead and buried" before and have come back bigly, and it seems like their defense is still quite solid (Deshaun Watson is just really good)…..but Brady looks like his best days are behind him for sure. I think he is in the bottom third for any measurable QB rating this year, and he just misses on throws, and throws it away on more throws this year, than in several years in the past.

@gteeitup who would you like to see as the next HC in Dallas? The challenge I think as long as JJ is owner - is finding a top notch guy willing to come there, knowing JJ is going to be highly meddling in the day-to-day - though honestly maybe he's gotten better about that.

Most of the leading candidates I've heard are offense-oriented coaches...Lincoln Riley, Josh McDaniels…..I read an article about Dan Campbell who had some experience with the Cowboys I think, was interin HC for Miami for a bit, and now is an assistant HC in New Orleans, coaching the tight ends. He might be OK.

I've also heard crazy names like Sean Payton, Mike Zimmer. Why would these guys leave gigs where they are successful, contending HCs to go to such a high scrutiny, high pressure role at a sort of middling team like the Cowboys.

I'm not sold on Kris Richard as HC. The defense has been the biggest issue this year, and the secondary is dead fing last in ever getting a turnover. Can't get an INT to save their lives.

Gun to my head - I guess I'd go with one of Riley, Urban Meyer, or Dan Campbell at this point.

@Heelicious if i’m jerry i get to payton somehow...maybe trade a draft pick(s) for him...he just signed an extension this past offseason, so it would take a lot...if brees retires, that might help the move.

then i go lincoln riley...it’s the perfect opportunity for him to leave.

bob stoops is interesting at only 59...but his nickname is “big game bob” though, so not sure i what a dude choking in the moment...plus, he’s terrible at clock management, maybe worse than garrett.

zimmer is interesting, but does he move the needle?...he’s old school dallas.

after those names, everyone is the same...they all have warts.

I don't know why Riley would ever want to leave OU. He will make a ton of money and will have far more job security, especially since Texas clearly isn't "back" yet.

peterson just resigned/retired from washington...that’s interesting.

boise people all in dallas org
He used the word recharge in his statement, not retire. He comes across as a college guy to me, not NFL. Maybe a replacement for Mack if he retires in the next 5-7 years?

I gotta say... I didn't recognize the Redskin defense yesterday. I cannot believe they stopped McCaffrey, in Charlotte.
Panthers are too predictable, and like the Heels, they suck in the red zone. With a healthy Cam, opponents had to worry about him running it but Kyle Allen ain't scaring nobody there.

Lots of chatter that Rivera is done after this year. I like the guy, he's done some good things, and while it's not all his fault*, it probably is time for a change.

*Panthers were 17-7 with a healthy Newton (2017 and first half of 2018), but after that Steeler game when he got hurt, they've been 6-14.

Riverboat Ron just got dropped off on the riverbank
It was probably time for a change, but I'm not a fan of sacking the coach late in the season, especially when he's been your all-time winningest coach.

My guess is they fired him early to get early shots on some college coaches
That could be the reason why, but I'm not sure if there are any college coaches I would want.

panther fans, you ready to dump cam and save that money?...might as well now, right?
yeah, I'm betting they will move on from Cam as well

I did feel like it was time for a change, but I sure hope Tepper doesn't become one of these meddling owners that keeps firing coaches every year or two. I'll give him a pass for this one, just hope he makes a good choice.

I'm betting Rivera will get another job pretty quickly.... Redskins? (whatcha think, @strummingram?)
I hope not. Although... as with most things Redskins, I'm like Scott Van Pelt... we're completely apathetic to the entire organization. After 20 years of Dan Snyder and sub-par, barely mediocre, and even just down-right awful, the prospect of a new coach doesn't matter.

If you leave it to Snyder, he'd go try and find some other attachment to the "glory days" and keep the program where it has been for more than 20 years.

And, the better question is; Who would want to come to Washington??? The Redskins are better known for the talent that flourishes after they depart from them. Look at Kyle Shanahan, Sean McVay, Matt LaFleur... all doing very well, elsewhere.

I saw his record and it's really not THAT bad! A Super Bowl appearance, and 3 NFC East titles.

Seems like all these coaches go in a perpetual merry-go-round, or play musical-chair-teams until they retire. Norv Turner was one of the many crappy coaches since Snyder bought the Redskins.

OMG... @gteeitup , quite a few sites listing Garrett as a possible replacement for Rivera, and he's still coaching a team that's leading their division.

that’s interesting...all i keep hearing is garrett to the giants.

jerry is firing garrett unless something crazy happens...the fact that sean payton is also getting odds as well is nuts.

The Panthers taking the Cowboys scraps would be a very Panthers move.
Yep, Rivera is not elite, but he's not that bad a coach. I could easily see them downgrading and getting worse.

ETA: new owner, so I'm willing to see where this goes. But I don't have a good feeling about this. To me, firing Rivera with 4 games left feels like a move that crappy organizations like the Browns and Lions make.

i don’t know how accurate this is or how relevant it is to coaching and fortune, but the ravens and 49ers might be the best two teams in the league and they have top 10 offenses and defenses...the only other team that has both is dallas.

the difference is turnovers, i guess...so, imo, turnovers are luck/fortune...you can probably coach guys to be more aware; sticks arms up to bat balls on the line, try and strip, turn your head to locate the ball, etc...but is that coaching or instincts of a player?

the 49ers were dead last in +/- last year, now they might be first or near the top...are they magically better or have they been coached to be better.
