NFL 2019-20

I'd be nervous pulling a college co-offensive coordinator for an NFL head coaching job. Not sure how much of Meyer's success would translate to the NFL where he can't just recruit better talent than everyone else. If I were Dallas, Riley would be my #1 option.

@Heelicious tell me what you think of these names; urban meyer, lincoln riley, tony elliott.
@gteeitup I had to google Elliott - I'm not a large, close follower of college football.
I'd be OK with any of those three - ready for anyone different at this point. It feels like they need even more help on the defensive side, so base on that I'd rank the guys you have listed in this order:
1 Meyer
2 Riley
3 Elliot

The way they played like gutless pigs last night was so infuriating. Their (lack of) tackling, blocking, kicking with any competency made me want several guys to get benched - especially since the game was over after first drive of second half.

The coaching changes are going to need to be deeper than just Ginger Clapper. The defense flat out sucks right now, only surpassed in suckitude by the special teams.

Lots of on-field talent guys need assessed, for example in their secondary. There are no "slam dunk" big contracts coming for guys like Jones, Awuzeh, etc. They are terrible as a unit (under Richard)

Then you have Jerrah Jones babbling on and on after the about - "just win a game". That is some real Rhodes Scholar assessment, right there.

It appeared JG was so pissed all night, for the parts I saw. Didn't talk to any players, any coaches, or into his headset. Like just a slow burn. He knows he's gone. I've thought he lost this team's ear a few games ago. Many "leader" players melting down on sidelines, followed by Pop Warner level play on the field - good times in Big D.

Is Meyer interested in nfl jobs now?
He was quoted in an interview recently as saying the Dallas job is one anyone would have to look at carefully - it's so high profile.

But what coach is willing to take the job and is willing to deal with / answer to the meddling circus clown that is Jerry Jones? That's been the problem from Jimmy Johnson coaching, forward.

i want riley...if he’s not interested, then give up some picks for sean payton.

i don’t get the fascination with elliott other than being “getable” because why not; boyd, watson, trevor...plus, if he could get venables, then who knows...not saying that’s great, but eyes are big when you’re talking about getting that job.

i can’t imagine payton being valued for more than two draft picks, 1st/3rd...i’d do it last week.

@gteeitup it looks like the Rams have righted the ship and have figured some things out on both sides of the ball, especially defense, and are trending upward.

Cowboys fans should start preparing themselves to deal with another embarrassing 20+ point beat down again this weekend. And in Jerry World. Good times, good times....

the fastest way to change is to bend over for the rams and for the fans to sell their tickets to opposing fans.

If Goodell lets the Patriots slide again for Spygate 2.0, he will lose any remaining credibility he has left.

If I'm Jerry, I go after Payton first. He's got a proven track record of success in the NFL. Riley and Meyer are great coaches, but you never know how well a college coach will do in the NFL. Either of them can be the next Pete Carroll or Nick Saban,

I can't see why Saban would want to do that when he rules CFB, unless it would be to prove that his previous NFL failure was a fluke. He would likely want more control than JJ would be willing to give.

Cowherd listed two main reasons why Saban would be interested in the Cowboys job.

1. He said NFL coaches actually have more control over their roster than college coaches now. He said college coaches can recruit players, but now they can decide to transfer without much restrictions and they're gone. NFL players are pretty much locked in under contracts.

2. More competition with recruiting in SEC now with Kirby Smart at Georgia, Ed Orgeron at LSU and now Kiffin back in the SEC as well. Good time for Nick to move.

The first argument kind of makes sense. I don't see the recruiting competition thing though. I don't think Smart has beaten him yet, and LSU did this year with their best QB in years and Tua out due to injury.

He has everything he wants at Bama. I don't see him leaving unless he wants to prove he can win in the NFL.

i don’t know how legitimate saban is for this job...i do think meyer is more legitimate, though...heard a dude, a former scout, say today that meyer is a guy that has assembled great staffs, doesn’t mind allowing them to coach their side, and can assemble talent...he also evolves based on trends and he values defense.

not where i’d go, but i could easily see jerry liking his style.

now they’re saying the official screwed it up and it’s not reviewable...wtf
They aren't just saying it, they have a recording of Captain Dak saying they are "deferring." It was such an egregious error of misinformation the league office corrected it themselves.

As a Cowboy fan, I'm a little confused on how to feel. On the one hand, I want very much for the Cowboys to make the playoffs. On the other hand, we should just get it over with and start over.

team is very odd...making a playoff run could extend garrett and current staff, validate roster moves, and aid to remaining stale on both sides of the ball...if you show up sixteen times like yesterday, you make the playoffs and are a contender...i just don’t feel like what i just watched is their true identity.

Me either. In fact, I'll just go ahead and say it. The Rams laid down. They are done and they knew it yesterday.

I guess I'm such a pessimist - or maybe a realist - having seen it so many times over the recent couple of decades....
the Cowboys played great really on defense and offense, and their special teams didn't suck that bad yesterday.

After the first couple minutes of game time, they actually looked ready to play.

I don't see how they repeat this sort of effort and readiness against the Eagles. I believe the Cowboys have better healthy talent than the Eagles….but I can foresee / predict Sunday in the Linc being a comedy of unpreparedness and errors by the Cowboys. Finding every way to lose a game they should win. Feeling too good about themselves, fat and happy about one win against a team that packed it in after first quarter.

I hope I'm proven wrong, but I don't think I will be.

This is only partially NFL 19-20 related....but I enjoyed the preview of the Peyton's Places series enough that I decided to sign up for ESPN+ to view them. I think its like $4.99 per month and has some other decent content.

I watched the first three episodes last night, and I liked it a lot. The people he has on the series are outstanding - funny, interesting. And the old footage (from nearly 100 years ago) of football is hilarious.

Crazy how much the game ( and the $$$) have changed. The people on the first episodes were Jay Leno, Joe Namath, Cris Carter, Raymond Berry (from the Colts in an episode about passing and Johnny Unitas).

I totally get that Manning is sort of overexposed in the TV culture today, and can have a pretty cheesy schtick - but I think he actually is quite good at narrating in a funny way - tying the NFL past to present.

Does anyone think the Bengals would take Young or is Burrow pretty much a lock for them at #1?

I think they go with Burrow, as it's time for them to move on from Dalton. But if he craps out in the playoffs, then who knows. Pro football in Ohio is crappy.

Now OBJ wants to stay with the Browns. That team is all drama
