NFL Offseason Thread

Basically. Cooks could really be scary good with NE.

I'm just stocked at the moves Carolina made today. Vastly improved their roster today. Added D-Line depth, filled the hole at Nickel, signed their LT (which has been a weak spot for years), replaced speedy Ted Ginn with speedy Charles Johnson (the other one), signed a Safety with multiple pro bowl seasons...
They filled a lot of weak spots from last year.
Not picking on you I swear, but hint hint, when teams make big free agency splash signings, they're generally in for a world of hurt in terms of W/L and future cap room.

I say this knowing full well it applies to my team too -- Tampa -- and their free agency signing of DeSean Jackson

100% agree with regards to blockbuster deals. The moves Gettleman made today were methodical ones...I doubt many teams were lining up to toss money at Captain Munnerlyn, Charles Johnson, Russell Shepard (who you should know...he played in Tampa). Getttleman signed guys largely with previous Carolina ties -- Peppers is obvious. Munnerlyn is from South Carolina and was drafted originally by Carolina. Shepard said one of the Panthers assistants helped him when he came into the NFL. These were largely methodical moves, outside of Matt Kalil (but that one was a need they had to throw money at).

FWIW -- I think Atlanta takes a big step back next year...people are going to see just how vital to that team's offense (1) Kyle Shanahan and (2) being healthy all year were. I really think Tampa and Carolina are primed to battle it out for the NFC South for the foreseeable future.

This is why I hate your team, and it's also why you're good.

I heard you're still willing to deal Malcolm Butler.

I'd imagine so. Can't imagine Butler willing to take a dime less than Gilmore, and don't see them paying $30M to their corners. Since theyre the favorites to win this year they may hang on to Butler on the cheap for this one season though.

Agree. Gettleman isn't doing what Hurney did in tying up a lot of cap space for multiple years. Most of these deals, besides Matt Kalil, are short term. We need to be able to sign Kawaan Short to a good deal. He's a frugal, old Jew :D

And besides, I'd rather make moves in free agency than do nothing like we did last year.

You think he's going to be traded or will he stay?

Doubt he'll be traded. If someone is stupid enough to offer sheet him and do the Patriots bidding for them I could see them being content with letting him go for the 1st round pick or matching the contract. Otherwise, he's on the Pats for $3.9 this year

This just makes me mad lol. You keep Butler, get Cooks, and you deal away Collins and Chandler Jones last year like it was nothing?

Will you stop getting everything right? There's no team in your conference remotely close to you right now.

Didn't wanna call it out, but I think the DeSean signing was terrible. As has been pointed out ITT I may not be a good GM, so I certainly could be proven wrong on that.
Oh I agree. I said earlier in the thread that I'd be shocked if he performed for all 3 years and didn't get in trouble or cause chemistry issues.

You've already got Jameis who I believe is a good guy at heart, but he's helplessly dumb sometimes when it comes to tact with the media and stuff. And now you wanna add DaSean Jackson to the huddle?? Lol.

One of the reasons the Falcons made the Super Bowl last year is because they got really really good production from not one, but two high-priced free agent signings in Alex Mack and Mohammad Sanu. Generally that never happens. Look at the stupid was Dolphins. They sign 2-3 free agents to huge contracts every off-season and they NEVER pan out. Over-reliance on free agency is how you suck for years and years in the NFL.

Again, attribute Atlanta's success last year to Kyle Shanahan and staying healthy. Shanahan doesn't get the recognition he deserves IMO -- he was the reason RGIII...who he and his dad didn't even want to draft in the first place (it was Dan Snyder's call)...was successful in his rookie year. He is the one who turned Kirk Cousins into a Pro Bowl QB...and then went on to turn Matt Ryan into an MVP.

Here's an explanation as to how he uses various schemes to accomplish this.

I don't think many are expecting or even acknowledging how big of an impact it will be in Atlanta with him no longer calling the plays. They will try to emulate some of it, but consistently...it isn't going to work. And being healthy for a full season is very rare. I would bank on it that they take a step back.

I agree mostly with your feeling on Tampa Bay, but even still...they have the talent level to contend. I would be pretty shocked if they aren't at least a Wild Card team next year.

former tar heel jonathon cooper signs a deal in dallas...they gave him a first round grade in the draft so they are happy to have him.

Rich fixin' to get richer. Malcolm Butler set to visit New Orleans. The Saints will sign him cuz he's good value and they desperately need defense. Patriots won't match because they're ruthless and they'll get New Orleans' #11 pick.*flame emoji*

Seen some mock drafts that are now projecting Mitch to go to the Texans with the 25th pick. I think that would be a decent place for him if Romo signs with them. If they don't sign Romo that may end up being bad for him. They don't have a good backup plan for a starter and I think Mitch is going to need to sit for a couple of years before he becomes the starter.

they go deep into these dudes at every positions.

here's a great scouting website i've followed a good bit...if i knew how addictive crack was, this would be mine.

i'm on safeties now, but they go deep into these dudes at every positions.

That's the second mock draft today that I've seen Mitch going to the Browns. I really hope that doesn't happen to him. If it does I'm going to start a go fund me page to raise money for the construction of a career memorial for him.
