OOTB Carolina football discussion thread

Nah, you didn't miss anything, they're all jerks. Invited me and then didn't answer when I called to try to find 'em so I just had to wander through the lot looking all sad and forlorn.
BTW, not even 45 seconds after you got in that elevator, LT came back and walked right to where you, Cheyenne, and I were standing and stood right next to us for 30 seconds. You missed your chance!

I walked right by him just before y'all came out to the concourse. Could've shaken his hand but he was busy talking to somebody and I chickened out. Which brings me to my next point, gentlemen. Don't smoke crack.

I never did find @UNC71-00 and @Raising Heel's bougie box but hanging out in the mezzanine level was pretty sweet.

Proposal: Instant replays should be limited to 2 minutes. Ready or not, when the replay clock hits 0, the official has to make a call.
Haven't rewatched the game yet, but I have no clue why the replay review of the WCU player stepping out of bounds took so dang long. It was an incredibly easy call and they took ~5 minutes to review it. And after all that, they didn't even call illegal touching like they should have.

@ticket2ride04 give us a rundown of the Carter Finley experience.
I was sitting in a decent section so it wasn’t too bad. Still unpleasant though.

- had a guy call me a dumbass a couple times before we had words. He settled down though.

- old man a few rows up was yelling at me ‘fvck you cheats!’ I turned to wave at him and his head nearly blew. He then asked me if I even went to unc and when I said yes, he called me fvcking liar.

- these guys sat behind us and held the signs all game. They used Duke blue instead of Carolina blue.

Honestly, the atmosphere was super tight and nervoxu, especially after halftime. When State finally took the lead the crowd went crazy. And it wasn’t joy of the score as much as a collective loud sigh. You knew their whole season was lost if they lost.

Pretty frustrating game to watch at times. I felt like they initiated much of the chippiness and then benefited from the chaos it created. There is a video out there of one of their idiot players running over one of our coaches and then kind of pushing him in the face to throw him off. In football, I would rather beat State then Duke.

Thank God you survived.

Back in the 90's, I foolishly went to that turd hole one time for a UNC game. It was the worst experience as a visiting fan that I've ever had. State fans are trash. I can only imagine how much more disgusting they are 20+ years later.

This coaching carousel is CRAZY.

Gundy possibly to UT??? If that happens, Oklahoma State would include Fedora on its candidacy list. Also... Tennessee has contacted Doeren too. LULZ.

No one. We'll just disband the program. 75% of our fanbase wouldn't even notice.

That's harsh but not totally inaccurate. What about McElwain? I know he had some issues at UF, but that job proved to be bigger than he could handle. He may do okay at UNC with far less scrutiny. If the administration and fan base has the patience to allow him to build up the program slowly, he may have success here.

I would only be in favor of this hire if he doesn't bring in Nussmeier as his OC. He's been a disaster in that role at both Michigan and UF.

Oh, it's quite accurate. Our shitty fanbase wouldn't give af if we disbanded football. Nor would they care if we disbanded all our other sports (most of which are perennial national championship contenders) as long as we kept precious basketball.

As for hiring McElwain..............I'd rather just disband the program, to be honest. I'm not ready to start listing names because we still have a head coach. But I have my opinion of who we should hire, and McElwain isn't in the Top 10 of that list.

Ehhh... fukk it, I'll play. My short-list, in order (note, I have only listed candidates I believe we could realistically get. Thus, no Saban, Gruden, Chris Peterson, et al) :

1. Lane Kiffin
2. Mike Leach
3. Mike Houston (James Madison)
4. Charlie Strong (a black HC could KILL at Carolina)
5. Kevin Wilson (Ohio State OC -- possibly not realistic hire for UNC because he's a big ol' meanie to his widdle pwayers)

I mentioned Kiffin as a possibility last week, because I think there is a possibility that he would stay here long-term and not leave for a bigger job at the first chance, considering his previous experiences at Tennessee and USC.

I don't know much about Houston, but I would also be fine with either Strong or Wilson.

As for Houston, I HATE the route of going with an FCS coach, but everyone says Houston is a fantastic coach and Carolina is his dream job, so I put him on there.

Kiffin would be a home run, grand slam, touchdown, field goal, hole in one hire. The dude is an offensive genius. He's got FAU at 9-3, 8-0 in conference play, won the East Division of CUSA and is heading to the CUSA Championship Game against who? Yep, Seth Litrell-coached North Texas.

FAU's record before Kiffin got there:
2016 - 3-9 (2-6)
2015 - 3-9 (3-5)
2014 - 3-9 (2-6)

Sure, Kiffin wouldn't be able to get all the Last Chance U guys he got to go to FAU, but he wouldn't have to do that. He could obviously get better talent at Carolina. And one more added bonus of getting Kiffin......... Moo DESPISES him because of his daddy.

I mean if my choices are disband one of football or basketball, or disband every other sport at the University other than football and basketball - I'm taking the latter 100 times out of 100. They're the only ones that are self-sustaining and don't lose money.

Those are two pretty nihilistic (or is it existential?) choices lol.

I would have no problem with Kiffin or Leach, but I just can't see those hires being allowed to happen at UNC. What are your thoughts on Sumlin?

I tend to agree, but I also think the hires would be OK'd because neither brings any recent NCAA sanction baggage with them. While Leach's silly presser rants are just that, silly, it's not like they're controversial or something, so that would be fine with the overall campus community. And though Kiffin is a dick, he doesn't bring any NCAA sanction baggage, either. He's also familiar with the area, having grown up in Raleigh.

As for Sumlin, I cannot express how strongly I think he SUCKS as a head coach. To me, he's the most overrated P5 coach (well until he was fired). He won at Houston with future NFLer Case Keenum, whom he didn't recruit. And his only serious winning at A&M came with Manziel, whom he didn't recruit. He also pissed off basically every big money booster Texas A&M has. I think he's a vastly, vastly, overrated coach. Doeren is a better coach than Sumlin.

Even though I think Kiffin is kind of a dink, I'd love that hire. I'd have to figure he'll get more "prestigious" coaching offers than UNC though, right?

Charlie Strong would be a great hire.
What is a dink? Is that similar to a twink? Lol. And yes, Kiffin will get better offers than UNC, but will he get them THIS cycle? UCLA is filled, Florida is filled, A&M reportedly going to be filled by Jimo. Tennessee and him won't reunite. Florida State would be the logical choice, but I don't know if their fanbase would go for that hire or not.

And yes, Charlie Strong would kill at UNC. Sorry if this is insensitive to anyone, but black people LOVE UNC and love Carolina Blue and basically want any excuse to play for UNC in hoops or football. Charlie Strong would recruit like wildfire here. And he would have to do so because he's kinda like Butch Davis: never gonna out-coach you, but he can out-talent the hell out of you and win that way.
