OOTB Carolina football discussion thread

good…he should energize the program and nil.

do you think romo has gotten worse?

speaking of buffalo…wow.
Funny u should say that. He sounded strange like he was maybe sick or something and didn’t have the usual energy. I sensed some favoritism for the bills as well although that didn’t bother me as I despise the lions.

crazy, huh…just goes to show there really is no “salary cap” in the nfl.
Disagree. They still have to carry that dead space against the cap which is part of the reason some teams are perennially successful versus other teams that are always in cap jail. Denver is "lucky" their qb is on a rookie contract.

it’s fungible…teams avoid “cap hell” many different ways…one popular way is to add voided years on the back end so they lengthen the time of the deal knowing full well that the player will either be released or retired…dead money is a thing, but orgs act like it’s a prison that prevents you from adding players via free agency or trade.

look at what the rams are doing…”fuk them picks” went all-in to get stafford a ring…they haven’t suffered at all.

and true, the best way to win a sb is with a qb on a rookie contract…that or have mahomes.

Agree that there are all kind of strategies to deal with it, soften the blow, or stretch it out. My only point was that it does have to be accounted for versus something like baseball where the Yanks or Dodgers just dip into their network/merchandise money and say F the luxury tax, we'll sign whoever we want. It's one of the actual good things about the NFL. Theoretically, the cowboys, cardinals, jets, and squealers are all the same in terms of the potential to put a product on the field.

still can’t believe that
the business side of sports is of no interest to me, except for the fact that what pro players are paid is beyond ridiculous. That alone takes away much of my interest in pro sport itself. Now that is starting to be the same with college sports. What a shame. I'm glad to be old enough to have been around when some sanity was still present and outside commercial interests weren't in control..

concerning? It's downright scary. It's like fighting sleep because you think you're going to have nightmares, and when you wake up the nightmare will still be there. It's insane to see something you've enjoyed and participated in for a good many years start to unravel and reform into something ugly in such a short time.

What they're talking about is hard to wrap your head around as becoming reality.

i hate it, i blame jerry for this among other things…it’s an 8-8 league, literally.

oh, how it warms the cockles to see cowgirl fans commiserate. And I'm not even sure what a cockle is, but that's OK because I don't know what commiserate means either. Will you excuse me? I'm just trying to find the thesaurus. Has anybody seen the thesaurus? Please, @strummingram, have you seen the thesaurus? I ain't seen the thesaurus. Where's that confounded thesaurus?

Wait, what thread is this?

Blaming Jerry is not an irresponsible thing to do with just about anything. Especially for a 'boys guy. But, the parity and ability to go from the bottom to the top from season to season is part of the league's appeal.

'merica.

problem is it isn’t that easy and if your owner doesn't care, most don’t, it’s a hamster wheel.

as for parity, i read a stat last week or so iirc…something like more teams closer to 3 wins than ever this late in the season and more teams have clinched a playoff spot this early than ever.

Uga vs notre dame. I hate em both. But I’m impressed as fuk with the fact that with both teams, every play, no flexing, no jawing, no pushing and shoving after the whistle, just knocking the shit outta each other then going to the huddle. Couple of class programs I gotta admit.

yeah, i’ve been impressed by the physicality for the entire playoff.

the nd defense is really good, especially up front…44 and oben look like they have rocket fuel in them…they cannot block those dudes.

It's a sad, sad, sad state of affairs when I actually have to chose who I want to win between ND and PSU. Of course, one of them gets to go to the championship game, so I can only hope that the "winner" of the semi gets utterly embarrassed in the finale.

You can't possibly be rooting for OSU. I detest OSU. Let's go Golden Domers.

On another note, 3 of the final four teams have some of the best uniforms in football. PSU's are the absolute classics. ND's are fantastic and UT's are not top tier but they're close.

That was a masterful performance by Notre Dame. It completely stunned me. Hard to believe that ND could match UGa's speed. And ND wore down UGa throughout the game whereas I predicted the opposite. Loved seeing Kirby get outcoached too. Not gonna lie, I've enjoyed the mighty SEC taking it on the chin this postseason.

that's tOSU...and don't you forget it. I know I'm not the only one who has noted the shift this post-season from southern FB dominance to the northren kind. I can't pull for any of them but if I'm going to pull against them, I'll usually pull hardest against ND....but I have to admit, I like their coach. So I might have to make an exception in this case. It really doesn't matter anyway because beginning next season, it's All UNC, ALL THE TIME.

At this point, it's more about who I am rooting against and ranking them on that scale. It's also an issue of the brackets and who I think can beat ND/PSU in the championship. I'd probably pull for Texas at this point, but I must admit that I think tOSU is the more come complete team.

I managed to borrow this from a premium thread without having subscribed. If it isn't appropriate to post it here, please delete it or ask me to. It's just that I love it so much I can't help wanting to share it.

It has been the most shameful waste of golden opportunity to not elevate Carolina football to the top of the heap, and I still have to hope that it might happen.

I'd be ok if we left out the guy who likes to sleep with underage girls.

you mean the guy who procured a 'date' with an underage girl who admittedly lied about her age after, according to her, being asked for a drivers license by the accused? The guy who attempted to verify his 'date' as being of age so that he would NOT sleep with an underage girl? I'm not sure that qualifies as 'liking' to sleep with underage girls in the minds of the reasonable but if that's what satisfies your need to hate on something, then knock yourself out.

For my part, many years ago I learned 1) to not jump to conclusions when relevant information was lacking and 2) to not be unnecessarily judgmental to begin with. You know, just as the Bible instructs us. You are familiar with the Bible aren't you? I have to assume that anyone who has tasked himself with judging the good and the evil in people would know it cover to cover.

But you be you and while you're busy doing that, I'll proudly display a Tar Heel hero of mine, one who is almost inarguably the greatest defensive football player of all time, maybe even just the greatest player period.

ps....don't forget to crucify Michael Jordan, he also did things he shouldn't have. And don't forget to include everyone who ever lived. You better get busy.

Yeah, I'm sure he had no idea. Him and the other thousand people who get caught shockingly had no clue.

It's sad an athlete is your hero, much less one who sleeps with underage girls. That does explain why you're able to overlook him being a shit person.

Yeah gambling and cheating on your wife is definitely the same thing as what LT did.

I see that your argument here is based on maintaining your ignorance. If you bothered to actually inform yourself, you'd know that the original charge of statutory rape against him was broken down to something lesser due to the fact that he was able to show that she did in fact falsely present herself as being of age (she was 16 but said she was 19); and there was a third party witness to that. He did try to ascertain her actual age before proceeding with the festivities.

This happened in NY, where the age of consent is 17. It probably doesn't matter to you that unless they changed it, the age of consent in NC is 16...so if he had engaged her here, he wouldn't have been in trouble at all and you wouldn't have any excuse to needlessly hate somebody.

With the lesser charge (engaging with a prostitute), basically he was guilty of cheating on his wife. You seem to be OK with that. Strange sense of morality, IYAM.

I'm familiar with the facts already. If you want to believe him, that's fine. He said the same thing they all say. I'm over discussing it.

so, you're saying let's let this hinge not on facts but on what you choose to believe and just ignore what the authorities in question said they believed and acted on? And just ignore what is amply reported as having actually been the case? I'd be through discussing it too if I were you, cause you ain't selling that irrational, misinformed and misguided hate to me.

But thanks for pointing out how crazy it is of me to paint former players of our school as heroes in, of all places, a sports message board dedicated to...our school. Geez, what was I thinking?
