OOTB Celebrity Death Pool

Can keep up to 3 names, but dont have to, right?

And if you keep up to 3, then they replace your picks in the first 3 rounds of the new draft. But if you have to declare before draft starts who you are keeping.

Sure. Up to 3 works fine for me. So if I keep 3, I won't get a pick in rounds 1-3 next time around. If you keep 2, you won't pick in rounds 1 and 2 but will have a 3rd round pick which I won't, etc. So we're at 9 now with RH. if no one else joins in the next half hour or so to make it an even 10 - I'll draw the order with these 9.

Hold on- give it til Monday morning. @UNC '92 might want in, as well as a few others. I would guess everyone will be checking the board soon with Dook on Sat, so we can send out notifications to those we think of that might want to play.

Not everyone has a job with unlimited posting ability. In other words, someone needs to make this shitty economy go while we f*(& off

Sick. I'm in!

Good thinking, we'll hold off til Monday morning to close the registration and pick the order - then do the draft over the following day or so. Just didn't want people getting too antsy. With '92 we're at 10 participants. If we start to get more than that, we may want to consider dropping each poaster's list to 8 names or something, just so we've all heard of pretty much everyone picked.

You'll have to forgive me for not reading this entire thread carefully, but could we work with only 3 names per poaster? Wouldn't that speed up the selection process? Or is that too few potential decedents to ensure one of them dies soon?

That would definitely speed up the selection process, but it would also slow down the winning process. We'd have a field of 30 potential decadents instead of 100 which would probably make each round last about 3 times as long. I'm fine with whatever everyone else wants to do in terms of # of selections.

Also, if we wanted to speed the drafting part up a little bit, we could have people make 2 or 3 selections at the same time. So if we're each picking 8 names, and pick 2 at a time, we'd only have to sit through 4 drafting rounds as opposed to 10 drafting rounds if we're doing 10 names each, 1 at a time.

How about the first 3 rounds are singles and the next 3 are doubles- that would give us 9 each.

Double picks in the first round would suck if you were on the low side.

Perfect. That actually helps balance out the draft positions as well, because those picking at the end of the 1st and 3rd rounds will pick in the beginning of the 4th and 6th (when they'll be making double picks)

Can we get bonus points for guessing correctly how the celebrity passes?

Well, possibly, but not at first. We are trying to keep it simple for now. If it works out, then you and Heelman can be responsible for devising the bonus system.

It's $10 to enter. Or if you send me your last can of Crystal Pepsi, I will float your entry fee for you. Then when that tragic time does come that a celebrity passes, we will mourn that person. Once the wake is over, whoever had picked that person wins the whole pot and we do it all over again.

Sure. Bonus points for correctly guessing how they pass, or by correctly selecting a person under 60 years old, or by correctly selecting someone who offs themselves.

However these bonus points will be non-monetary in nature. And, since it seems to be generally accepted around here that "likes" are the unofficial currency of OOTB, we'll just have all the poasters go back and retroactively "like" your poast with the correct guess, as a form of bonus payment.

I'll go with $10. My lone bottle of Crystal Pepsi is off limits, thank you.

I'm in. team name dead and bloated. Obviously heroin addicts will be given extra weight on this team.

So do you guys like research people to see who is terminally ill or just go with people like Justin Beiber, Coach K, Obama, and Johnny Football?

They have to be in relatively good health. You can't pick someone with stage 4 cancer or anything like that.

Hell yes you can. Hark said he has Stephen Hawking in his other pool.

This is kind of a gray area I guess. At least the way I do it in my other pool is people like Hawking and Muhammed Ali are fair game (they've been living with their problems for awhile, and could conceivably live awhile longer I guess). However if someone is in hospice, or life support, or something like that, that takes them out of the running in my other pool. But that part can be open to discussion.

This is the other avenue besides going all old people. People who are involved with drugs and that type of lifestyle, as well as people that could be popular assassination targets (political/religious leaders and candidates) can be good picks as well (and more impressive if you hit those). Which is why caveats of only a certain amount of your picks being able to be over 90 years old or something like that has been discussed.

We'll start of with no limits on old people, but with now 11 participants (I see you plm), at 9 picks each, we'll have 99 candidates. If they're all over 90 years old we may be drafting quite often, and may need to start putting limits in.

I agree- lets keep it simple. Any celebrity is draftable. The definition of celebrity has to be someone that the majority knows of for some reason. If somebody wants to draft their middle school math teacher who won numerous awards for service to the state of Tennessee- nope. If someone wants to draft Holden Thorpe, then ok, even though Thorpe is hardly a celebrity to anyone other than Carolina (and Moo of course).

Its kinda like the definition of pron- we will know it when we see it.
