OOTB Chain Restaurants Tourney: The Matt Harvey Region, Presented by Durex

Since @TarHeelNation11 has apparently succumbed to STDs contracted from banging all those 7s, I'm pleased to announce the first round's winners in his stead.

#1 Chick-fil-A vs. #16 Maggiano's Little Italy
As you might expect in a 1/16 contest, this one wasn't much of a fight. Chick-fil-A advances with an easy 16-2 win.

#8 Dairy Queen vs. #9 T.G.I Friday's
This was a game of runs: 4 straight for DQ followed by 3 straight for TGIF, but DQ scored the final 4 points of the contest to come from behind and win 10-8.

#5 Buffalo Wild Wings vs. #12 Sonic Drive-In
Sonic was clearly outmatched here but put up a good fight, trailing only 6-4 at halftime. BWW opened the second half on a decisive 6-0 run and won going away, 13-5.

#4 Burger King vs. #13 O'Charley's
Oh how the mighty have fallen. O'Charley's opened the game on a 7-0 run. BK never recovered from being punched in the mouth, losing his crown in a stunning 13-5 upset.

#6 LongHorn Steakhouse vs. #11 Moe's
Another hotly contested contest. These two were tied at 8 apiece heading into the final minutes, but lockdown defense from Longhorn helped them eek out a 10-8 victory.

#3 Olive Garden vs. #14 Baskin-Robbins
Baskin-Robbins scored the game's first point, then got summarily destroyed by a 11-0 run from Olive Garden that left no doubt. 15-3 final score.

#7 Papa John's Pizza vs. #10 IHOP
IHOP battled valiantly, but Papa John's opened and closed the game with strong runs to take the 11-7 victory.

#2 Jimmy John's vs. #15 Dickey's Barbecue Pit
With Dicky's leading 8-4 midway through the second half, it looked like we were going to experience the most shocking upset of the tournament so far. That's when Jimmy John's went to work. With incredible offensive precision and a defensive effort for the ages, the sub chain scored the game's last 6 points to win 10-8.

Of great concern is that the contest moderator called this matchup a tie when in fact the final vote only cemented the victory for JJ's.* This could potentially call into question the outcome of the other closely contested games in the tournament so far, but of course that would mean someone going back to validate the results. I call not it.

* Final Vote Count

Jimmy John's (10):
@BillyL, @UNC '92, @grillheel, @tarheel0910, @Hark_The_Sound_2010, @toophly1124, @HEELS1984, @JuleZ '02 HEEL, @tazki, @ohio tarheels

Dickey's (8):

On the basis of the arguments presented in this thread, I will officially change my vote from JJ's to Dickey's BBQ Pit. (And I will try to eat at one sometime.)
I'm not trying to complicate things, but this poast may change the results for the JJ's/Dickey's bracket. I really don't much care how the vote goes, considering I've never eaten at either place, but I think this does, in fact, tie the score. Sorry, RH; I really do appreciate you tallying things up.

This confirms what I suspected all along. RH has once again been doing @TarHeelNation11's homework behind the scenes and letting him take the credit.

I fundamentally disagree with changing votes to break ties. Motion denied.

****. Sorry guys. I've been in Warsaw all weekend without access to a computer (and **** doing this on my phone) and got back late last night. I've gone back and counted everything from the first three regions and all the math is right. I'll get on this one later today and fix it. And I'll figure out the JJ / Dickeys debacle.

And I'll get up the round of 32 matchups later today. TIA for your patience, and to those who haven't been patient, GFY.

We have our winners. See below.

The Matt Harvey Region, Presented by Durex

#1 Chick-fil-A vs. #16 Maggiano's Little Italy
-- A total snooze fest in round one for heavyweight Chick-fil-A. They amused themselves and let MLI score a few points, in the same manner a lion lets his prey squirm for a little before ripping out its jugular. Game, Chikins.

#8 Dairy Queen vs. #9 T.G.I Friday's
-- This 8/9 matchup proved to be a good one, as it was a see-saw affair. Despite jeers from the crowd that Dairy Queen "isn't a real team," The Dee-Queezies managed to wrestle this one away from T.G.I. Friday's. The game was played on a Saturday, so TGIF was all confused.

#5 Buffalo Wild Wings vs. #12 Sonic Drive-In
-- No 12-over-5 nonsense in this one. Buffalo Wild Wings put in a strong showing and has to like its chances after seeing the results in the 4vs.13 game....

#4 Burger King vs. #13 O'Charley's
-- A resounding upset for the 13th-seeded Southern sit-down chain. Burger King was an eyesore even from the opening tip, as they decided to sport the old short shorts and rec specs. The crowd realized what they thought they loved about Burger King was just warped nostalgia of a time when fast food sucked.

#6 LongHorn Steakhouse vs. #11 Moe's
-- Atlanta-founded Moe's looked primed to pull the upset, but also-Atlanta-founded Longhorn took a late lead and held on to sneak in to the next round.

#3 Olive Garden vs. #14 Baskin-Robbins
-- Team leaders Giancarlo Corsetti, Gianluigi Morelli, and Tony Delvecchio combined for 78 points and two full bottles of hair gel as Olive Garden whacked Baskin-Robbins to cruise through to the Round of 32.

#7 Papa John's Pizza vs. #10 IHOP
-- This one was closer than the experts expected, but PJP held off the second-rate breakfast chain.

#2 Jimmy John's vs. #15 Dickey's Barbecue Pit
-- What's a tournament without a little controversy? Dickey's shocked the world to take a commanding 25-point lead over heavily-favored #2 Jimmy Johns's, but then promptly shocked the world again by blowing the lead and heading to overtime. After overtime was inconclusive and a tie could not be broken, Congress met but couldn't decide on a winner. Finally, the decision was made to kick it back to head of the selection committee, and after weighing all factors including taste tests and bribes from both sides, it has been decided based upon the passionate arguments for the BBQ chain in this thread....

Dickey's scores your rare 15-over-2 upset and is moving on to the next round! The band is out on the field!
