Hey guys, so I have been thinking about this a little bit lately. There was some mention after we finished the TV tournament about trying the movie tournament again but I would run it because I think we all agree, outcomes aside, that the TV tournament ran pretty smoothly. So this is basically to see if you guys are interested in having a legit movie tournament or not.

If you are, there are three options I have for seeding because I'm not sure exactly the best way to tackle it. So read these and then decide. (Each of these options would still seed by a variation of the seeding formula I used for the TV Tournament that I will go into if we actually do the tournament. Also, each of these options include that there would be a new "One Shining Moment" video upon completion of the tournament as there was for the TV Tournament.)

Option A: Regions would be pretty similar to the TV Tournament, divided by genre. We could either do half drama and half comedy, or get slightly more specific and have ones closer to the tv tournament like one region drama, one region comedy, one region animation, and then one hodgepodge region.

Option B: Regions would be divided by era in which they came out. One region would be 2000-now, one region 1980-1999, one region 1960-1979, and one region pre 1960. This would have a mix of genres, but would be still organized by similar styles and such.

Option C: Free for all. The top 64 movies make the tournament and are seeded solely based on the aforementioned formula.

So that's basically it, vote in the poll to let me know if you are interested.

I vote free for all. Let chaos reign. Looking forward to see what terrible old movie y'all vote the winner. I'm guessing a Final Four of:

- The Sound of Music
- Field of Dreams
- Blazing Saddles
- Angels with Filthy Souls

Those are all good choices. If Angels with Filthy Souls actually existed outside of Home Alone, I might vote for it

Completely unrelated, but am I the only one irritated by gifs with subtitles, but the person doesn't actually finish saying what's in the subtitle? Like, in this one, he says "I've got a bad feeling about this," but in the gif, it looks like he's saying "bad feeling ab..." It gets me every time.
That's a little petty.

But yeah, you're right.

Strike two.
I was deliberately waiting until after Thanksgiving because I figured that would be a busy time for everyone and didn't think that would be ideal for poasting nominees. I'm trying to give everyone a fair shot. Don't worry, I haven't forgotten this.

Ok, so I'm going to poast the nomination threads tomorrow, but this is the overview of the whole tournament. I'm going to copy this for each of the nomination threads as well. So here we go!

THE REGIONS

  1. Michael Corleone Region: Michael Corleone region will include 16 movies that would be considered dramas (such as Casablanca, Forrest Gump), epics (Gone with the Wind, Gladiator), war movies (Apocalypse Now, Saving Private Ryan), or crime movies (The Godfather, Goodfellas).
  2. The Dude Region: The Dude region will include 16 movies that would be considered comedies (Blazing Saddles, Anchorman), animated movies (Aladdin, Up), or musicals (The Wizard of Oz, La La Land).
  3. John McClane Region: John McClane region will include 16 movies that would be considered action movies (Die Hard, The Dark Knight), adventure movies (Raiders of the Lost Ark, Pirates of the Caribbean), or westerns (True Grit, Unforgiven).
  4. Han Solo Region: Han Solo region will include 16 movies that would be considered science fiction movies (Star Wars, The Matrix), fantasy movies (The Princess Bride, The Fellowship of the Ring), and horror movies (Psycho, Get Out).
The winners of the Michael Corleone and John McClane regions will meet in one half of the Final Four, while the winners of the Han Solo and The Dude regions will meet in the other half.

SELECTING MOVIES

  1. There will be a thread to nominate movies for each region. There will be a 48 hour period to nominate movies in that given category.
  2. The 16 movies that receive the most nominations will be chosen to participate as the representatives for that region.
  3. In the event of a tie in the nomination process, the movies that advance will do so following the seeding procedures I'm listing in the next section.
  4. When nominating movies that are part of a series or franchise, you must nominate every movie in that franchise that you believe deserves consideration. So don’t nominate “James Bond,” if you are only voting for “Goldfinger.” Franchise titles won’t be counted, only specific movies.

SEEDING MOVIES

  1. The first determining factor for seeds will be based on the popular vote during the nomination process.
  2. If two or more movies are tied in votes, we will proceed to a tie breaking formula which weighs the movies based on Oscar awards/nominations, IMDB rating, and Rotten Tomatoes score.
  3. If they were to still be tied after that, there would be a coin flip to determine the one that advances.
ONCE THE BRACKET IS SET

  1. There will be a thread for each region round by round. There will be a 48 hour period in which you vote for all the matchups in that region for that round. The winners will advance, the losers are eliminated. We will proceed in this matter until one movie is ultimately declared the champion of the inaugural OOTB Movie Tournament.

Where would sports movies fit in these categories? (Hoosiers, Rudy)
I kind of left it open to interpretation because I would say something like Caddyshack or Slap Shot is a comedy while the two you mentioned are more dramas in my book. So it's kind of case by case.
