Been reading through this monstrosity and want to add that the fastest pitcher I ever faced that I know of was Mickey Britt who played at South View in Hope Mills and made it to AAA in the Padres organization, IIRC. Dude hit 99/100 miles an hour and the damn ball looked like a BB. He was wild enough to never make the show and that alone would keep you far enough off the plate that anything outside was impossible to hit. He no-hit me for his career, lol. Heck, I looked like John Kruck...swinging and falling back at the same time.
The absolute BEST pitcher I ever got a hit off of was Calvin Koonce who was coaching South View at the time and later coached at Campbell. He pitched for the Mets in the '69 World Series. Dude had a curve that literally looked like it fell off a table, but I guessed right one time and doubled that nasty witch off the wall in a scrimmage at a camp at Brewton-Parker College when I was 17. Yea, I still crow about it.
