Chief among them? Normalizing denying election results or crying fraud before and/or after. A huge chunk of the GOP candidates running in battleground states either have refused to say Biden is President or outright endorse that he didn't win. And I hope every single one of them loses. There has been no evidence of the kind of conspiracy needed to swing an American Presidential election from one person to another. We all have to accept that our side loses sometimes and that's okay.
If the election was held exactly as it had been every other Presidential election, Trump would have won. I think even you believe that. The Dems created enough fear and hysteria over the pandemic to scare everybody into accepting changes to the election process.
This one goes both ways but MAGA endorses grievance culture as much as left wing progressives. This whole idea 'things are so much worse now, things were better back in the day'. Or the idea that Democrats are 'coming for your guns'. Maybe it's the trannies coming to convert your kids at an elementary school. Or that the military is going soft because it ran a diversity ad. It's all pearl clutching and fear mongering. It's the worship of ignorance over reason.
Things are good? There is hard core evidence that things are worse. Yes, back in my day of 2019, inflation was much better. Back in my day of 2019, gas was affordable. Back in my day, the US was the top dog. We ran the world and when we said "jump", other countries asked "how high". I liked it that way. Most people liked it that way even if they wouldn't want to admit it. I don't give a shit if other countries like us. I want them to respect and fear us. F*ck all that kum-bah-yah shit.
Divisiveness. Dems and GOPers have been sniping at each other for decades but Trump truly pushed it to a whole new level. Trump called civil servants 'sick people' when issuing an executive order stripping them of job protections as one example. He uses this kind of intense hyperbole to play into people's fears and resentments. He played footsies with the Proud Boys. There isn't a line he won't cross. My father once supported Trump and has since disavowed supporting him again for the simple fact "he has ability but no ethics." I do not want the walking embodiment of a narcissistic movement in power.
Did Trump invite the Proud Boys to the White House like Obama did with BLM? No? Is that not cozying up?
Trump himself is not a pious man, nor religious. But he enables those that are militantly so. He enables those who believe and spread conspiracy theories. He enables people looking for a fight. Many MAGA types are just plain crazy when it comes to enforcing what they see as 'Christian values' or eliminating any distinction between freedom of religion and freedom from the dogma the Christian right often wish to instill in public life.
Roughly 65% of America subscribes to Christianity. Why would a President not support the dominant religion while also acknowledging the freedom to worship whatever you want? That number used to be 90% by the way. As recently as the 1990s. What else was happening in the 1990s? Oh that's right, we were experiencing the greatest decade of the country's history.
