Overly Sensitive People

It makes our university look like academics who don't know a thing about what takes place outside of a college campus, but whatevs. Also, can we drop the damn -CH from our official University stuff? It doesn't bother me when Moo does it, but it's annoying when UNC does it. You don't need the -CH. Everyone knows.

Michigan doesn't refer to themselves as Michigan-Ann Arbor.

I'll make sure to mention that next time I have lunch with Carol.

Once again, we differ in opinion. The CH is our thing - just like The Ohio State University is OSU's thing. Just like "The U" is Miami's thing. If we get rid of it, we don't have a thing. I like anything that makes Carolina stand out from the rest. Plus, it makes it more elitist, which of course, I love.

I don't really care if the CH is used or not, but I don't think it's comparable to the two you mentioned. "The" Ohio State and "The U" are things that are known nationally to fan bases outside of their own. No one outside of UNC's fan base, other than ACC teams, know anything about the CH thing. It's not part of the national brand.

Well then I advocate for increasing its usage so it becomes known nationally.

It's not "our thing." It's a byproduct of overlapping and confusing naming of the UNC system versus UNC, the university. Furthermore, it stems from all of the UNC-alphabet schools in the UNC system. That's not common in every state. For instance, in Georgia, schools in the University of Georgia system are Valdosta State, Albany State, Georgia Tech, Kennesaw State, etc. It's not UGA-Valdosta, UGA-Kennesaw, etc.

But, everyone and their sister knows if you say "UNC," you mean the university in Chapel Hill. I, for one, do not like the -CH inclusion.

Our "thing" is kicking ass, not having a little "CH" at the end of UNC.

.

Wait what?...what does the University of Northern Colorado have to do with any of this? Weird.

Not sure what's worse. The fact that you took the time to do it or the fact that it's supposed to be UNC-CH, not UNCCH. If you're going to make us look stupid, at least do it correctly.

You're not a fan of it and didn't want it at all so your opinion on this matter is moot.

The fact that this is news makes my brain hurt. Newscasters get to grandstand and say "OMG, how DARE he write sexually explicit or homophobic remarks on his Twitter when he was a teenager."

Yeah..... okay bud. Let's go back and dictate your happenings as a teenager, or now, and see how "pure" you look. It's so amusing to me that journalists all act like they're the nation's moral compass.

Following, as in aware that it's being discussed, yes. Was anybody really unaware that pretty much every character on the Simpsons is a stereotype/caricature?
I think everyone was aware, but apparently it's become a huge problem in the last year or so. I'm just glad that they decided to give a big **** you episode to everyone that was complaining.

I fail to see the problem. He's Indian or Pakistani and runs a gas station. So.... you know, every fuggin gas station in the country.

You can go to the most remote, backwoods town you can find, and if it's a brand name gas station (BP, Shell, etc etc., it's 75% likely the dude running it is Indian). I've been to gas stations in such mega cities as Montezuma, Ga., and Hahira, Ga., and Sparta, Ga., and all had Indian guys running the gas station.

And they have been making fun of that stereotype that people give him since the introduction of the character. In other words, they have been making fun of you for 30 years. Now all of a sudden it's a problem? And one thing I would like to know. Apu is considered one of the smartest characters on the show and he has a mathematics degree. Why isn't anyone complaining about that stereotype?

ETA: The best part of the episode was that they used Lisa to deliver the message. The one person that they think would care tells them to shut up.

Well, no. But now we were notified that we should be offended, so we are.
Only about certain characters though. It's still ok to portray a white cop as a fat lazy guy who doesn't do anything but eat doughnuts and has the look of a pig. Or the white guy from the country being an inbred, dumb hick. Those things are still funny.

Well ya of course. The white guys didn't make it onto the 2018 protected species list like the Indians did. Better luck next year.
