Prayers for Charlottesville

Vice mayor of Charlotteville folks change his color and see how these tweets workout?

Yup. It's blatantly racist and discriminatory. For whatever reason, those that call out the racists don't feel the need to call him out, or are fearful of doing so.

It's this double standard and lack of reason that got Trump elected. Hope everyone that is one sided on fighting back against discrimination is happy about what they've done, and the guy they put in the White House.

Don't use 'fake news' as a counter argument. It comes off as lazy, and you're smarter than that.
No, you just don't like it bc you know it's fake news. Why go into great detail when two words will summarize it? Lazy? Maybe. Accurate? Definitely.

Too many people use that term to dismiss what they don't agree with or like. Nothing to do with accuracy.
It's one of the worst casualties of Trump's entire ccandidacy and administration. The notion of "alternate facts" and "fake news" seems like a new way to cast subterfuge on truth. It's yet another invention of the human race to conceal, or even resist, its own shame.

This isn't new to Trump. He may be the loudest about it, but he is far from the first.

I think it's more damaging coming from the President. It's not merely criticizing CNN or NBC for click bait or sensationalism. It's that he's attacking anyone who criticizes him as 'fake news'. That's unsettling.
Obama did similar things to media outlets that weren't friendly to him. He wasn't as loud about it as Trump, but he did do it. I'm just trying to point out that it's not limited to Trump. He's just the loudest to do so.

I forgot who it was who said it (Mike Huckabee, maybe), but someone said that Trump could've been in the middle of the road with a .44 Magnum and put a bullet through the head of the driver to stop him and would still have been criticized for not doing enough. They were right.

I freely admit there were more than enough on "my" side who felt the same way about Obama, too. Even on the rare occasion I thought Obama did something right, he was still criticized. That is part of the job, but for some reason people have taken it to a new level with Trump, even on the GOP side.

Regardless, removing statues and monuments won't do anything to calm racial tensions, it will only make it worse. To me, the best way to make sure we don't repeat the same mistakes of the past is to remember them, painful as they may be. Remove them from history and it won't be long before the same thing happens all over again and people will wonder why.

As for the idiots, best thing all of us can do is ignore they exist. On both sides. Antifa, BLM, neo-Nazis, KKK, the whole damn bunch of them. If they want to protest, file the paperwork and protest away. Get out of line, riot, cause problems for other peaceful protesters and I say arrest them all. But don't cover the events, don't show up to counter protest, don't give them the time of day. If they do something stupid, report about how much shiite they will be in when they get carted off to prison, but don't glorify what they do.

The moron who killed the lady and hurt the others will get his day in court. He will go to prison and within 5 years he will get a shiv and will become an afterthought. But those who were there doing whatever they could to fan the flames of racial tension and provoke a bad response from the other side are just as guilty in my book. ALL of them.

First hand detailed account by a person that was supposed to speak at the legally permitted rally:

dailycaller.com/2017/08/14/heres-how-the-virginia-state-police-provoked-violence-at-charlottesville/

This is a right leaning site, but this is not an opinion piece. The reporter that's quoted is the one that posted that the alt to fight was being attacked as they were led from the park. The chemicals the police chief referenced is the pepper spray I mentioned.
www.dailywire.com/news/19708/charlottesville-police-chief-there-were-mutually-frank-camp
The article cited says the alt-right members were asked to come in through the back of the park, where the police were stationed, but instead came in from all directions. I watched some of them forcefully push through a group of counter-protesters that included a church group that had interlocked their arms.

Look, I don't really care who "started it." That's grade-school nonsense. My issue is with your characterization of the events, as if the alt-right members were perfect little angels and the antifa members instigated the whole thing. There was enough stupidity to go around.

"As an attendee of the Unite The Right rally and scheduled speaker..."

Nope. Won't read a word of whatever he has to say because he's an unreliable narrator. However, I'm guessing his criticism is that the police failed to intervene in a timely manner to stop the violence. That was absolutely true. They stood down and let opposing sides throw projectiles at each other, mace each other, and get into fistfights. They should've stopped it right there.

When the state of emergency was declared, the police were actually told to leave the scene. WTH?

This is the kind of hyperbole that only exacerbates the problem, IMO.

White redneck dumbasses protest and violance breaks out and it is domestic terrorism, but BLM does it and it is an oppressed group that has the right to do so because of what happened to them 100 years ago?

This was terrible racism is an ugly thing and it turns my stomach to know that our America is an petty as to hate a man because of the color of this or her skin color, but the double standard is just a sickening!

Wow. Just wow. How does this guy hold a public office?

ETA: Either he has deleted these tweets or they were fabricated. They're no longer on his Twitter account.

and he can't distance himself...does not matter what he says or does.

Yep, he can try, eventually his TrueTrump colors show, his PC @ Trump Tower today was epic . . an effort that likely will elevate his 34% approval rating ( LOL )

Yes, and that's what's a shame. No matter what he says or does, it doesn't matter. People have their opinion of him, and they're sticking to it - facts be damned. Which is really sad - I see people (on here, and elsewhere) that seem like reasonably intelligent people, that just bury their heads in the sand and go along with any anti-trump rhetoric (or cartoons) they can find.

I've pointed out numerous times that I think Trump is a dope. But how he can get in trouble for someone else tweeting their support of him is beyond me. If ISIS tweeted support of Obama, does that mean that he's an Islamic Terrorist because the Islamic Terrorists support him? How would you and Billy have responded to that? If David Duke were smart he'd just tweet support of whatever candidates he didn't want to win next election, if everyone is going to brand those people white supremacists. Or, would it not work the same way if he tweeted support of Hillary?

dude, obama was found guilty on here of being a card carrying member when he moved in...for eight years i had to read that he was anti-american.

this fool is retweeting white nationalist tweets after the riot.

The problem has already been exacerbated to the nth degree. The only way to stop the madness is to ignore it.

One of the key divisions in this country at the moment is the one where one side wants everyone to be offended/upset/angry about everything and one side wants to focus on things that don't concern peoples feelings.

I am on the side that doesn't GAFabout feelings.

Want to make a bet on the 2020 election?

He cannot distance himself from people who have hated him since the get go. You are correct.

The rest of us who worry about jobs and national security and the stock market (I remember when some of the pro Obama bunch on here used to love to tout market performance) really don't give a damn.

Remember Obama and Jerimiah Wright? They weren't too concerned about that.

Strum is right that the 2 party system turns politics into the equivalent of a sporting event. However Trump IMO still doesn't follow any particular party doctrine and for that reason alone, he will always have my support, even when he does something stupid.

That and I'm not about to abandon the horse that won me 4 figures.

like obama

who isn't concerned about those three?

I disagree. The only way to stop it is to name it for what it is: madness. Picking sides is a zero sum game where everyone is pissed off all the time.

I agree. I am not picking a side in the war of the hard left vs the hard right. I don't care.

Some folks just caught onto him earlier than others . . looks to me as if he's losing support, rather than gaining any.

I forgot that you never wish to back up what you say with a bet.

I can't make a statement without having to 'cover' a fvcking bet about it . . ?

I lost and paid $20 to bleeduncblue over the election. Get your fax right before throwing your BS out there . .

Sorry- I have bleed on ignore.

You can make whatever statement you want. You should also get used to Trump through January 20, 2025

I heard Hannity yesterday broadcast a "medley" of Trump vehemently, directly, verbally rebuking, denouncing, and saying "I do not align with these people and don't want their support" (paraphrased). So, he has said he's not on their "team." I don't think Donald Trump is a white supremacist at all. I sure hope not. I'd find that hard to believe with a Jewish son-in-law and Jewish-converted daughter.

Trump is an opportunist, not a racist.
