Pretty sure he made part of our game tonight. He was at the State game earlier, he got to see them get beat down by Michigan. Then he got to see us pull it out against the #2 team in the nation. Can't hurt our cause.

The dean dome was rocking too, hopefully he enjoyed the atmosphere
Pretty sure it was rocking as loud as its been in a couple years. A home game where we're really good, but facing a top two team against an old blood rival. I think it was likely insane loud at the beginning and end

Couldn't have said it better myself.

Yeah the Dome was very very loud tonight, very cool to see. The crowd gets up for these games and they love Marcus

I was in the risers tonight! The dome was a rocking front to back especially when SillyMan got the ball. Marcus was a breath of fresh air. Also got a shoutout to Rawle at the end of the game, he was sitting behind the bench. Barnes and McAdoo made the trip and J Cole was sitting courtside. Huge win tonight

Crash course on J. Cole. Rapper from Fayetteville, NC. Last album went platinum with no features. On par with Drake and Kendrick Lamar as one of the best rappers in hip hop today.

You should all like J Cole, one of his lines is: "Brother you're lame you're Shane Battier"

Nice to see Drake get love and no one jump down your throat.

I agree wholeheartedly with the three artists you mention. We're in good hands for a while...

He may be waiting to see what shakes out at UK. being a Kentucky fan and watching Cal during his time at UK, it's hard to count the guy out.

Supposedly Lil Wayne is a UNC fan as well. Why don't they have him sitting courtside for the next big game? Can't hurt....

Whether you've heard of J. Cole or not isn't really important. The fact is our players have. He's a socially concious rapper that brings a positive endorsement to both our recruiting and the team. Its a huge advantage that can be compared to Drake @ Kentucky. Perhaps even better seeing that he's not a team hopper like Drake.

I heard he switches teams as much as Drake. Pretty sure I remember him endorsing multiple NFL teams the past couple of years.

That's your opinion. My goal was to introduce J. Cole to those who had no idea who he was. Whether you would date Drake is of no concern to me.

No one said anything about dating him. I'm picking up on some hurt feelings because I called your rap hero whack. But he is. He and the good majority of rappers today are complete garbage. Every time someone downloads a Drake song, Guru rolls over in his grave.

And I checked out your boy Jcole. Eeesh. Is this really what passes for rap music today?

Embarrassin'. Seriously? Maybe we should ask Roy to start dressing like Cal too. The athletic department might even buy Roy the same car Cal drives.

We have enough history and tradition and Roy is likable enough that we shouldn't have to copy what another coach is doing. It sounds like you might want to switch team affiliations.

My god, no! Not only is Wayne a terrible artist, but I don't think that's the kind of guy we want our program associated with.

Lil Wayne a terrible artist... lmfao... okay...

That said, that song you linked is sick.

But, I have never heard of J Cole before this thread.

I thought it was terrible but I wouldn't go as far as to say it made me physically ill.

Lol, such a typical & pathetic excuse against a potential recruiting edge. At this point i could only expect it from an aged fan that refuses change.

UNC gets a famous supporter on our side? Clearly we are copying Cal. Nevermind if its one of the top 3 rappers of this generation who was born in NC. Kentucky did it first so lets not do it, even if it's working. Everything is always "copying Cal" with people like you. Stop acting so inferior. We are better than that.

Contrary to your "tradition", plenty of teams have had famous people support them. You think Cal was the first to get someone famous to endorse a team? What's wrong with having an advantage? Or is having an advantage something that goes against your "tradition" as well?

Like I said, it is of little importance if you have heard of J. Cole. And no amount of whining or questioning my allegiance will change that. The players that we want to play @ UNC have. And our coach clearly understood this, otherwise he would not have been invited to associate with our team. Roy knew what he was doing, and thats what actually matters. It's becoming more than obvious that you don't.

Yes, Lil' Wayne is somewhat sucky. Compare him to real rap, rap where the lyrics counted, not the background beat. 2Pac, NWA, Eric B, Rakim, Eric Sermon, Eminem, Big Daddy Kane, etc. You cannot compare clowns like Drake and Wayne to these guys.....

We are better than that. That's the point. We're better than having to take a page out of Cal's playbook. I think the dribble drive offense that Cal runs that essentially lets players freestyle on the court is also a big selling point to OAD types. Are you in favor of Roy adopting that style of play? I mean, hey, it works, right?

Have you seen the movie Oh Brother Where Art Thou? If you have, you'll understand the relevance of this clip. If not, let me set the scene. Pappy is running for public office against Stokes. Stokes' campaign is using a midget as his sidekick. Here in this clip, Pappy is talking to his campaign people about how they can get back in the race. Pappy's nephew suggest they go out and find a shorter midget. And Pappy gets irate and says "we'll look like a bunch of Johnny-come-latelys". Hilarious clip.

I apologize for questioning your fandom. You seem to be a good fan and I'm never in the business of telling someone how they have to support the team. But I am in the business of arguing what's good and what ain't for the program in general (I'm also in the business of arguing about rap music as I grew up in the golden age of hip hop). You and I clearly have two different ideas on that and I guess that's fine. But from my standpoint, us attempting to replicate someone else's recruiting process seems weak. And I think we're better than that. Furthermore, I also see it as pointless as I don't believe Drake's involvement with UK is doing much. Cal's success is based on his ability to get kids that need instant gratification to the league immediately. His style and everything about Cal is built on that and enables that. Roy is not like that. Roy's system is not like that. So IMO, we could have Nas writing songs about the Tar Heels and it wouldn't make basketball recruits start falling over themselves to play for us. (You do know who Nas is, right?)

Wow,...I used a clip of Oh Brother Where Art Thou and discussed the merits of Nas rapping about the Tar Heels in the same post. I should win a prize or something.

Acknowledging a famous artist that CHOOSES to support the Heels is NOT copying anyone! It would be idiotic not to embrace him as long as he represents the U well. Lil' Wayne is a different story and in this context is nothing but a smokescreen to distract from the real argument. AND coaches borrow plays and tweaks from each other all the time, so if Roy thinks elements of Slimy's offense fits our personnel, I know he is smart enough to use them! I do happen to agree that "old school" rap is better, but my father thought the Jackson 5 (and Elvis) was a fad and nothing but soulless music that couldn't compare to the greats of the 50's. (Its generational)

Roy is a great recruiter and smart enough to know that you don't turn down a gift when it is handed to you!

Some of you guys are truly over the hill by some of your comments about lil Wayne and j Cole 's music!!

The only J.Cole song I've ever heard was the one I linked. And while I thought it to be pretty bad, I guess I won't judge his entire collection off that one song. But I also won't go looking for any others either. But Wayne is a different story. He's an embarrassment to rap music. That's not me talking, that's other rappers, music critics, etc. He's not very well respected with his cohorts. And I'm simply agreeing with the masses. He's a buster.

Cracks me up when you say we shouldn't encourage this. Same people who want Michael to just happen to be at the gym when a recruit visits. It's no different.

I'm not a kid and have 3 kids of my own under 12. I say this to let you know that I have no idea who J. Cole is and I don't care. He is a fan and well known to kids college age. Doesn't hurt to have him at games being seen.
