Recommendation for a diet

That is beyond my capabilities. I applaud you for your effort in Heath and fitness. I still want to enjoy life. A ribeye is a wonderful thing

Then eat a ribeye. Eat whatever meat you want. I grill Sunday for my entire week. Salmon, steak, chicken, pork, etc... Just whatever I feel like. I used to use only healthy, non salt seasoning but don't really care anymore. As long as you eat healthy stuff around it you are fine. As for breakfast, just eat a PB sandwich. It isn't that hard and is very filling.

I'm a big fan of working to help lose weight but don't do anything heavy anymore. I only go twice a week to the gym and only do two sets of everything (except bench). Use machines. They aren't as good as free weights but are easier to do if you are scared of injuries. IMO, the key is metabolism. Eating a little 6 times a day gets your metabolism doing something six times a day. Hell, when I was into really lifting a lot I ate right before I went to bed on purpose. I wouldn't recommend that though, haha.

maybe just limit ribeyes and such?...i know people that eat red meat four days a week.

i've only been doing this since the day after the super bowl, so i'm relatively new at altering or overhauling a diet, at least since the atkins phenom was popular...i was never even out of shape or unhealthy, it was more of a challenge and i just stuck with it.

i would say enjoy what you enjoy, just dial it back.

GT is correct about cutting out anything white (well, maybe except women).

Bread is an absolute diet killer. Sugar will kill you, too. My problem is grits, Southern napalm. I looove that stuff. I eat a small breakfast during the week because I'm usually here by 4:30, but on the weekends I'm either eating a very unhealthy breakfast at home or stuffing down that Waffle House All-Star. The only thing that saves me is the fact the HH6 eats the waffle, lol.

I'm going to like this poast even though it is slightly racist.

I started eating paleo in Feb. grass fed meat and green veggies. limited dairy, no glutens, only drink water or coffee and allow myself a scotch or two every now and then.
I've lost over 10% of body weight and 3 inches in waist from 35 to 32.
also do the bulletproof coffee every morning. coffee blended with grass fed butter and mct oil.
only real exercise is carrying my golf bag 18 holes on Sat and Sun.

When I turned 40 I got in the best shape of my life. Lifted 6 days a week, and watched everything I ate. Kept track of my food intake on fitday. Ate six meals a day with a goal of 3200 calories. 50%protein, 30% good carbs and 20% good fats. Went from 220 to 185 and 7% body fat with no cardio. Stayed in the routine for 4 years. Was a lot of work. Now I just do about what I want to do. My exercise comes from bird hunting and golf and 12 oz curls.

You feed your butter grass? Damn, you must be really serious about that whole paleo thing.

7% at 40 is pretty ridiculous. In my late 20s and early 30s 6.7 was the lowest I ever got to. I was pretty obsessive about working out and eating back then though. There is no way in hell I could get back there at 41. I actually was tested last week and was at 14.6%, which is almost perfect for my age in terms of desirable fitness level, which surprised me. I don't think I have the ambition to push things much farther tbh, haha.

that shit is actually terrible

Yeah, I tried one once. I actually like protein shakes. I used to just mix the vanilla protein with milk and peanut butter. That was good stuff. Nutrisystem was terrible though.

Unfortunately wellness if done correctly is a lifestyle choice than involves discipline around exercise and diet. There are many studies that show the benefits of eating a Mediterranean diet. See the mayo clinic or just google it. Also try to eat 5 smaller meals a day instead of three normal meals

My suggestion is to start slow. As someone suggested earlier try first month cut out any drinks except water, second month substitute whole wheat for white breads, third month cut out the sugars. etc etc. same way with exercise. Walk then run and definitely add strength training into your exercise program. I would find someone that is trying to do the same thing you're doing and have an accountability partner.

Although difficult if you are able to change your habits it is a life altering lifestyle that will definitely increase the quality of your life. Good luck!!

Once you start eating wheat bread it is hard to eat white bread. For me it was at least. I don't even like white bread any more.

I just couldn't do what y'all are doing with these diets. I'd rather work out for an extra 20-30-60-90-120 minutes a day than restrict my diet to what y'all are doing.

I mean, I could limit and constrict and reduce, but I could never cut out things like red meat, fast food (I could limit but not eliminate), cokes, alcohol, stuff like that.

I agree. Luckily, you don't have to though. I sure don't. It is just about not overindulging for me. There are things I've cut out. Mainly potato chips because I can't resist them if they are there, haha. Now, I don't eat fast food much. We will every now and then. Besides that I eat well though, stuff I like for sure. I just don't pig out on a daily basis.

Yeah that's what I need to do is just not overindulge. I went through a phase a couple years back where I stopped buying snack foods (chips, cheez-its, etc) so that I couldn't snack, and I switched to all Zero cokes (Dr Pepper 10, Mello Yello Zero, stuff like that) but lately I've reverted back to regular cokes and snacking again. I need to tighten that up.

it's not just about looking your best in a mirror...i'm nobody on here's dad, and you can exercise all you want, but if you're still fueling your body with crap, what's the point?

Yes, happiness. For some folks, food isn't a big deal and is just a means of sustenance. To others, food can improve mood and bring smiles. I'll admit it, it just feels good to eat unhealthy sometimes or overindulge. I'm not gonna live life depriving myself of things I like, within reason.

i must admit, seeing the word "depriving" when describing a diet or lifestyle is kinda funny...it's just mindset and happiness is there or it's not, i believe.

When I was in Central America, I had to eat a vegetarian diet for over a year, including oatmeal (which I hate) for breakfast almost every morning. No booze either.

Did I feel better, physiologically? Not really. Did I enjoy meals less? Absolutely. I'm not a foodie at all -- planning and cooking meals often feel like a chore to me -- but I sure appreciated the freedom to eat what I wanted once I no longer had restrictions. Moderation still matters to me but if I want a pizza, I'm gonna eat a pizza.

Happiness? I'd rather die at 70 after living life happy than live to 80 by abstaining from all the food and drink I enjoy.

It's not really about dying early, dying is the easy part of it. It's the lack of quality of life you will start experiencing as you get into the second stage of you life expectancy. Your young now so your body is able to handle pretty much whatever you fuel it with but as you get older that poor fuel will lead to disease, stokes, and an overall low quality of life. Ultimately it's a choice all of us have to make. It's not like if you continue to eat poorly things your body will preform like it does now forever. I promise you it will catch up with you at a certain point. As Corey said moderation is the key but my experience is as i cut out those things (except alcohol) I really didn't miss them that much. I still drink but just not as much as I did in my 20s and 30s.

Yeah, that's very true, unfortunately. I do find myself choosing to make my own meals more and more often trying to ween myself out of eating out so much. I enjoy cooking, even though I wouldn't say I'm particularly good at it, but I HATE (and I mean HATE) the cleanup afterwards. Thank God for dishwashers, but I still hate it. I haven't been through a drive-thru in about a couple of weeks, and the last time I did was because THN talked me into going to Zaxby's for lunch. I'll still pick up something to-go on my way home from time to time, but when I do, I try to keep to places that have better quality or like some of the local joints or something to avoid that fast food type feeling, for a lack of a better description.
