Hey cool, you ever been to the Original Pancake House in Midtown? I was there for lunch (woot woot) a couple weeks ago. When you walk in the door, they have a t-shirt displayed on the wall with their logo that says "I Love Bacon." Thought about getting one for you, but it's sleeveless and I'm not sure whether your guns are ready for the world, or whether the world is ready for your guns, or whatever.
The Original Pancake House is phenomenal. I've been to that location several times, and I think I like it more and more each time. It's such a pain to try to get into, at times, though since it's always slammed. I always get bacon, eggs and pancakes.

My "guns" aren't guns. They're twigs, so I avoid sleeveless T's.

Was she/he transgender? That would almost complete the diverse circle
This was 2003. Transgender didn't exist yet.

This was 2003. Transgender didn't exist yet. Maybe the old timers blame your age group for all the transgender nonsense. All we had was drag queens.

Went to a club in Tampa in the mid 90s with a buddy of mine. He was absolute redneck and never been anywhere like that place.
He would cat call those drags Everytime he saw them. We would roll when he did it, which was almost Everytime we tried to go out. Was so tempting to set him up with one to "make the discovery"

We're a diverse bunch. Well, as far as food is concerned. Otherwise it's just a bunch of white dudes hanging out.

Oh, i love food. Im one of the most diverse eaters you will see. Love trying new things. My metabolism is slowing down, so i have to watch myself these days. I have to go New Orleans for a conference soon, i just cant wait for the food. Po boys, here I come.

The new Mello Yello logo is horrendous. How the hell did that thing even get approved?
I'm not sure, but if I had to guess... probably ecause companies jerk off to subtleties that designers put into logos.... such as how the M and the Y make a heart in the negative space between them.

You call that a heart? It looks like the chevron logo to me (below). Maybe they're subtly saying it tastes like gasoline. But regardless, they could have gotten that same shape by having the Y be normal instead of weird.

I KNEW someone was gonna say it was a chevron. It's a heart in geometric form (all straight lines), like the lettering.

Well, I have researched diets and found one that seems to be the best fit for what I am looking to do.
The woman who designed this diet was in agriculture before she became a nutritionist. I really enjoyed reading the science behind this diet.
It's called the fast metabolism diet. Basically the week is broke into 3 phases. Each of those phases are designed to speed your metabolism up. This is something that has plagued me since before my surgery. I won't get into the nuts and bolts, but I will say today is day 5. I have dropped 7lbs and have eat as much food as I can stand. Granted, there is no shredded cheese, hotdogs, or ribeyes, but I can withstand lots of veggies. I've had chicken breast one a day.
The more weight you want to lose, the more of certain things on the list you eat. I have to eat every 3-4 hours. I go to bed thinking there's no way I'll be any lighter by morning. My weigh time is right after my morning deuce. Start weight was 262. This morning I was 255. Yoh also have to drink half your body weight in ounces of water. Basically a bottle a waking hour for me.

Well I have lost 40 pounds 2 times in the past 15 years. I found the best way was eat as many veggies as you like as long as they aren't fried. So stay away from all fried foods. Drink LOTS OF WATER. Don't eat after 6pm and never eat in bed. If you have to snack, get some carrots or celery and eat those. Water is your best friend as it will keep you feeling full. My Dr told me to eat all the vegetables and fresh fruit I wanted to and stay away from fried foods. You may have broiled chicken or grilled chicken with the skin removed. No sauces of any kind. No Carbs either. The first couple days are hard but in a week you will see results on your scale and once you see than its motivation enough to get you onto maybe a treadmill or an elliptical machine. Take it nice and slow and before you know it you will have dropped 20 pounds without exercising.
JMHO, but it worked 2 times very well. Went from a 40" waist to a 34" in 6 months......Just saying....:)

That is the interesting thing about this diet. By kickstarting your metabolism, you are better able to burn what you eat. We all know it's about your lifestyle and what you take in. But on the same token, you need to live some. I grew up in the south, and never knew fried chicken legs was a bad thing. Removing the skin was a carnal sin. Naturally once the weight is gone, you can't indulge in those things everyday. But feeling shame for drinking a soda and eating something unhealthy is not right.

With this diet, if you see the weight coming back, just do a few weeks of these phases. Stressing over the foods you eat, and starving yourself produces hormones that eat your muscle and converts everything you eat into fat. I would suggest checking her diet out. It exposes several myth diets.

Her key to life after weight loss is continue eating. Do it every 3-4 hours. Eat the foods that will keep your metabolism going. So when you do eat cake, it won't sink you

that's no heart...that's one of those new defibrillator thingys gyms are putting in.

AED. I have to get trained on how to use one each year.

it's not just about looking your best in a mirror...i'm nobody on here's dad, and you can exercise all you want, but if you're still fueling your body with crap, what's the point?

To look good at the beach as well?

Being thin and fit isn't all it's cracked up to be tbh. If I go a week or so without working abs and eat crappy I can tell a noticeable difference in my stomach. Fat people don't have that problem.

I love to eat.
I grew up poor. We did not have much back then, but we eat good. I come from a family of eaters as well. I could almost eat 24 hours a day as a kid. I graduated high school weighing 160lb. After basic training I was 175lb. I am 5-11 tall. I partied pretty hard for several years as well. So married my wife in 98. I was 180 then. Since then, I gained to a final weight of 260. My family typically has a solid frame, especially in the leg and thigh area. So, I really don't think much can be done for that. I have alot of muscle there. My main area of fat is my belly. I wear size 42 pants. I really want to shed about 60 lbs.
I tried cutting carbs and also tried a 1600 calorie a day diet. Managed to shed 15 lbs that way, but then my back went out and had a period of about 8 months that I was severely limited on activity. My back is better, but I cannot lift weights or exercise in ways to strain my back. Walking and standing for extended periods stresses it.
I have cut all sodas out of my life.
I drink water and tea. I don't drink and I don't smoke. I really think my metabolism is a factor in my weight gain. Most of it came within the last 10 years. I have a hard time with my appetite. I usually skip breakfast , eat a light lunch, and a good supper. Night snacks are an issue. I try to eat fruit, but find it hard to stay satisfied with them. I can down 2 apples and 2 oranges with no problem and still be hungry. No a Hugh fan of sweets. I have to force myself to turn away from chips.

Any advice?

Burn more calories than you consume. The easiest way to do that is by increasing your exercise. I only weigh about 160 pounds at 6'2" and eat nearly 5000 calories/day because I lift weights six days a week and run anywhere from 5 to 15 miles every day. Longer runs on the weekends can burn 2000 calories in one go. That makes it easy to keep the fat off and still eat large portions several times per day. Take it easy and use proper form, and I'm sure you could build back up to a solid workout routine.

Track EVERYTHING you eat and drink, and all of your exercising. That which gets measured gets managed. Calories will sneak up on you. Most people significantly underestimate their calorie intake and overestimate their exercise. Use GPS apps like nike+ to track your running, and use an excel spreadsheet for weight lifting. This allows you to track your progress without doubts or cognitive bias.

Tea is healthier than soda, but I can still knock back 1000 calories worth of sweet tea in a day if I'm not careful. All that sugar means an increase in insulin which triggers fat storage. Cut out as much sugar as you can. Sugar is the number one enemy of fat loss and general health.

I'd look into some PT for your back. Getting that taken care of in advance will allow you to increase the effort of your workouts, and as a result burn more calories.

Most importantly, set specific long term/short term goals. Defining your expectations will help you stay motivated, and give you a tremendous sense of achievement when you finally cross the finish line.

Not that any of this is bad advice, but aren't you in your 20s? Your metabolism is still up on that plateau. Check back in with us in a decade or two once it's started the downward slide, and you don't have time to lift weights and run 10 miles every day.

My metabolism is through the roof for sure. But if I ate as much as I eat now without the exercise, I would still put on fat like crazy. I was just trying to say that its a lot easier to increase exercise than it is to decrease food intake.

Very few people don't have time to lift weights and/or run every day. Its just a question of commitment and priorities.

Once you have kids time to lift weights and run is very limited. I am fortunate that I can do it a couple of times a week but many have even less time than I do. I actually think decreasing food intake is pretty easy if you just get in the habit of doing it. Most people eat way more than they need to.

All of you are frickin nuts. I like food (read: real food. Not rabbit food) wayyyyyy too much to "limit food intake" or "eliminate carbs" or "significantly limit sugar."

Bump. That.

Read up on this diet that I have started. Google the fast metabolism diet.
I am half way thru week 2 and riding around 9 lbs lost. The science behind this diet is sound. Also t-5 he reviews are outstanding. Most people who fail on this diet are the ones who change the parameters. I have a rather large appetite. So this diet is well suited for my needs. I also suffer from what you describe.

This....get something like the my fitness pal app and just track everything you eat for a while. Will seem tedious at first but will quickly become second nature. Caloric deficit is the key. You can workout like crazy and if your diet is junk you won't lose a lb. Diet is about 70% of weight loss. On the other hand many many people drop serious weight with minimal exercise. Obviously exercise helps with cals burned which create a larger caloric deficit. More muscle always helps. Stay hydrated! Many folks also love the keto diet...but I don't have much experience with it. 500 cal deficit a day = 1lb loss a week. 1000 cal deficit is 2 lbs loss a week which is a good sustainable objective.

Find an exercise you really like doing....weights, running, buy a mountain bike, etc. I love my mtn bike and it's about 900 cals an hour burned. Lots of great trails in NC (and elsewhere for that matter).

Best of luck!!
