Recommendation for a diet

Yeah, that's very true, unfortunately. I do find myself choosing to make my own meals more and more often trying to ween myself out of eating out so much. I enjoy cooking, even though I wouldn't say I'm particularly good at it, but I HATE (and I mean HATE) the cleanup afterwards. Thank God for dishwashers, but I still hate it. I haven't been through a drive-thru in about a couple of weeks, and the last time I did was because THN talked me into going to Zaxby's for lunch. I'll still pick up something to-go on my way home from time to time, but when I do, I try to keep to places that have better quality or like some of the local joints or something to avoid that fast food type feeling, for a lack of a better description.

i have the same issues and the lack of quality places to eat that are available especially in rural areas are a pain in the butt. i imagine as education continues to get stronger around wellness and the financial benefits it has on our economy, you will see semi healthy options like a panera bread, etc become more common place

I always enjoy going to Panera bread and taking a right at the light to eat at chick-fil-a.

You guys are really making me want to run by the grocery store and pick up some brats for tonight. Saute some peppers and onions along with some spicy brown mustard. Yep, may have to do it.

I love to eat.
I grew up poor. We did not have much back then, but we eat good. I come from a family of eaters as well. I could almost eat 24 hours a day as a kid. I graduated high school weighing 160lb. After basic training I was 175lb. I am 5-11 tall. I partied pretty hard for several years as well. So married my wife in 98. I was 180 then. Since then, I gained to a final weight of 260. My family typically has a solid frame, especially in the leg and thigh area. So, I really don't think much can be done for that. I have alot of muscle there. My main area of fat is my belly. I wear size 42 pants. I really want to shed about 60 lbs.
I tried cutting carbs and also tried a 1600 calorie a day diet. Managed to shed 15 lbs that way, but then my back went out and had a period of about 8 months that I was severely limited on activity. My back is better, but I cannot lift weights or exercise in ways to strain my back. Walking and standing for extended periods stresses it.
I have cut all sodas out of my life.
I drink water and tea. I don't drink and I don't smoke. I really think my metabolism is a factor in my weight gain. Most of it came within the last 10 years. I have a hard time with my appetite. I usually skip breakfast , eat a light lunch, and a good supper. Night snacks are an issue. I try to eat fruit, but find it hard to stay satisfied with them. I can down 2 apples and 2 oranges with no problem and still be hungry. No a Hugh fan of sweets. I have to force myself to turn away from chips.

Any advice?

All you can eat sushi?

I'm an independent lifeform, coolwaterunc. Let me be me.
We are brothers when it comes to food. I can't just sit there and watch you keep going down this road. This is your intervention. I know you don't have a grill (I don't either, yet), and that's okay, but you MUST at least fry them. Once you do it, you'll realize how much better they really are, and you won't want to use that despicable microwave again.

Oh I mean when I cook legit brats at home, I'll fry them in a skillet with butter or olive oil.

Most of the time I'm eating hot dogs, though, is at work for lunch. Therefore, microwave.

That's good to know for the brats. I thought we really had a serious issue going on there for a minute.

The hot dogs are still a problem though. Whenever I cook my dogs, I always cook the entire pack at once on the pan (can't wait for a grill) and then put the rest of what I don't eat in the fridge, so they can be readily available at lunch. Then, and only then, are they considered to be okay for the microwave. Still not ideal, but way better than microwaving straight from the pack.

Make a $20 investment in a grill pan for cooking meats indoors. It's a great substitute if you're not allowed to have an actual outdoor grill.

This guy is going places.

Ya, grill pan or a George Foreman grill or anything similar can work as a substitute if you don't have access to a grill. Grilling beforehand and bringing the already grilled dogs to work and then heating in a microwave isn't the same as eating right off the grill, but certainly better than just microwaving. Grill the buns beforehand too - much better if the buns are grilled.

Have a little respect for yourself, man. Eating microwaved dogs is no way to go through life.

You want to eat breakfast to get your metabolism going. Buy a nutra bullet or Vitamix, and make some smoothies. Try my favorite: strawberry, banana, avocado, kale and unsweetened almond milk (avocado's are a good fat, and help stay full). If you don't have time for a smoothie, and need a breakfast sandwich or something, substitute the normal with wheat, egg white and turkey sausage/bacon. Lunches: make a salad, I usually add shrimp or chicken on mine to get them more exciting. Dinner: lean meats (chicken, turkey) or seafood, with vegetables. If you don't have to go completely crazy on the diet, you can still eat very delicious foods. Some fruits you actually don't want to eat (I know, crazy right?). Avoid the high sugar fruits: Apples, Pineapple, ect.. and eat more berries (blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, ect.. they are low on sugar). I know you said exercise is tough for you, but if you can get 5 moderate workouts in a week, that would be great. You don't have to do any crazy workouts, a 20 minute walk is considered a workout. I personally love row machines. Good luck man.

Ignore this.
Hey cool, you ever been to the Original Pancake House in Midtown? I was there for lunch (woot woot) a couple weeks ago. When you walk in the door, they have a t-shirt displayed on the wall with their logo that says "I Love Bacon." Thought about getting one for you, but it's sleeveless and I'm not sure whether your guns are ready for the world, or whether the world is ready for your guns, or whatever.
