Recruitng class of 2016

2016 db from Florida KJ Sails tweeted unc offered, anyone have details?
just saw the tweet. Md and rootgers seem to be the leaders. I think we are a better option. moo offered on 1-19 and 4 other offers in Jan. He seems to be wide open. 247 gives him 4* and he is a 3* composite.

IMO, he's one of a few guys we're recruiting for 'insurance' against any defections, specifically a fellow Floridian who's committed to us currently...

It's a dang good DB class so far though for sure!

CB Myles Wolfolk (extremely high 3-star at 5.7 rating) -- 6'1'', 180
CB Gregory Ross (ditto at 5.7 rating) -- 6'0'', 171
S Myles Dorn (5.8 rated 4-star) -- 6'2'', 195
S Patrice Rene (5.8 rated 4-star) -- 6'2'', 203

That's solid right there (and you'll notice I left out a current commit because he's the one I think is going to flip). Notice a trend with those numbers above? SIZE. The new defensive staff we've brought in has gotten us on par with the rest of big-time college football where we are going after LB'ers and DBs with size. The previous staff, to fit that godawful 4-2-5, recruited and targeted a BUNCH of tweeners who had to offset their lack of height with effort and want-to. That's all well and good because you do want guys who are intensely motivated, but at DB and LB you just cannot 100% make up for not having that height, IMO.

Really, really excited about the future (DL still obviously being our albatross) because this staff has us going after elite talent. Go Heels!

So you are thinking Pierre is going to flip? We are still recruiting Durr and CB Christopher McWilliams (UF commit) is scheduled to visit 1-22. Chizk visited S Daniel Thomas on 1-19. I was hoping to see a commit from Simms by now. Fedora and Scott went in home with Cater last night, Cater has an official with SoCar this weekend and was at Arkansas on 12-4.

I just have a gut feeling he's going to. No insider info. I definitely would like to hold on to him obviously. Kinda with you on the Simms thing but maybe he won't make it official to NSD?

There's a fervor of activity right now so it's hard to read all the tea leaves!

It is clear they are tall but it is also hard to tell how many are targeted for safety or nickel as opposed to corner. Say what you want about size, but 5'11 Donnie Miles and 5'11 MJ Stewart are probably the two best defenders on the team, and I'm guessing the coaches wouldn't trade those two for anybody.

^ some of the best corners in college are under 6. Safeties too. I like the idea of a long, rangy free safety that can cover lots of ground, and go up high, but as long as they can run, tackle, and have good timing, i'm happy. Height is probably the least important thing...

Simms had Ole Miss in home yesterday and also Va Tech the day before...Also had a great visit at UNC and Coach JP went and saw him again...At this point I have no idea but we are in it....

Nate Craig-Meyers lists us in his top 3 along with Auburn and Ole Miss per Kelly Parsons(said he told her) at the TB Times. The consensus is Ole Miss but I think this guy could rack up the stats at UNC. His brother CB Jayvaughn Meyers was also being recruited by UNC at one time and they have discussed playing together but the thinking was it would be at Auburn. Any way we seem to have a puncher's chance. Nate decommitted from Auburn earlier this year.

Go to 247 (UNC) click on UNC signing day HQ below that click on National signing day primer - remaining targets. some great free info. Somebody else may be able to link it here.

Nate Craig-Meyers has canceled his visit this weekend to Ole Miss. Guy at SEC network is saying it is a package deal with his brother to Auburn. I also read his mother wasn't thrilled with Auburn and there is concern the coach may be on hot seat. Nate also tweeted out that the decision was his and can't help and won't worry what others think.

did the poor showing in the bowl game affect recruiting? i'm not saying it did, just wondering what others think.

Hard to tell. If I was a defensive prospect then I would be thinking "damn I can play early there" But I've been saying that for a couple of years.

I'd say "no it hasn't" which is correct with all our non-DL recruits. However, it isn't clear yet if it affected DL recruiting. Our main targets (Lawrence, Campbell, Fox) all had said yes or no well before the bowl. So it's kinda tough to tell. Even Cater's decision won't really tell us because we got on him late.

Nope...The class was pretty much done anyway...Also have already started real strong on the 2017 class...I didn't think the Bowl game was a poor showing compared to last years Bowl Game...Got beat by the better Team the last 2 games of the season...

Longtime reader, first time poster. Apologize in advance for going off off-topic. Just wanted to take a quick second to introduce myself and didn't feel like it was necessary to start a new thread. I'm a huge Carolina fan. Love Tar Heel football. Nothing better than Chapel Hill on gameday. When I'm not trying to keep close tabs on the program, I also follow the Braves, Hornets and Panthers. I just created a new Twitter account. Hope to tweet a lot about recruiting. Looking forward to some Heel Yeahs from Fedora over the next week!

Disagree about the RAB. That was an embarrassing performance that is unacceptable. No way around it.

Despite that, it hasn't slowed recruiting. We really need to land Lawler in the 2017 class.

Cool but embarrassing was the Bowl Game vs RU where I felt the team just quit and gave up...They never quit and fought till the end vs BU...Make no mistake it could have been real bad vs BU...

But I understand your point...

To be honest, I don't know where we stand with Rasul. I have a feeling he ends up at Alabama if he has a committable offer, but I don't think he's at the top of their board right now. From what I understand, we're looking for one more DB, and will find a spot for a select few.

ETA: UNC is a finalist along with Alabama and FSU.

I also read we would like a LB , but seems like things have been quiet with Keith Simms lately.

Visited UNC over the weekend. Expected to announce his top 3 today.

S Daniel Thomas

Visited UNC over the weekend. Some speculation that he might be canceling his upcoming OV to Clemson.

CB Coney Durr

Has an upcoming OV with VaTech.
I think Daniel Thomas has made it known recently that he is hoping for an Auburn offer.

He visits Auburn this weekend expecting an offer. It's unclear if he will also visit Clemson. If academics are as important to him as what's being reported, UNC should be a serious contender. South Carolina is also in the mix.

Just a side note on Rasul, Alabama lone rb commit BJ Emmons currently doesn't have the right ACT test score to get in. He is trying to retake it or scheduling it. Should of posted this when I saw it. Here's the link:

Wow, unfortunate for him. I think Texas standout and current Ole Miss commit D'Vaughn Pennamon is their top choice, but Emmons not making it in could certainly change things.
