Rumor: Pitino is attempting to flip Ian Jackson

Blows my mind, with how many deep pockets a lot of UNC alums have AND isn't UNC considered one of the top business school in the nation and yet they still seem to lose guys because of NIL level stuff? Or is that just a BS excuse and kids just dont want to come here and we are blaming NIL. For years it was always "Well Duke and UK and Arizona were all buying kids and we cant do that" but now its completely legal and we are still behind the 8 ball …. By all indications seems like door is back open with Ian, and pitino is gonna sell him on the NIL stuff, to come in early and play a ton of games at MSG, and lets face it, thats what hes going to do, I would imagine we are out on booggie fland now too, as pitino is not going to let those NYC/Jersey kids leave anymore

Losing Jackson would be a disaster.

It's TBD whether losing Nickel is a big deal or not. He hasn't proven he can play well at this level yet. The fact UVA didn't want him out of high school, and doesn't want him now that he's in the portal, seems like a red flag to me.
And how is it that losing Jackson would be a disaster? Jack is a heck of a talent for sure and yes it would be a blow if he were flipped but disaster? But that is a kid that is going to have a harder transition to the college game than many feel, he isn't instant grits. Kid is a slasher 3/2 combo, he shot a little better this season but jump shooting is something he needs to work on vs well developed college bodies. He isn't that physical strong or broad shouldered guy that physically dominates, it is going to take him some time to adjust and you are only going to have him for a single season, Cadeau is more ready to play now type of player. Love to have him honor his commitment but I am not going to riot in the streets if he flips either. Absolutely serious, I would much rather have a senior Caleb Love play for UNC than a reclassed freshman Jackson.

Losing Jackson would be a disaster because of the message it sends. UNC's top commitments in back to back recruiting classes decommitting to go play for much worse programs? That stuff doesn't happen anywhere without sanctions or a coaching change causing it. But it's happening at UNC. While players are jumping into the transfer portal after Hubert led the #1 team in the country to miss the NCAA Tournament.

There's blood in the water. If Pitino can steal Jackson, I wouldn't be too confident on Cadeau making it to Chapel Hill either.

It's ironic that with UNC's NBA presence currently being the worst it's been in 50 years, the two recruits Hubert has landed that were locks to be NBA lottery picks have both decided they'd be better off playing elsewhere.

How is that ironic???

Well said.

We are watching a program that was arguably the best in the land for decades, turn into Indiana right in front of our eyes

If it comes down to 2 guys that reclassed then let them go some other place. I will take a portal guy over a reclass freshman any day, unless that reclass freshman is 6'11" & 250lbs! LOL

Note: I will be very surprised if Ian Jackson reclasses, all I hear is he would have to really dedicate a ton to be able to get the extra classes in to be able to graduate early. Pitino wants him NOW so he can get a big splash start.

The similarities are becoming glaring.

If you recall, Mike Davis and Indiana made an improbable run to the championship after a mediocre 19-11 season in Davis' second year. And lost. But he was rewarded with a contract extension. And then Indiana started to sink into irrelevancy.

But yet he apparently didn't listen to shit Roy was telling him for 10 years as an assistant!

this has somehow gotten lost in the mix this whole year. people talk about how Roy groomed Hubert and to give him time, but Hubert does pretty much nothing like Roy did and has completely done things his own way with little success. Not a good look for a guy that was handed a job he wasn't qualified for to come in with the gumption to make all these changes, and the results have been shit.

Worst move made in the history of college basketball was Carolina hiring Davis!

Tight wads

Unless there is some type of controversy that makes the school look bad, he'll get four years. I don't think anyone has high expectations for next year, but year four is definitely going to be a year where he has to have a UNC type of achievement.
You don't think anyone has high expectations for next year??? Teams can immediately rebuild with the portal; many of our competitors did. If we do poorly next year Hubert should be gone.

I don't drink and I am with ya
I don't drink that much either but apparently some of our own fans don't think we can match the mighty Kansas State in terms of rebuilding through the portal! Consider me an optimist.

Yep, it's not difficult to rebuild in CBB. The portal is essentialy free agency. With Bacot coming back, hopefully RJ. finally having a little depth in the front court with Washington and High before any transfers (Yes I believe Washington will be really good after a summer of gaining weight and working on his game instead of rehab) and surrounding Bacot with shooters via the portal. I think next year can be just fine.

So Hubert is going to lose his top commitment in back to back classes. He just took the #1 team in the country and missed the NCAA tournament. He just set the record for worst 3pt shooting team in UNC history. He's had too many transfers to count in his 2 years, including several he recruited as head coach.

The sooner we move on, the better.
The new UNC is nothing like I watched for the past 30 years. Frankly, it sux seeing this.

The opportunity is there for Davis to rebuild the team for next year, some of the teams remaining in the NCAAT rebuilt from last season. Someone mentioned Kansas State, also Miami and some of the others have portal players making a big impacts this season.

Probably has something to do with Hubert not having the best record when it comes to the portal and now he has to build a whole team using it. Plus I've been told that we have elementary skilled players on the bench. Not exactly a high hopes type of scenario.

We have an all-american center returning for his 5th year. With the right additions, (and subtraction), we have an opportunity to be just fine next year
