Rumor: Pitino is attempting to flip Ian Jackson

GG's mom was never on board with him going anywhere except her beloved South Carolina. She's the one that was meeting with South Carolina boosters. She's the one that made GG flip his commitment. And GG ended up miserable, making an IG live a few weeks back talking about how he "already betrayed one school" which was how he ended up feeling about what he did to UNC.

The statements that Ian's dad and Ian's mentor gave to IC last night seem a great deal more reassuring than anything that GG's family ever said after news about his decommit started circulating. Let's just keep our fingers crossed that they hold firm to those statements.
Totally agree, but during the family deliberations, I'm sure the NIL money was going up and up. Foot dragging is always good for negotiations if you are in a position of strength like GG was.

This is not a relaxing comment: "I wouldn’t dismiss it entirely, but I wouldn’t start losing sleep just yet. Nothing is imminent."

Hopefully Cadeau will help us keep Jackson, as I recall that they are fond of each other's game.
Or we lose Cadeau too... 😳😳

Thanks. But I'm not sure we should totally relax. From your link:

I can tell you only what I know for sure on Ian Jackson-to-St. John’s front, which admittedly isn’t much right now. I texted with somebody in the know this week about this rumor, and that person said, and I quote “he was still all UNC [Tuesday] and shot everything down (when the hire was made), but he’s open to hearing about it now.”
The source said he didn’t have any idea if a flip would actually take place but did point out that the rumor isn’t totally unfounded, even if it still feels like a long shot as things stand today. That’s all to say conversations have taken place. This wasn’t pulled out of thin air, but it’s not something I’d sweat on March 23. This whole rumor seems to be founded on passing conversations for the time being.
Now, let’s get into conjecture. My gut says Jackson will sign with North Carolina based on simple logic as well as the fact that I know first hand how much the recruiting process and the attention that came with it bothered Jackson. I just can’t see him pulling the trigger on something like this and inviting a tsunami of attention that bothered him so much a few months back.
Even with Pitino in the driver’s seat, a flip from North Carolina to St. John’s is a risky proposition, and Jackson isn't the type of prospect that needs to take that kind of risk. That said, I’ve seen stranger things happen. I wouldn’t dismiss it entirely, but I wouldn’t start losing sleep just yet. Nothing is imminent.

The "open to hearing about it now" comment makes me a tiny bit nervous.

If you compare UNC vs St John's that seems like a no-brainer. Then again, I'm a UNC homer. To a kid who played in NY, St John's might sound just as good. I have no idea.

OTOH, when you compare Davis and Pitino, it's less clear. These kids seldom seem worried about past transgressions - although their parents might. Instead, they are looking at who is going to give them great coaching. Pitino has a long track record to look at and I think a lot of kids might lean his way.

The good news is that Jackson has already committed to us. I think it would be harder to flip from Hubert to Pitino after committing than it would be to pick Pitino if we were back in the days when his recruiting was still wide open.

While it sounds better then it did two days ago.. he’s still 16 months away from stepping on campus. That’s a LONG time with pitino in his back yard and if he can turn around St. John’s quickly. Best case is try to get him to re class and come in now.

Definitely a long time. It's nice to hear him say he isn't going anywhere else, but it doesn't really mean anything this far out. I wouldn't put too much stock into anything he's saying right now.

Ian going on record in front of the whole world, shooting down these rumors, and confirming he's 100% committed to UNC is something GG Jackson never did.

And, even if he had done it, he could still get out of it and there would be no repercussions. $$$ is all that matters!

That would work. Or, at the least, get him to sign in the early signing period.

If any of our 2024 recruits don't sign in November, we might want to sacrifice a few virgins.

If the players are committed 100 percent to Carolina they will sign during the early signing period in November. As you stated if they do not sign, then there is reason for concern.

Apparently, it’s Caleb Love that Rick Pitino wants and NOT Ian Jackson. Pitino has always been a big fan of the 3-point shot and he thinks he can work on Caleb’s shot and turn him into the best sharp shooter in the game:

Rick Pitino Looking for Love!
Funny... But that would be very interesting to see. As much as we may disparage Pitino on other counts, nobody doubts his coaching chops. That might be perfect for Caleb. And the good news is we wouldn't have to face him (unless in a tournament).

Then again, it would be hard to take if we got knocked out of the NCAAT by Caleb lighting us up from deep.

Chances are about the same as winning the lottery. LOL !!!!

First of all, Barnes is 68 years old. Secondly, he’s average. He’s .500 in the NCAA tournament and has been to only 1 FF. And he’s had some really good teams. I do like the way his teams play. But other than him beating us repeatedly, he loses big games. And I’d be lying if I said him getting in Dean’s face hasn’t stuck with me.

I like Billy Donovan a lot.
"I do like the way his teams play" yeah, that is my point I personally like a more physical brand of ball, I wish we played more physically, at times this past season, sorry Bacot but it did look "sweet" (not a compliment).

Yeah, the Barnes run in with Dean, sticks to me as well but he was a rather young coach going up against a legend and he is doing all he can to command his own level of respect, think his players would have followed him if they watched him back down to Dean? I didn't like it but I did understand it. I am under no delusion, neither he or McDermont will ever be considered to coach UNC. It was a question asking what my personal list would look like and it would have a lot of coaches that teach motion offenses, use a lot a ball pressure on D, get out and run, and play a intimidating brand of defense that takes anyone looking to drive the lane personally and sends the appropriate message that you may not want to do that next time if you are planning on eating a steak tonight. LOL

Speaking of coaches Dusty May will be a hot commodity after the season with the success which Florida Atlantic has had in this tournament. He's only 47 years old, with a chance to become a very successful coach at some P5 school.

If Hubert doesn’t work out, the first call should be made to Mark Few and he should be the primary target. Especially if he doesn’t have a national title with Gonzaga at that time.

I doubt he would leave, but yeah, you absolutely make the call and make him an offer that would make him the highest paid coach in college basketball.
