Seventh Woods Coach Speaks...

Whispers around town is Woods to the cocks. My opinion is the setting of a joint news conference with his team mate that is committing to another program in the state of SC would not be a joint announcement if Woods was going to commit to UNC, his team mate is going to College of Charleston and Woods keeps it in the state by declaring for the cocks.

Bad decision, not saying that because we are in the running but the kid really needs to get out from under mommy & daddy's thumb, 3hrs away is close for them to be at his games but not so close that he is still under their thumbs. I don't think he will or can enjoy the college experience nearly as much if he stays home, he surely will not win as many games but more so just as a college student, he needs to get out from under mommy & daddy's shadow.

Understand this, I have not said much about this kid simply because I am not as high on him as so many seem to be, I love his athletism but as a player, just not all that blown away by him. But I don't want to rain on the parade of those that really covet him, so I have stayed some what quiet in discussion that concern him. I personally see him as a 2 guard and I really feel like we are good at the 2 with kenny and Britt and would prefer to get our next 2 guard from the 2017 class. I am not blown away with the kid as a PG at all, just my opinion folks. Give me Coleman or Duval any day !

I didn't want to be the 1st one to say it, but my take was similar to yours wrt making the announcement with his teammate, both guys staying in state. And my twisted little mind took it a step further - what if SC told Seventh his buddy could come along to SC too??

I really hope we are both wrong. If Roy wants Woods on the team that badly, I want him at UNC too!

I wouldn't read too much into the joint press conference. We were a finalist for Top 100 SG LJ Peak, who also had a joint press conference with his 4 star football buddy Shaq Davidson. Davidson committed to the home team, Peak followed it up by committing to Georgetown. Are you guys expecting Woods to attend Midnight Madness?

Actually no, I don't think Woods is scheduled to be at Late Night but I could be wrong about that. What is the sentiment among SoCar fans about Woods looming decision?

I don't really believe in "whispers" if they haven't made it to the internet these days. I don't think anyone knows anything besides him and his parents.

We felt good after his visit, but fully acknowledge that Roy had his in-home afterwards and Roy is one of the best in the business. We have Lamont Evans (our best recruiter) on his case, but it's hard to see a lifelong UNC fan telling Roy Williams no after 4 years of recruitment. We put the hometown push on him (spent a lot of time w/ local 2015 McD All American PJ Dozier, showed him how Dawn Staley has built her program with local talent, etc). I truly believe he was torn and had he made a quick announcement, we stood to get his commitment. With such a large time gap between the visit and his announcement, my gut tells me that 7th's lifelong dream might outweigh his family's wishes, but just a guess.

Edit: I will agree with others that feel that 7th is a little overrated..........but I think in the more recent rankings, he is appropriately placed (moved down from top 12 5 star to mid 30s 4 star). His dunk highlights built up too much hype for him to live up to as a 9th grader. That said, he is the perfect weapon for UNC's offense.........and it's much easier to develop lead guard skills than elite athleticism.

Funny how following recruiting can be. Because I'm equally pessimistic. I saw some tweets of his after the flooding that showed he had a real close connection to the Columbia community. Made me feel as if he was staying home. I guess we'll see.

Please stop by anytime.

What is this? A rational, coherent, unbiased comment on this board from someone who isn't a UNC fan? You must be lost :)

All really good points, please teach those Duke and UK trolls some tact.

Wow you guys sure are sensitive! It takes so little for you to get depressed, but a mountain of good news for even the slightest optimism. Giles and markkanen have no bearing whatsoever on Woods. They have never been connected in any way until now. We got two very good pieces of news, one bad piece that was a surprise and one that wasn't-so to me we are still in the positive. We have some great recruits coming to LNWR and I expect some very good news soon!

More good news is on the way, I do believe... As for Giles, he NEVER was coming to UNC. Furthermore, Markkanen ended up where he could get the PT that he wants. UNC is fine as far as I can tell...

Sounds like Seventh will be in attendance for Late Night w Roy......disturbing news for the home team.

Yeah, we're feeling pretty good about this news obviously.

That said, long time until November 11th. I still don't think this one is a done deal, but I'd definitely lean our way now whereas I thought it was 50/50 after the visits.

More like 98/2 at this point, would project a silent commit tomorrow night

I think the LNWR visit is a great sign but nothing to mean he is definitely coming to UNC. I mean, it is going to be a cool event with a bunch of people and a great atmosphere. Still, it is a good sign for sure.

Oh no...not another silent, silent commit...I loved Animal House but the double secret thing is getting to me!

Agree with dadika, our guest, yoUSCared, posted a rational, coherent, unbiased comment on this board. Unheard of in some cases but very welcome here.

Somebody send him some Video of Frank Martin coaching @ Kansas State. Maybe he likes a Coach grabbing him by the Jersey and screaming in his face during a game. If that is what he wants God bless him.

Hope so . but he may have told Roy thanks for recruiting me but i am staying home.

Word out of SC says that he was at LNWR for like 30 minutes before leaving. Spent the day at SC on Saturday. Could be just wishful thinking on that board but they seem to think this weekend was very successful in their cause.

He will go where he will go. He can come to UNC and challenge for National Championships or he can go to SC and make the local folks happy.

He can't have both, or at least he can't really hope for a NC at SC. I do suspect the local folks will come around if he chooses UNC and represents well. Just my 2 bits.

I don't post a whole lot on the South Carolina board, but figured I would throw this in.

Seventh is coming to South Carolina. I have a really good connection with someone close to him and barring something changing, he will be a Gamecock. Coach Martin has already been informed.

If true, he came to Late night to inform Roy but I highly doubt he would do that at Late Night

Just don't see 7th giving Martin a silent verbal and then attending LNWR. That just makes no sense at all. And if I'm going to disappoint the home crowd, I prefer to do so at a PC with another of my buddies who's also committing elsewhere, it helps deflect some of the heat.

I'm just passing along some information from someone I trust a lot.

^ This does not conflict with the "rumors" I have been hearing. Let me say, nothing but rumors, nothing concrete to the extent I would call it a lock one way or the other. One issue that keeps coming back up is this kid and his parents really buy in to the notion that the kid is good enough to be one & done. When you look at things under that lens you see the thought that maybe spending that one season of college ball across town from mom & dad would be appealing. If he feels like he is making a short term decision availability of PT, especially the ability to start combined with being close to his parents and their being easy able to attend all his home games would be hard to over come.

I don't mean to bust any bubbles nor am I willing to call this one over, just honestly feel the odds are not in our favor. Now I do have a couple more thoughts on this but I want to withhold them until his college destination is known.

As Dean said, and I hope Roy said the same thing. "We will win with you or we will win without you" . Would love to have 7th, but if he chooses SC I hope he can lead his team to some wins over Kentucky. The Heels will be just fine.
