the high ball screen iso NBA offense is an easy free flowing offense to teach and you can sell guys on the flexibility of it aka position-less basketball that is the new crave. that’s what Hubert has sunk his money in. that being said, it’s not terribly hard to defend and really comes down to your ability to create your shot or hit tough shots around the basket. we simply aren’t very successful right now on either of those fronts hence our offensive struggles.
our defensive struggles are all over the board. RJ is a little body that physically can not compete with elite level size. he just can’t. Caleb is doing a piss poor job stopping dribble penetration. we go as these guys go. we simply won’t be successful if they can’t keep opposing guards out of the paint. Nance better find some arc on that shot and learn to box out on the defensive end, he’s been atrocious in the 4 spot on the glass defensively against quality bigs. Leaky is Leaky. great length that allows him to compete but outside of that he’s really nothing. i said it before and i’ll say it again, it was certainly the right move for leaky to choose to come back and play another year, but it was the wrong move for the program. it was time to move on to another in that group of Puff and Styles to see what outcome we could get.
i wasn’t a fan of this team last year even during the run i knew we were high risk high reward, and it’s much of the same this year. no consistent effort or consistency on both ends of the floor, hence the outcomes that ranged from 20 point blowout losses, to runs like they had to get to the title game last year. it really defies logic.
