UNC vs VIRGINIA TECH GAME THREAD

Another horrible loss and now we're feeling the effects of poor post player recruiting. Won't get much better next season as Roy has failed to sign a true post player in the 2018 class.

Our best offense is "pass it around the perimeter until Berry takes a semi-contested 3"
Berry should have passed the last one to an open Luke.

And..... I am definitely going to start pushing Luke shooting threes even more. He is shooting >50% on them for the year for goodness sake. It's the best shot our team can take to this point.

We just aren't that talented. Berry as our #1 option on the perimeter is not a good thing. Not trying to bash Roy but he's just standing there and rolling out these lineups to get stomped on. I said I don't see how this board was so ecstatic after we beat ND by 1 and thinking we are a final four team. Imagine if we were without Berry and Maye - no chance in helll ND only beats us by 1. Hopefully we finish top 4 in the ACC

It is why we are never drawing fouls. How do you draw a foul shooting a jumper 20 feet away.
This is why I don't understand some fans wanting to stand pat with this current roster. Try to add EJ Montgomery or whoever you think can help. Looking for Manley or Brooks to develop is fine, but they can develop with more competition. It'll be Luke's last year anyway, and I don't have a ton of confidence Brooks will become the player he is at the four. Maye has become a pretty special scorer.

Roy played right into VT hands tonight playing small ball. VT is a team full of midgets that can't defend the post but Roy refused to play the bigs tonight. Florida St. killed VT in the post the entire game.

I am almost behind a moving Williams to the bench starting Felton at the point, Berry at the 2, Cam at the 3, Pinson at the 4, and Maye at the 5.

And Felton has been pretty awful this year. Berry just slow trots up the court too much killing our fast break and is no threat to pass if he drives so no draw back yo collapse on him. Felton gets it up faster. Albeit recklessly.

Disagree. This is a good team. Just not a great one.

Sometimes good teams have days where they look awful.
I agree. The numbers say otherwise, we are pretty good. This was always going to be a tough game. We've already beaten four top 25 teams.

They can't guard the post, but we can't score in it. Do you really want to be posting up Brooks and Huffman?

You don't have the roster spots for it.

We clearly have a spot for it. We were ready to add Zion 48 hours ago. Either Cam leaves early, someone transfers, or someone is willing to give up a scholarship. But Roy clearly knows one is coming open somehow.

Brooks has not shown enough to rely on him as a starter IMO. Manley looks more promising, but adding a good post recruit makes a lot of sense to me.

The reason Zion didn't come here was because of roster spot issues.
This is wrong. Even if the reason he didn't come here is because of our depth (which I doubt for the record), we clearly have another scholarship available to offer.

It's common sense that we would've beaten Duke for a recruit for the first time in almost a decade?
It is common sense we never had a chance due to roster issues.

Zion can't play the 1. So that's one spot out to woods or Felton.

We know full well Roy does not bench a senior Maye, a senior Williams, or a senior Cam.

So that is 4 spots gone.
Meaning you leave 1 spot open. If going big, Manley is your 5th starter. If going small, Nassir or Zion would be your 5th starter.

Why would Zion come here to play a lot less minutes versus 30 a game at Duke with a red carpeted starting spot.

We never had the roster to win that offer.

I'm with this. I know Williams is one of our best defenders but Felton is our future and I think it's time he gets the minutes. If there is a chance that he will be the man running the show next year, do we really want to have the take the learning bumps next, or get them out of the way this year, so the that he will be ready next year? I say it's time to switch it up a little.

He'd've played in the mid-high 20s, starting alongside Luke Maye.

This is not relevant to adding a post recruit, which is what I said. The guy doesn't have to start his freshman year.

Poor decision to go under the screen guarding Justin Robinson. Gives up a wide open three.

A lot of our guys seem to do that. Felton also had a nice steal, that lead to a 2-1 fast break. He should have played more tonight IMO, seemed under control, and the offense had a few quick buckets due to it.

I think he should at least get more minutes at the 2.

A top 50 post recruit is not going to want to come to UNC to sit and with the logjam of big guys by a school going small and with Luke Maye as the guaranteed starter. Where do you even slot as a big guy? 4th on the depth chart behind Maye Manley and Brooks? Maybe 2nd if you are leaps and bounds better than them? The roster is not made up to be agreeable to a top recruit. And why come here as a top recruit if you won't play a lot? And why add another low ranked post player when you are littered with them already.

Taking 3 last year was a terrible, terrible idea from a roster standpoint.
