Women's Basketball

This team has been competitive in all of their losses, but they do not have that one player who can control a game which UCONN has. Hate to say this but they could have use Adams this year, she's doing a fantastic job at Rutgers. Have not researched KTW at Ole Miss lately, but she was not playing that many minutes there, not sure why. Not sure why Keys has not been playing, she seems to be on the injury list more than the active list? This team has a lot of work to do in order to make the tournament this year.

Reviewing the stats from the players who departed the program and are at new schools this year. The team could have used Adams this season, she is playing well at Rutgers. Wishing them both success going forward.

(1) Destiny Adams is a guard for the Rutgers Scarlet Knights women’s basketball team. She is a junior and stands at 6’3" tall. As of the 2023-24 season, she has scored an average of 13.6 points per game, grabbed 7.9 rebounds per game, and made 2.2 assists per game. Her field goal percentage is 56.1% 1.

According to an article from The Scarlet Faithful, Adams was a valuable defensive player for the team. She averaged 1.5 steals and 0.8 blocks per contest in 17.2 minutes over 33 games played. She also shot 58.3% from two-point range 2.

(2.) Kennedy Todd-Williams is a senior guard for the Ole Miss Rebels women’s basketball team 1. She was born in Jacksonville, NC and is 6’ 0" tall 1. In the 2023-24 season, she has played in 5 games and has scored an average of 6.4 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 0.8 assists per game with a field goal percentage of 29.7% 1.

This data was copied from the official sites of the teams which they are currently on.

Well it will soon be game time for the Carolina women, as they take on Oklahoma at 9:00 pm. Let's hope they are able to secure a win tonight, it's been a tough stretch for them over the past week or so. Playing top notch competition and falling short on some close games.

Well gave up 23 points in the 1st qtr but Oklahoma shot 1-26 from 3 pt land and UNC does just enough to secure the 61-52 victory in what could be considered a very ugly foul prone contest from what I was able to see!!!

Agree with you assessment above, this UNC team had 23 turnovers for the game, not going to be able to win many in conference unless they reduce this in half. Still not a very good 3 point shooting team 3 for 15 a 20 % clip, yet Oklahoma shot 1 for 26 a 3.8 %. Have not given up on this team, hopefully they will improve as the season gets underway.

Opened up Conference play yesterday with a 82-76 victory over Clemson… Looks like we shot the ball better(especially Utsby, Kelly and Donarski) yesterday so maybe we’ll see that continue throughout conference play

It was a good win, the team still has rebounding issues as do the men's team which will not be rectified until they get a legitimate post player. They are going to have a rough time containing State, ND, Louisville, and Syracuse this year due to the lack of rebounding. But they have a lot of fight in them and determination, that will carry them a long ways.

Congrats to the UNC women's basketball team with a win over 25th rank Syracuse 75 to 51. Ustby lead the lady team with 16 points, 16 rebounds and 10 assist, playing at a high level this season. Upcoming games against ranked teams at ND ranked 16th and at Florida State ranked 22nd.

Kelly still struggled tonight shooting but a great 3rd qtr where Syracuse only scored 6 points blows open a close game at halftime

Have to agree with you, Kelly has not played well this season. Her shooting percentage is way down, even though she get to the FT line a lot, it's down as well. She's in a slump and has been for most of the season, not good for a player to shot over 15 shots or more a game, and only convert 3 or 4 shots. This team will only be as good as Kelly leading the way, the others players are playing exceptional well. Let's hope she has a breakout game against ND and Florida State, the team is going to need her to step-up.

Great win by the Carolina women at ND tonight 61 to 57, this is two games which they have won against ranked opponents. They defeated number 25 Syracuse 75 to 51 at home, and defeated number 16 ND at their place today. Women's team is currently 3-0 in the ACC and 11-4 overall. Currently tied for first place in the conference with VT, after they surprised NC State women team today.

Seen it was also their first true road game of the season and their first ever win at ND… Nivar came up big tonight in the 4th qtr to help secure the upset win… Another road trip against a Top 25 team in FSU Thursday but I will imagine we will be ranked as well this week

The women's team had an 81-68 victory at home on Sunday afternoon against UVA, next is a tough game at GT on Thursday night. Currently, they are 4-1 in conference play and 12-5 overall.

Kelly and Utsby lead UNC to 73-68 win on the road tonight against Georgia Tech… Seems like Deja has come to life the last couple games but Donarski has struggled lately.. Big game coming Sunday at home vs Louisville

Watched the game through it entirety, you are correct in your assessments above. There were a lot of upsets in the ACC last night, and for a while it appeared that Carolina might be one of them. Just a couple of things which are worth mentioning about the women's team. This team should not be a the bottom of the league in FT shooting percent, Kelly surprise me last night, going to the line in the latter minutes and knocking down some one and ones. Before that she was only a 64% FT shooter, kudos to her for stepping up. Banghart needs to find some scorer's in the portal for next season, they do not have any knock down shooter except Kelly. Do not be surprise if Paris transfer out after the season, since she has become an after thought in the rotation. Mainly it's her defense, and focus which has been lacking.

Ok it has to be asked is it time for a change in coaches?
I would say no… She has gotten some really strong recruiting classes last couple of years but also has seemed to be but by the injury bug a lot over the last couple seasons…

Agree great recruiting but very little for that to show for it regardless of the injuries

This has been an up and down team this season, Kelly will play good basketball for a couple of games, then she shoots them out of the game against UVA. Not bashing her, she a fantastic player but she seems unaware that when here shot is not falling, contribute in other areas such as setting up teammates. No doubt the injury bug has been problematic issue with the Lady's team. Does anyone know what's the status of Pauline Paris, is she on the injury list with MacPherson?

No knowledge of Paris's status. It seems like she wasn't getting the playing time and then she did and then now not. Maybe injury, but that's disappointing bc I felt like she could really play.

We need a deep threat badly. That would go a long way...

Two of the incoming recruits who could have contributed this year, are taking a redshirt year. Paris must be injured, since Reniya Kelly is playing most of the minutes at guard opposite Deja Kelly. Reniya has shown great skills as a freshman, been pretty good in all aspect of the game.

Well the women fought hard last night, but fell to NC State in Raleigh 63 to 59. With all the injuries they have had this year, it all depleted their depth, and they are running on fumes mostly in the fourth quarters of games. One note from the game against State, Carolina only went to the FT line 5 times, and made all 5 of them, but on the other end of it State went to the line 16 times and made 12. The foul disparity is what cost them the game, and not having an inside option for scoring.

Hard to believe that neither team scored in the last 4 1/2 minutes of the game other then 1 State FT make with 8 seconds left

Unfortunate stretch for the lady's team, having lost 3 games in a row. Lost to VT at home in overtime 70- 61., VT scored more points in OT, (16 points) than they did all four quarters of the game. This goes back to the injuries which Carolina has had, and a depleted bench of contributors. This team lacks offensive players who can score, Deja Kelly is an outstanding player, but when a player shot 24 times and only make 6, and they take 36 percent of the shots it's a losing formula. Granted she did make 13 of 14 FT's, kudos to her on that. There next game is at home against Duke on 2/11/2024, currently their record is 15-8, and 7-4 in the conference. Need to snap this 3 game losing skid against a Duke team who is playing well lately.

Banghart is going anywhere not time soon, she signed an extension if I am correct last season. Her biggest challenge is keeping enough players healthy to have some depth. Have always believe that two of Carolina's weakness are inside post players, and outside shooters. These are areas which Banghart seems to have been trying to address.
On a different topic regarding the ACC, with Stanford coming into the league this has to improve the status of the league in women's basketball. No doubt Stanford can flat out play, and recruit elite talent.

Not saying fire her but I do expect more from her with the talent and this is UNC not Princeton

Understand, you are not satisfied with the on court success. Granted they have not been able to get pass the first round in the ACC tournament the past few years, and some of that has been contributed to injuries' of key players. Do not expect much this season, but if she can get everyone healthy next season should be the year for them to excel. Guess time will tell.

They have some serious issues with scoring, when Deja and Ustby shoot 8 for 33, not going to win many games. Banghart needs to find some scorer in the portal this off season, if not this team will continue to thread toward a middle of the pack or with the lower place teams in the ACC. Give them credit they play decent defense, but have too many scoring drought to win many games.
They are currently 15-9, they have six more game remaining in the regular season, predicting they will finish 18 -12. Since they have not won an opening round game in the ACC tournament in a few years, that leave them at 18-13. Will that be enough to receive an invite to the NCAA tournament, seriously doubt it. Guess we will see if they are able to recover, it's hard after losing 4 straight consecutive games in a row.

The women's team won at Wake Forest this evening on WF senior day. Was not pretty but a win never the less 58 to 50. The Carolina women had 24 turnovers, very sloppy game, even though they shot over 50 per cent from the field, they had 25 free throw opportunities but only connected on 11 of them for 44 per cent. Probably one of their worst game of the year, fortunately it was against the worst team in the league. To Banghart credit this team has been maligned with injuries this season, Deja Kelly is the only guard that has been able to stay healthy, all the other guards are out with injuries. With all this being said, unless some unforeseen circumstances happen this season, do not expect them to get pass the first round in the ACC tournament, and if they make the NCAA it will be an early exit. Holding out for better things from the women's team next season. Really hope that Banghart will be able to find success, and lead this women's program back to being relevant, and challenging for the upper echelon of the ACC.

We've made the tournament every year she's been here and been recruiting well. Let's hold off before we write the obituary on the women's program.

Understand your point, ( Carolina has not gotten past the first round of the ACC tournament the past several years, have not advanced beyond the second round of the NCAA tournament the past several years) reason this team has been riddled with injuries about every season that Banghart has been here. They have played some teams tough, only to lose in the final minutes or overtime. Depth at the guard position has been a major factor which has impeded this team progress. This team is a middle of the pack team this season, and any expectations of achieving any higher standards are not going to happen this season. Truly believe with Toomey being ready after redshirting this year, and some of the guards getting healthy, and with Blanca coming in they should be a contender for ACC regular season next year.

I think because she's recruited so well and has made the tournament every year people tend to forget where we were before she got here. We were in a bad spot and she has turned that around. We obviously want UNC to win championships, but we are significantly better than we were when she walked in.
