• Carolina won its 10th straight game for the first time since winning 11 in a row in 2016-17 (the last six games) and 2017-18 (first five games).
• The Tar Heels are 5-0 on the road in ACC play.
• This was the fifth consecutive ACC road game this season the Tar Heels held the home team under 70 points. It is the longest-such streak since 1982. From 2/11/1980 to 1/23/1982 the Tar Heels allowed fewer than 70 points in 13 consecutive ACC road games (the Tar Heels went 10-3 in those games).

• Carolina won despite tying its season high with 17 turnovers (in the loss to Kentucky). The Seminoles scored 26 points off those turnovers, the most by an opponent this season (Kentucky scored 19).
• The Tar Heels committed 12 first-half turnovers and only five in the second.

• Carolina outrebounded FSU, 41-32, the ninth straight game UNC has outrebounded the opponents (won all nine). The Tar Heels are plus 122 on the boards in the nine games.
• Carolina has led by double digits in all nine ACC games. UNC beat the Seminoles by eight points at home and seven here in Tallahassee, the only two ACC games the Tar Heels have not won by double digits.

• Carolina has allowed 70 points or fewer in 10 straight games for the first time since 2006-07.
• Carolina had a 10-0 run in the first half, the 14th time in 20 games UNC had at least one 10-0 run (UNC is 12-2 when it has a 10-0 run).
• RJ Davis scored a game-high 24 points. It was the 16th time he led UNC in scoring this season, 13th time he scored 20 or more points and the 10th time he was the leading scorer on both teams.
• Davis made two three-pointers, extending his school record to 17 consecutive games making multiple 3FGs.
• Elliot Cadeau scored a season-high 16 points. He had 14 in the previous game vs. Wake Forest, marking the first time he has scored in double figures in consecutive games as a Tar Heel.

• Cadeau made a season-high eight free throws (in nine attempts).
• Harrison Ingram had 13 points, 17 rebounds, three steals and one blocked shot. It was his sixth double-double of the season (he had five in two seasons at Stanford) and the sixth time in the last eight games he had 10 or more rebounds.
• It was Ingram’s third 15-rebound since the start of the new year. He had 15 at Pitt, 19 at NC State and 17 in Tallahassee.
• Ingram made three 3FGs, the sixth time this season he made three or more, and the first time since he made three vs. Charleston Southern on December 29.
• Cormac Ryan made three 3FGs, all in the second half. It was the fifth time he made at least three 3FGs this season.

UNC vs Boston College game thread on the CW on Saturday 20 January 2024

Some different things for this game. The contest will be on the CW channel which everyone does not have and it has a scheduled tip off at 2:15 pm in Chestnut Hill…

BC is not having a bad year as they come in 11-6 overall and 2 up and 4 down in the ACC…

They have three starters scoring in double digits lead by their 7 foot center Quinten Post who leads the team with 16.9 ago and 7.4 rpg. He reminds me a lot of Flipowski of Duke as he is a dual threat inside as well as outside and is hitting 41.7 from downtown. Bacot, Washington, Ingram and Withers will probably all get their opportunity to slow the big man down a bit.

Claudell Harris at 6.3 and Zaeden Zachery at 6’2 are his backcourt mates and they are presently averaging 15 ppg and 12.2 ppg. They also can shoot the three.

BC on paper are better than Louisville and they are playing at home in front of a sold out arena so I for one think this basketball battle will be much closer than the experts have picked. Whoever wins the battle in the paint between Bacot and Post will probably be the decisive factor on who wins. In a shootout that goes down to the final couple of minutes I believe Carolina behind Davis and Ryan clutch free throws will prevail by about six points…

Kendre' Harrison - 6'8" 2026 PF(Reidsville,NC)

I'm hearing the young star from Reidsville, NC is tearing it up right now on the AAU scene. And this after averaging 20/15 during the HS season.
He's also a blue-chip TE recruit in football with early offers from Georgia, hoops offer from Texas A&M.
Any Reidsville folk around here seen him play?

Tez Walker NFL Draft Scouting Report

Tez Walker NFL Draft Scouting Report

Tez Walker fits the mold for an NFL outside receiver. Walker thrives off his vertical speed to generate big plays in the passing game, tracks the ball in flight nicely, and makes routine over-the-shoulder catches, showcasing his concentration and hand-eye coordination. His ability to generate separation with his route-running without speed needs improvement. (The Draft Network)

Games from the past

I was watching the 1977 National Semi- final between UNC/UNLV this morning on the treadmill. It was a 84- 83 Carolina win.
I was surprised by the amount of turnovers in the game, especially by Phil Ford as I was watching.
I checked the boxscore after the game and Carolina committed 27 turnovers in this game! Phil Ford had 9!!!!
We often lament about how today's basketball teams are not as good as past teams, although the players are better.
It was hard to watch this game and think teams of the past were better than those of present day. This was not a very well played basketball game lol.
My grainy memory of this team took a hit watching this reply.😒

Quick stuff (Wake game)...

...and rolly-polly got hisself out-coached (more on that below)...

Arright... some mofo snuck into the Dome and put a lid on on our basket, but once we opened the seal it wasn't long before game over. But here's the thing --- I could see that coming because we were out-scheming them and playing as good a brand o' D as we've seen, even when our shots weren't falling.

- Let's start there: I hate Forbes' dribble-drive-iso ball, but it can be tedious to defend with their fire-power and FT prowess --- you MUST play full-possessions with your FEET and not bail them out with reaches! To our guys' credit, we didn't give in or let up. Other than being able to pick on RJ early with Sallis' size advantage, NOTHING came easy for them. While we were missing good looks, Wake struggled to even GET looks.

- Again, great team defensive effort and we really cleaned up our rotations from Saturday. Individually, Mando has become SO damn good defensively in his old age, and EC flat did a number on his PG counterparts all night.

- We finally broke it open with defense and TEMPO. In that 2nd half ass-kicking when we hung 52 on em, 26 of those came in transition (!)... I also liked that we made an effort to play up-tempo in the second even when EC was out, which previously hasn't been the case. In general though, some of those second-half Secondaries were sick :).

- Controlled the boards vs a long team.

- Credit to the zebras for not biting on Wake's constant attempts to beg fouls by initiating contact on their shots. Other than two AWFUL calls (one on Cadeau and one on RJ) that gave Wake unearned FTs, the crew was solid.

- a VERY deceptive stat shows us with only 8 Assists, but (other than EC once again getting shorted by at least 2) the reason was the coaching thing I started with. I mentioned yesterday that we put in a play or two for each opponent that we've scouted and then hammer it. Tonight it was the high angled flair-screen into a 2-man game from the top. As you saw, Wake does NOT defend that worth a crap and Forbes didn't adjust as EC and RJ consistently got down-hill and our "little guys" were making layups. By my count we ran that action 16 times and got a bucket or FTs from it 11 (and could've been more with some finishes). Plus, RJ just ate em up on the mid-range floater that was there whenever he wanted it on the way to his career high.

- the other sweet coaching adjustment was getting the rock to Ingram for the RIGHT isos --- whenever he had redhead-boy on him it was taking candy from a baby --- while not forcing vs a taller defender.

- Finally, i love how this team never seems to let bad stretches get them into hang-dogging or forcing shots (like um, last season). These guys seems to realize that if we keep doing what we've been practicing, success will come.

Anyway, got past another Cormac ankle scare and stepped up to blow out a definite NCAA team. Now let's get rested and ready to rock again Saturday!...
