Carolina vs Notre Dame game thread 🧵Wednesday 22 Feb 2023

I really hate late games but it is what it is. The Irish almost beat Virginia last time out so regardless who the opponent is they are tough at home.

The Irish start three guards and it seems like Nate Laszewski ( a Carolina killer) has been there forever at a forward spot shooting three after three from the outside.

If there ever was a time for Bacot to have a monster 👿 game this should be it because I believe Ven Allen Lublin at just 6’8 will be assigned to stop him because Laszewski is to important to the offense to get in foul trouble.

Goodwin a lefty sharpshooter is the one player off the bench who can hit from downtown.

Nance, Black and Johnson HAVE to contribute something offensively to take the pressure off Davis, Love. Bacot to score all of the points.

This is a must game and everybody must be on the same page to start this 4 game gauntlet…

• Carolina trailed 27-19 at the half, its largest halftime deficit overcome to win since trailing Ohio State by nine on December 17.
• It was the first time UNC scored as few as 19 points in a half in a win since beating Purdue in Madison Square Garden on 11/25/1998. The Tar Heels trailed the Boilermakers, 26-19, at halftime but rallied for a 54-47 win in the semifinals of the Preseason NIT.

• It was UNC’s third-lowest percentage from three in a win. Carolina defeated LSU on 12/18/1996, when it made 1 of 16 threes (.063), and Gardner-Webb on 11/9/2012, when it made 1 of 12 (.083).

Most pertinent to us:

David Dale - "Since returning to Chapel Hill, Mack Brown has taken North Carolina to an Orange Bowl and an ACC championship game, yet it still feels like the Tar Heels have largely underperformed. When UNC lost to Texas A&M in the 2020 Orange Bowl, it felt like the program was on the precipice of something special, only for the 2021 season to be a complete disaster. Then the Heels found a genuine superstar at QB in Drake Maye and opened 2022 by winning nine of their first 10 games ... only to lose four straight to end the year. Brown has recruited well, but precious few of those blue-chippers have truly developed into stars. He has a potential Heisman winner in Maye, but the offense will also look a bit different with a new coordinator after Phil Longo left for Wisconsin. And the defense? Well, at least it can't get any worse. Brown is 71, and while he has shown no signs of slowing down, the window for UNC to climb from talented underachiever into a true playoff threat feels like it's starting to close."
