Does every qb REALLY have their best game versus the Heels?

I got to thinking about how us Heels fans always feel like the opposing QB has their best game of the year against us, so I put together the stats for every one that we played and how they fared in all their games so far this year. To summarize, this is what it looks like to me...

1. Moussa: had one of his better passing games vs UNC, but considering we're the only P5 that FAMU has played, you could make the case that it was his best game.
2. Brice: clearly the best game he's played all year - 6 passing TDs and his most rushing yards.
3. Grainger: not one of his best passing yardage games, but 3 TDs and one of his best rushing games.
4. Pyne: his best game - highest passing yards and tied for most TDs.
5. Wells: kudos to the Heels in this one as Wells had his worst game (or at least tied for his worst).
6. Van Dyke: clearly his best game - nearly 500 yards and 3 TDs.
7. Leonard: one of his two best games; basically a tie with total yards and TDs that he had in Temple game.

FINAL TALLY:
Best game: 4 (Brice, Pyne, Van Dyke, Leonard)
Good game: 2 (Moussa, Grainger)
Bad game: 1 (Wells)

Sad to say but the stats back up what we've all been seeing and thinking. I shudder to think what kind of numbers Hartmann will put up on us.

Comparing Nance to Manek

Stop it already! Manek was a real 3ball shooter with the smooth stroke. Nance has a weird 3ball stroke with a low trajectory. He may be just good enough to keep the defense honest. But unlike Manek, he’s not gonna get you a 3 when we need it under pressure.

What he is …is a very good low post player with an accurate jump hook shot. What troubles me is if he prefers the post then we will have a clashing of bigs down low like it was with Mondo and García.

Now if you could mesh Nance down low skills with Nickel’s 3 ball skills…then you will have a way better version of Manek.

Erin Matson's Final Regular-Season Game - @Duke (Field Hockey)

The greatest field hockey player to ever lace them up at UNC has her final home game today. #1 UNC (13-0) will host #9 St. Joseph's (12-3) today at 2pm on the ACC Network. After this, the Heels finish the regular season at Duke before playing in the ACC Tournament at Duke beginning Nov 1.

It is the final home game for the great Erin Matson. Here are a few notes about Matson:
  • Two-time National Player of the Year. (she will win this award again this year and become only the second player in NCAA Field Hockey history to win it 3X. The only other person to do it? UNC coach Karen Shelton)
  • ACC All-Time Career Points leader (2% more than the #2 all-time leader)
  • ACC All-Time Career Goals leader (28% more than the #2 all-time leader)
  • NCAA #4 All-Time Career Points scorer (76% of the all-time leader)
  • Team MVP 3 years in a row
  • Named #10 in the ACC's 10 Top Female Athletes of All-Time (Mia Hamm is #1, Kristine Lilly #7)
  • 2020 ACC Female Athlete of the Year
  • Closing in on UNC’s career assists record. She has 57, one shy of second place.
  • Had half of her pinkie finger blown off blocking a shot at Wake Forest in the 2021 season
This team is dynamite. Here are some notes about the team as a whole:
  • After a Labor Day weekend defensive meltdown that nearly cost them the game, the team went on a 4-game stretch where they outscored opponents 24-0.
  • The other Top 30 field hockey teams in the ACC are: #6 UVA, #12 SYR, #13 WFU, #17 BC, #27 Duke.
  • UNC has beaten their ranked ACC opponents by a combined score of 15-5.
  • In UNC's 13 games, they've faced 10 Top-25 teams.
  • UNC's program has won 9 national championships
  • The Freshman class is insanely talented, especially Ryleigh Heck.
Coach Karen Shelton has coached at UNC for 42 seasons. A friend close to both the field hockey and basketball teams says that Shelton reminds him of Dean Smith; the players are/were terrified of her/him. Both are socially awkward and will flat out put you in your place without really have to yell or cuss.
