2017 Recruiting Class Thread....

Yeah douche bag Harbaugh is taking the team to practice in FL for Spring Break and the SEC is irate. It sure will cost a lot of money and if they got so much $$$ maybe they need to be donating it to the 3rd world city of Detroit or to help the Flint water crisis instead of a trip to FL. Yikes what a state.
Not only is he taking them to Florida, he's taking them to the IMG Academy, where Ruiz plays.

Too be honest, the IMG Academy shouldn't even be allowed to exist. That is way too AAU/high school basketball for my tastes.

Isn't this kid from the same HS as Hatton the OL linemen we signed that uh..went back home? I saw a story that a UNC linemen looking to transfer was visiting Louisville and I think it was Hatton. I think he transferred to IMG.
He is from NJ, but he has been at IMG in FL the past year. Didn't Hatton attend a Catholic school? I think Ruiz was at Camden High when in NJ.

Okay Ruiz moved to Florida....gotcha. IIRC, Hatton played all four years at St. Joseph's (despite the awfulness that is Northeast high school football, New Jersey Catholic high schools are really good).

Hatton went to high school in New Jersey (Montvale, St. Joseph's I believe). I don't follow?
I remember Hatton talking about Ruiz and helping to recruit him to UNC before Hatton had his issue or whatever it was. Ruiz is from Camden but they were supposedly buddies.

Where are UNCGridironfanatic and Champ24? Both were regular Blitz posters and 24 always seemed to have good info from Charlotte and western recruiting areas.

rutgers fired Kyle Flood just 2.5 months ago, so I'm guessing that helps us with regard to the Vilain guy too. Lawler, Vilain, and Yetur Matos all in the same class would set us perty for DE for awhile.

good point. Sounds like he would love an offer. Fed seems to prefer taller DT's , Crawford is 6'1" but I think he blew them away with is strength and Dinkins is also 6'1" but those guys with low centers of gravity are tough to move in the running game.

I think it is all about what Chizik likes. Crawford and Dinkins were both committed before Gene Chizik came to town. So it is hard to tell what Chizik likes aside from the 2015 class with 6'3 Kyree and 6'4 Marlon. But then people say Riley Jordan will be a DT, and the coaches liked Dalton at DT....

This. The previous staff went for a lot of ''tweeners'' and ''short on measurables but tall on effort'' guys on defense.

NJ is worth recuitring every year
That if Hatton had issues with UNC/Fed it may not bode well for his buddy(Ruiz) and UNC. I never heard what Hatton's issue was did you?
Are you confusing Hatton with Cohen?

I'm thoroughly confused now, 58. Are you saying Hatton currently has problems with Fed/UNC or did at one point in his recruitment. Just FYI to jog your memory:

- Tommy Hatton is from New Jersey and redshirted last year. He'll be a RS Fr. this year. He was a 4* and like the third best center in the country per Rivals.
- Jared Cohen was a guard from Md. who was all gung ho to come to UNC and even worked with NFL players in the summer before his freshman year at UNC. Ultimately though, something didn't click and he decided to leave.

As far as I know, Hatton never had any problems with UNC or Fed. He seemed to love UNC thoroughly throughout the recruiting process by all accounts. Now if something has occurred since his time on campus, that would be news to me

apparently I have confused Hatton and Cohen....my bad.

We were going to take 1 C in that class, and we were down to Hatton and the guy from Charlotte whose name I now can't remember. We chose Hatton (the Charlotte guy went to Stanford).

I've never heard of any Hatton issues with the staff or other players or the school.

I had Hatton and Cohen confused.....my bad and apologies. Brian Chaffin was the one to Stanford.

Has the Greene Kid from Rocky Mount got a offer yet...Also kind of strange Grant from MC has not gotten 1...

Kinda surprised DC would move. Auburn is his alma mater. LSU must be paying him big bucks.

Yeah, and it's also possible that the state of Louisiana is in such bad financial shape that LSU doesn't even field a football team this year?...At least, that's what the new governor is threatening to do....

As for Auburn, this could be Malsahn's(sp?) last year on the Plains if he doesn't turn things around....Seems like a lot of his assistants are jumping ship before it sinks?

At least, NCM has his brother there with him when Malsahn gets run out of town after the season!

What's also strange is that new Auburn DC Kevin Steele left the same job at LSU?

Guess it's a tossup which SEC school will change Head Coaches, first?

Strange to say the least!

LSU and Auburn both churn through coordinators and position coaches. You're right that it's very possible one or both of those respective head coaches won't make it to opening kick of the 2017 season.

LSU football ain't going anywhere though. That was an incredibly dumb statement by their governor.

typical Dem pissing and moaning for a big tax increase. Does anybody seriously doubt the LSU alumni would let the FB season be canceled?

that's what happens when you have an incredibly dumb governor.

Welcome aboard Mr. Riley!!!! Love that we're getting DLmen!

The rumors are his academics need to be monitored carefully. Zero clue if that's true or not. That's just what some people on TOS said (i.e. take it with pounds of salt)

Forgot to comment on this earlier. By nefarious I thought you meant someone was interfering with the recruitment, asking for something in return, etc. There is some truth to the staff setting guidelines to make sure his grades are in line. It's just more difficult to clear admissions now. I think he'll be fine.

Greene has an offer I think. I think maybe Chizk prefers taller DT's.

We are definitely recruiting Greene. He has an offer, but I don't know if it's committable. And to be honest, I'm not sure where we stand with Gibson. I like both DTs from Mallard Creek.

With the way our DL fared against quality teams last season, I feel like you just need to take Gibson because you can't afford not to. If he doesn't pan out or if you get a log jam at that position you cross that bridge when you get there. Keep in mind you can always create separation between guys by redshirting one vs. letting one play as a true frosh. There's always ways to make the numbers work and injuries are always a risk. I'm not a coach but I say offer Gibson and take him if he wants in..

I second that. The kid has family connections to UNC.

I don't know how much support LSU will get from some of the biggest LSU boosters, since a lot of them reportedly wanted Les Miles out at LSU, and reportedly worked behind the scenes with the President and AD to get rid of him... Of course, that didn't happen?....Some of those folks with the big money will probably take a wait and see approach before they open their wallet up too wide to help?

Be interesting to see how it plays out, but I'm sure there are a lot of rival recruiters out there already telling recruits that it will be tough to play any SEC schools if they choose LSU with the school possibility without any teachers, state funding, and possibility closed, meaning Les Miles wouldn't have a job?

Of course, the LSU fans will never let the season be canceled as you mentioned above, but it will be interesting to see how the state handles the reported 2 Billion dollar shortfall in this year's Louisiana budget, and what happens if anything this year to the state's highest paid employee Les Miles who probably isn't unwilling to take a pay cut from a school that wanted to fire him last year?

I'm just glad that some other schools are having to deal with some negative garbage for a change, instead of Carolina!

Back to the topic!

I see we still haven't even offered Grant Gibson. Clearly the staff isn't just overlooking him, heck we're all over charlotte, offered his teammate at Mallard, etc. Any idea why we don't like him? He's 4* on one site, a 3* on the others.

Are we just being super picky or what? Maybe it is true that Chiz likes taller DT's. At least Marlon and Kyree are closer to 6'3 and 6'4, wihle I've seen Gibson listed just 6'1.
