2017 Recruiting Class Thread....

I see we still haven't even offered Grant Gibson. Clearly the staff isn't just overlooking him, heck we're all over charlotte, offered his teammate at Mallard, etc. Any idea why we don't like him? He's 4* on one site, a 3* on the others.

Are we just being super picky or what? Maybe it is true that Chiz likes taller DT's. At least Marlon and Kyree are closer to 6'3 and 6'4, wihle I've seen Gibson listed just 6'1.
The staff is certainly aware of him. He's not being overlooked.

Maybe grades but heard a player say we did the same thing. They wanted to come and we waited and it disappointed him but the staff said they wanted to make sure or some such. The player eventually committed even though he nearly went elsewhere.

Ocean Lakes (Virginia Beach, VA) hired a new head football coach last month - Hokie alum Joe Jones. We're going head-to-head with them for some big time recruits. It'd be nice to keep winning those battles. Chris Scott left for Bishop Sullivan Catholic.

Wonder how much of an advantage that gives the Hokies?

I expect they'll get the typical bump from hiring a new coach, and it certainly won't hurt them having a former player at a big in-state school like Ocean Lakes, though I've heard some of the local talent will be heading to Bishop Sullivan instead in the coming years. I think the overall degree to which their recruiting improves depends on where Fuente has them in year three. That area is recruited heavily, so it becomes increasingly difficult to sell a program unless it's really trending in a good direction.

T.J. Moore OT from Mallard Creek elevated to 4* from 342 to 237 and Hamsah Nasirildeen from Concord into top 150 on 247.

Lol. No, but I knew you'd be all over it. I actually like our chances if we could get him on campus because his leader changes after almost every visit and we were one of his early offers. Guess we'll just have to ride it out until signing day.

Bailey Hockman trending to the Heels. Crystal ball still shows UGa 53% but I can just about Guarantee he won't be going to UGa with the recent Jake Fromm flip from bama to Ga.

I've been calling him to Carolina for awhile. I'm actually a little surprised he hasn't already committed.
WE seem to be filling a team with GA boys. As GA plays great HS football, I'm all for that.

A couple or 3 years ago, I wrote a piece for Southern Pigskin on the Top 50 players from both GA and FL and where they signed. The ACC held its own against the SEC in signing top FL talent, but the SEC absolutely owned GA. I said then that any ACC team that began to recruit GA well would have leg up on most of the rest of the ACC and would be able to play head to head with the best of the SEC too.

Hopefully, we are seeing UNC do exactly that.

Right now you'd have to say that Clemson is easily the most impactful ACC team recruiting Georgia. UNC would be behind FSU, Louisville and even Duke. Theres a ways to go.

Yes , dook signed 3-4 players from GA with a higher ranking than our highest ranked GA signee. That must stop.

^ All of that is possible because UGA notoriously fails at keeping elite in-state talent. Maybe it will change under Kirby, but I doubt it will. It isn't all UGA's fault. Atlanta and its surrounding suburbs have little overall loyalty to UGA and virtually none to Tech, due to Atlanta's transient nature. No one in Metro Atlanta is from Atlanta or even Georgia, by and large. Thus, the area is completely up for grabs.
