2020 recruiting thread

Daily reminder that it would be useful to post a link when sharing information.

Anyway, love this offer. Jaden Springer's bitterness may keep him away from us and despite Bryce Thompson's connection to Coach Robinson, we have no idea where we stand with him atm. DJ's stock is probably about to explode and his ceiling is high. Also love that Roy isn't sitting on offers and waiting until the summer. Looks like he doesn't want to be caught in another 2019. Good signs all around IMO.
How is it that Puff is ranked this low? 6'7" with a 7'1" wing span with his brothers outside shooting stroke?

Corey Evans on Bryce Thompson:
However, if I were to forecast the future for Thompson, UNC would be difficult to beat if it was to make a hard push. Assistant coach Steve Robinson coached Thompson’s father at Tulsa during his own playing days, giving the Tar Heels an immediate ‘in,’ which is only aided by the program's need for another guard after the likely one-and-done campaign of Cole Anthony
.
hmmm...

I heard that we are currently in a live period. Has there always been one in May? If it has, I can't remember the last time we were this active during one. Seeing offers that usually come during July go out now. Extremely glad to see Roy no longer waiting until Summer this time around.

I agree that this proactive approach by Roy is great to see. Seems he’s getting ahead of his normal start time on offering the bulk of his targets.

It's from a story shared by staff on premi so I don't know if it's okay to share.
What do you (Rose and anyone else who cares to chime in) think about the reasonableness of this sort of bitterness? I guess I get why a kid would give a leg up to schools that offered him before he "broke out", but this is not a particularly late offer right? It's not like we're offering him after missing on a bunch of other guys.

Trying to understand why a kid would care too much about being offered early, so long as it comes before mid-senior year.

Not sure whether it's justifiable or not, though I was in the camp of those who said he should've gotten an offer sooner. If he had, I think we'd have been in the lead and maybe secured his commitment by now. But now, he's high profile and other schools on his list like Tennessee and Auburn who have been there longer than us are also starting to look more attractive than they did a year or two ago thanks to last season.

Is what it is. Too many fish in the sea right now to be hung up on just this one guy. And Roy doesn't seem like he's waiting around on specific players in this class. We'll win with or without him

In other news, Thompson just scheduled his 5th OV to Oklahoma. IDK if 2020 is the class where recruits can take more than 15+ OVs, but if not, I think that prediction may not have aged well.

We have how many schollys next year? 5 (4 if we sign another this year). 1 to Sharpe already.

Is this correct?

Anthony
Keeling
Pierce
Robinson

I’ll preface by saying I generally love your posts & your wit.

I just thought the comment was completely random. Maybe something about Theo’s motor or passing, but stepping out of bounds like Theo just seemed like a really random comment. If there’s an underlying meaning that I’m missing, my apologies.

No worries. We're are good sir.

I thank you for responding!!!!

Precious announced he’d be, “taking his talents to Memphis” haha
That team is gonna be loaded.

I am pleased with who UNC pulled this year. CA is gonna be electric in Roy’s system and I think it’s just gonna be downright exciting with all the new faces. Crazy. Is it fall yet????

And in another development in the '19 class, Bossi and Evans (experts ya know?) seem Jalen Wilson may he leaning to UNC. I'm glad to hear that but Bossi has a "package" with RJ Hamptonand Hampton has a soft spot for UNC...not sure about packages. Wilson, 6'6" forward and Hampton a 6'5" guard....I do not see at least one of these kids at CH, just not enough scholies left.
Evans seems to think Wilson may lean us due to the spot availability and PT...I would not mind Wilson as a Tar Heel.

and Hampton has a soft spot for UNC...

I believe what you are referencing is:

"Look for Kansas and North Carolina to be the front-runners with Jalen Wilson. Kansas was involved the first time around, has had him on campus, and are recruiting Wilson’s five-star point guard friend R.J. Hampton. UNC also is said to hold some appeal in Hampton’s mind as a place he always hoped to have a chance to play. I see Kansas and UNC at the top."

I'm fairly sure that was a typo and that they meant Wilson likes UNC, not Hampton. AFAIK, we've not been linked to RJ or vice versa.

C. Evans also said that if Rayjon Tucker stays in the draft, he may end up at Memphis and Hampton retweeted it. If that's the case, this could work in our favor as I don't think they are recruiting Wilson and are heavily overcrowded as it is. Without that, I think KU lucks out here due to our fairly stacked roster vs. their bare cupboard. If it had been a couple weeks earlier, things may be in our favor rn.

That was a typo. Hampton isn’t coming here not even considering UNC at this point.

Wouldn't blame Wilson going to Kansas. They have open spots. We have Pierce and Black at SF.

I’d say if we had missed on Pierce, we’d likely be a heavy favorite here. But we didn’t so that makes it a little more dicey.

I wonder if the Rush family is starting to sweat lol

Looks like school may be too strong a word. I'm not sure if Moravian Prep actually exists. Google has it's location listed as behind a UPS store in a random strip mall in Hickory. Seems like a basketball factory....

It’s legit as a prep school to help kids get scores needed to get into college or work on basketball instead of going JUCO or Community college route

That is pretty much the sign I would expect outside of every "basketball factory" prep school? Not saying this one is bad but this is how those talent mills bill themselves.

Right and Evans is floating the "package" Wilson/Hampton to KU,. Jerry Meyer still has Wilson thinking/headed to Mich, we'll see...

Josh Hall will be a top 25 kid he is the goods. He reclassed to the 2020 class to get stronger, bigger and get more offers, he has gotten the offers not sure how much bigger he will get because of body type. Dad is 7'0 and Hall maybe 6'8 or 6'9 guard who can really shoot it. Played on the EYBL last weekend to help CP3 and was one of most talked about players during the weekend flew back to play with Team Loaded that Sunday.
