2025 recruiting....

With the rise in the NBA salary cap, NBA contracts are going crazy. There are several players making $50 million for just the '24-'25 season. There are 27 NBA players making over $40 million for this current season. Those contracts are going to continue to increase.

One benefit of landing elite recruits is that they are more likely to make the NBA, and make insane amounts of money, some of which can be donated to support the basketball program and help with NIL.

At the moment UNC currently has 5 NBA players under standard deals (White, Johnson, Barnes, Anthony, Sharpe) and 1 two-way player on a non-guaranteed contract (Ingram.) Not only is this the least amount of UNC players in the NBA in most of our lifetimes, but none of these guys are anywhere close to max contracts.

With NIL it has never been more cyclical. Pay to land elite recruits, some of which go to the NBA and get max deals, which increases the likelihood that our NIL collective can fundraise from them, which gives us the money to land the elite recruits and transfers we need to continue winning at a UNC level.

What players are giving money back to the school they went to for NIL…Is this a thing now…

Braylon Mullins announcement today at 6pm at his HS. That time alone will give you a good idea that IU will NOT be the destination. If he was going to IU, he would announce during school hours in my opinion.
I have said for a month, that this is a UCONN vs UNC decision. It looks like UCONN, BUT.......I think we have a shot.🙂

"
Mullins’ recruitment feels absolutely massive for Indiana, which could use a dose of good recruiting news. There’s plenty of reason to believe the Hoosiers are an option, after all. The Indiana-born Mullins is from a part of the state in which the program typically has recruiting success, and head coach Mike Woodson prioritized the touted guard well before he became a major national prospect.

That said, the two-time defending champion Huskies are on a bit of a recruiting roll as of late and seem to be getting much of what they want on the trail. Add in the fact that Dan Hurley’s powerhouse program was able to snatch up one-time Hoosier commit Liam McNeeley last cycle, and you have a recipe for an intriguing grudge match of sorts.

North Carolina is also on Mullins’ list of finalists but feels unlikely to be the choice.

Mullins will announce his college destination on Oct. 22 during a ceremony at his high school."

Mullins seems redundant to Cade. I know they are different players but given the choice (having seen neither in a Carolina uniform), i'd take the Senior Cade.

Open to hearing how different they are outside of shooting (which is why Hubert wants them).

With the immense popularity and continued economic windfall the NBA has been enjoying, the workers 50% cut is growing with it. That puts an increased value to those up and coming talents as well in the basketball marketplace.

That's 2 shooting guards ranked in the 247sports top 25 committed to UConn. If McNeely returns for his sophomore year, that would be 3 elite shooters.

Supposedly unc is offering 350k for top talent ..... heck dooks water/towel boys make that much
If that's true, then what is the point of even recruiting five star guys? Hoping they'll take an 80-90% discount to be part of the family, etc? Like there would be no point in our talking with Wilson, et al, let alone AJ Dybantsa. Hopefully there's more to that story or it's just inaccurate.

That doesn't even sound remotely true! Why spread unsubstantiated rumors if they don't even sound plausible? If it is true, there is no need to recruit elite peeps and UNC should just put out a blanket statement saying something like: Come to UNC if you love the game; have a team first attitude; want coaching/support to maximize pro potential; want a life-long Family; a chance to win a Natty; and an opportunity to get a world class degree! BUT we aren't interested in mercenaries! And then simply wait for those who fit.

BUT since Hubs and his staff continue to recruit, and we know they aren't insane, I will assume this is just another attempt at trolling!

BTW: Trolls are a pathetic waste of skin who lack maturity, character, and class.

(assuming there are some on this thread)

UNC and Coach Davis have a set price on each player and what they think they are worth…They don’t do bidding wars and will not move off that set price…UNC is not the only school like that either…This kid was asking for something that no team in his final 3 thought he was worth…Will see how it plays out…

Also are other teams players doing stuff like this…I am not on instagram or X just see the UNC guys doing stuff like this because of UNC message boards…This was supposed to be what NIL was…Does Cooper Flagg have anything like this…Or any other High Ranked Prospects…

UNC 2025 offers recap (with rankings):

1. AJ Dybantsa - undecided

2. Cameron Boozer - dook

3. Darryn Peterson - cut UNC before final list

4. Nate Ament - undecided

6. Koa Peat - undecided

8. Caleb Wilson - undecided

12. Isiah Harwell - Houston

13. Jasper Johnson - UK

16. Braylon Mullins - UConn

19. Nik Khamenia - dook

21. Cayden Boozer - dook

25. Malachi Moreno - UK

27. Eric Reibe - UConn

31. Niko Bundalo - undecided

32. Acaden Lewis - cut UNC before final list

Per Sherrell McMillan we are down to a final four of Dybantsa, Wilson, Bundalo, and Denis. With all other options no longer considering UNC.

Its great and all to do those things if your Coach Davis and have those standards (not being sarcastic) but that's a DANM risky game to play this day and age and could backfire big time. For the life of me, I cant understand why Carolina has had soo many issues NIL wise, Correct me if im wrong, but isn't UNC chapel hill one of the best business schools in the country ?!?! Shouldn't they have been the freaking leaders in this new age....

I don’t think it’s a money issue at all…It’s a yea kid you ain’t worth that in our opinion…Like you said it may very well backfire in the end…Also think they feel like the money would be better spent in the portal on a experienced player…The thing is this model is not sustainable imo…

Here’s the problem. They didn’t spend it in the portal because they missed on every center prospect they recruited. They took scraps instead.

I understand and like I said in my other post…Coach Davis is not getting in bidding wars over a player…Those Centers in the portal all had agents trying to push each team to bid more…UNC is not going to do that…And like I said we will see how this works out moving forward…It very well could backfire and if it does and the play on the floor suffers we all know what will happen to Coach Davis…He will not get the same chances as old excuse man Mack Brown is getting…The Basketball People have no problem cutting ties with 1 of there own if he is not getting the job done quickly…

All Speculation on your part. No facts in anything that you have written. 🏀

Well, let's keep that in perspective. There was no Center in portal that was more than a backup/rotation guy here.

Now, don't get me wrong: I would've loved to have gotten a more physically formidable guy in that role, but the idea that we were needing some sort of upgrade for JWash was always off kilter.

FYI, while it isn't trchnically a "bidding war". we are very much in the Dybantsa sweepstakes (and have been for a while at a much higher level than the media portrays) and that will come with a hefty price tag, should we prevail.

Oh no doubt but another reason we are still in it is because of certain former players helping UNC out…We will see what happens…

Mullins did not take the biggest bag. IU was the clear biggest bag, and from what I've heard, UNC was bigger than UConn as well. So at least that one wasn't biggest bag.
