Trump was really good yesterday. It definitely look him too long to adopt this tone/attitude in my opinion but I'll give him credit for adapting to what's happening this summer.
i agree he did good yesterday but sure as hell wish he had talked like that months ago. Could have saved some lives and a lot of money.

The natural reaction to starting a fire is to try and put it out before it burns down your entire house.

Great point. I credit some advisor for realizing Trump's prior apathy toward covid was killing his polling and his precious economy.

Yikes - As many as a third of patients who were never sick enough to be hospitalized are not back to their usual health up to three weeks after their diagnosis.

"COVID-19 can result in prolonged illness even among persons with milder outpatient illness, including young adults," the report's authors wrote.

The acknowledgement is welcome news to patients who call themselves "long-haulers" — suffering from debilitating symptoms weeks and even months after their initial infection.

Among those surveyed between ages 18 and 34, about 20 percent experienced lasting symptoms.

I read that 150 healthcare experts are calling for another national shutdown.
That's going to be expensive since it will probably require more personal stimulus checks. What a cluster.

Don't shutdown parks and beaches, just shut-down indoor stuff, including meat-packing plants. I think we can sacrifice a few weeks of meat if it means the ability to have schools open at some point this fall.

I’ve known two people with it. My neighbor got it, had mild symptoms for couple weeks, then suddenly went down hill and died according to her husband.

a friend of my daughters got it along with her clique of several friends. All tested pos. She was the only one got sick but she was miserable for three weeks.

Hmmm...

But:
"Most Americans still believe the actual number of deaths is either higher (37%) or on par with (31%) the official count."

I'm not saying I agree with them. I'm simply passing along what is being proposed.

The country was never "shut-down" the first time. So, doing another half-assed shutdown seems like just bullshit posturing. Americans are not equipped to pull together in a crisis like this, especially now. Between protests, riots, and people crying about their constitutional rights being taken away by having to wear masks, it's pointless to do anything except let the virus infect and kill as many people as possible, or necessary. And, hope that the treatments can curb some of the damage, and cross your fingers for some sort of herd immunity. Americans prefer it that way, just like they did 100 years ago. Hard-headed and impatient, politically-divided, combined with an economy that is propped-up, a healthcare system that is available to only certain people, and a population that cannot afford to go a month without a paycheck means that any rogue virus is going to chow-down.

Our pastor and his wife had it. They have a two year old son that never came down with it. He got over it several weeks ago but his sense of taste and smell has not returned yet. Couple up the street tested positive but never got sick.

don't hyphenate 'chow down' like some rube.

Ark state sen Jason rapert who Called corona “the biggest political hoax in history”, spoke out against mask wearing, and who last Sunday attended church without a mask and Took pics with dozens of unmasked non social distancing teens there has been hospitalized with the virus.

Sad but true.

What's troubling about that poll?
The number of people thinks covid deaths are conflated is increasing. It's akin to more and more people thinking Armstrong on the moon was faked.

Total excess deaths is the number of deaths over a period of time that exceeds the normal, historical avg. Total excess deaths doesn't look at cause of death, just counts bodies. This spring and summer the total excess deaths is well over 150k, proving we're not over-counting.

There are more deaths now than on avg, if it isn't from the pandemic then what is it?

this was posted about by me recently in response to a resident alarmist who pointed out the increased number of deaths, insinuating them to be from Covid. The article he cited, but apparently didn't read, pointed out that only half the increased deaths were from Covid; the rest being from usual causes. Once that was understood, the actual purported increase in deaths from Covid was not very remarkable.

People been dying since the beginning of time. Y'all freaking out for what occurs everyday since Methuselah. I rofl when you bring out Bill Nye as your spokesman. Next thing you will be trying to tell me global warming is real. Jeez, you edumacated people will believe anything that supports your false superiority over everyone and everything. How bout this, how about you all kiss my grits!

I don't think the comparison to the moon landing makes sense. The moon landing either all happened, or all didn't happen. It's not like they landed on the moon, but didn't leave the lunar module, and then came home to tape the part about being outside the module.

I don't think anyone is saying that not a single person has died from Covid. I think it's incredibly unlikely that the Covid death count is 100% accurate. There have almost certainly been deaths from Covid that haven't been counted. There have also been reported cases where the cause of death was something other than Covid, but the person had Covid so it got marked a Covid death. I find it highly unlikely those two evenly net out. So then it comes down to which one you think has more instances as to whether it's overstated or understated.

Fact is, people are avoiding the emergency room and doctors because of the hysteria. Ergo, more are dying from treatable illnesses.

You’re Welcome!

It would be interesting to note how many people were already on death’s door and COVID-19 simply finished them off and how many people had ailments you can live with for years- diabetes, heart problems, hypertension- that otherwise would not have died were it not for this disease.

It’s thrown a lot of completely healthy people in for a loop. No denying that. There’s still a lot we don’t understand about it yet.

Perfectly reasonable take, but the people who believe that the numbers are being deliberately inflated to bring down Trump are a different issue.

You are ignoring the increase part.
The interestingpart is that plenty of people's skepticism is changing, most happen to be fox viewers.

An aside, I think your point about NET is ignoring the total excess part which has nothing to do w cause unless you believe Cletus'ses's theory above that massive quantities of treatable deaths are happening (and that somehow these avoiders of treatment are tagged as covid anyway).

There are more deaths in the spring than avg. Way more. So if "the rest being from usual causes" then why are there way more cancer deaths and other usual causes in the spring of 2020?

Strummingram is probably right, but this thread from Andy slavitt gives hope
if everyone could come to concensus:
