Jalek Felton suspended from the University

Here's a question:

If Jalek is found not guilty, or if the case is dismissed, or if there is some undisclosed out-of-court agreement, is the University obligated to reinstate him?

It's not that he's (probably) a murderer. It's that he's an easily-recognized example of someone found not guilty who most of us believe was not innocent.

We can have a personal verdict - a personal belief - that differs from the legal verdict. And we ultimately act on what we believe.
That comparison was out of line and has no place here. It's that simple.
And from the way this has degenerated from curiosity to judgement this thread would best slow its roll til we actually know something.

It would be all but impossible to punish someone for spreading herpes and have it hold up in court. Not that i want that to happen. If he did it i hope the vicitms get justice. BUT herpes is not always an std. It can be spread in other ways besides sex. So you are not legally required to tell someone u have herpes. Now morally yes. But his lawyer will point out any of the vicitims could have simply touched another contagious person and contracted it. I dont see any way felton can be dismissed from school or the team against his will if indeed this is the case. Now the sexual assault is of course a diff story. BUT if thats the case why hasnt he been charged with that. Unc is in a tough spot here. They dont want to appear like they’re protecting an athlete from sex charges. My guess is felton is ready to gtfo of chapel hill and theres some sort of behind closed doors plea deal where felton leaves school and doesnt face any charges or have details released. This is Assuming there was no sexual assault.

This could remind us all that we don't necessarily want every talented kid. I hope I'm wrong.

Cuz Roy was supposed to know that Jalek was a possible sexual deviant that may or may not have a non-curable STD?

What an idiotic response.

My point is actually to those who criticize Roy for backing off of kids for whatever his reasons.

1 in 5 people have herpes actually. A lot of the transmissions are from people kissing babies ironically.

I wonder whether there's a correlation between lack of discipline (Jalek's primary known red flag) and propensity to commit sex crimes. Can't imagine there really is. Even if Jalek is indeed guilty, I don't think this is a Roy shoulda known better type of situation.

Emmitt Williams, on the other hand...that's a real risk.

Again, there’s no way of knowing if someone is a sexual deviant beforehand.

Were there concerns about the kid or not? No one said Roy should have known but when he backs off because of his "feel" for a kid for lack of a better term, it can certainly be a blessing. Read the words not what you want them to say.

Except that situation doesn’t apply at all to Jalek so...

I was assuming these accusations were related to the genital type.

I certainly agree that the thread has degenerated. I just disagree with your interpretation of the OJ comment.

I see elsewhere that Seventh might suit up soon. He has a lot of catching up to do.

His last game was November 29 against Michigan. 4 points, 4 assists and 1 rebound against 1 TO and no fouls in 8 minutes. Not too shabby.

It would be nice to see him ease into the Pitt game (on the assumption that we won't be fighting for our lives in that game).

If he can get back up to speed fairly soon, that could help Joel.

I hate to look at it this way, but if Jalek is gone, I assume we can stop worrying about 7th transferring. Not sure how serious those worries were in the first place, but there was talk about the possibility.

Bros it isn't me that's worried about it. I was more thinking about it from his view point. Ultimately the sport is about the players way more than the fans. If not for the players this board is just rambling complaints.
I'm a woman, which I realize is a rare breed around here. ;) It's an easy assumption to make.

I agree it's about the players not fans. That's why I'll reserve my judgement, until all info is divulged. If he's innocent, UNC fans supporting him is all that really matters. Opposing fans will always find a reason to ridicule our players. We need to stand behind them, unless or until we are presented with actual evidence of guilt.

Cause the whole thing since post 1 has been little more than salacious rumor, speculation and tasteless innuendo that serves neither Jalek, the team or UNC well. And if Archer can't give me a like for using the word "salacious" then I'm gonna re-think my edumacation :D .. jmho
Man, I think we should close all the threads that speculate on what would have happened if we didn't save a time out, played someone else, or why recruits wouldn't come here.

Lol wtf dude. There is nothing wrong with discussing things regarding a player here. This is the UNC basketball board.

Nothing wrong with discussing things regarding a player as long as it's basketball related .. speculation and BS about unverified non-basketball / off the court student activity and suspension is BS and doesn't deserve the ish that's been posted here and is extremely unfair to Jalek, the team and the University. Grow the f' up chuck.

Let's see. Does it affect a UNC player? Yep! Sure does! Sounds completely valid to me. You need to stop thinking that conversation should only be regarding what you want. This is a UNC basketball board. If it relates to UNC basketball, it is on topic and valid to be discussed.

That includes HS students who may never come here, rival students, players, and pros who have in some way indirectly affected our program, ncaa policies, decisions in the state or federal level that affects University athletics (See: HB1 or whatever it was), possible coaches who we could look to take over the program or their behaviors affecting our program, and of course our players and coaches on and off the court.

I get it. You like Felton. You are upset. You want him to be innocent. As do we all. However, we are allowed to discuss it and speculate about it. No differently than about PJ Hairston or Leslie McDonald or the NCAA ruling / scandal, etc. Nobody here is saying Felton is a piece of shit and shouldn't be a part of out team. We are discussing what we are hearing regarding his situation, what we think is true or not and why, what we think his status going forward should be, and how it affects our team in various ways.

LOL . . yeah okay, Jalek is the one that didn't serve himself, his Coach and team very well, and because he didn't is the reason for this thread.

What this board has is one , two or 3 too many wannabe moderators . .

I think what @al would and others are griping about is that often these threads turn into the spreading of negative rumors from our own fans (and that it provides fodder to rival fanbases and arms them with ammunition to throw back at our program). It’s a bit more rational than just thinking certain folks are trying to censor the board. In other words, I think many folks don’t want threads like this shut down by moderators, they just want our fan base to be made up of people that want to protect our own interests, our players and our program. And they see threads like this as doing harm to our interests, our players and our program. I’m kind of in the middle on it. I don’t mind discussing it some but I do agree that threads like this often shine a negative light on our program.

I see your point, 'Slinger . . however, this board or any thread included is not a mandatory read. The option to skip over threads and just wait for a solid news update can be done by scanning the THI front page.

I don't like our Coach or team being trashed as much as the next guy, but hey, when folks like Hairston & McDonald do some dumb stuff, they are far worse than any fan's comments. Felton's case may be a little different . . we'll see.

I try not to speculate on very controversial things when the evidence is minimal, which I think we can all agree applies in this case. We have the young man accused of everything from sexual assault to knowingly spreading STD's. Yet there have been no official accusations, to my knowledge. And both of these could effectually ruin his life. He deserves the same consideration we would afford any other person, be it our brother or a complete stranger.

It is sad that we seem to rush to judgement and think the worst of people and yet seem so hesitant to see the good in people. Perhaps it's because "bad" sells and "good" is deemed old fashioned.

Regardless, I will continue to try and see the good in people, while admitting there is a baser side to us all.

You guys might check this out. If you knowingly pass on any STD it is an assault in the state of NC.
https://www.criminaldefenselawyer.com/resources/transmitting-std-north-carolina.htm

The law was in response to and targets hiv pos people having sex. I’m no lawyer but it seems next to impossible to apply to someone that has herpes. You would have to prove someone knew they were in contagious phase and the victims hadnt already been exposed to it from someone else in the myriad of ways possible. A civil suit would be far more likely.
