Marquette PF/C Dawson Garcia

Just because you have one, doesn't mean you have to be one! + Just because you have an opinion, doesn't mean you have to share it!

Courtesy is also a virtue and a man with real character would consider how rude they are to take away their fellow fans enjoyment just to continue a personal vendetta!

Class is supposed to be part of the Carolina Way but it seems in short supply lately!

Off seasons are usually boring, but this one is exciting because of the change in leadership and the portal!

Garcia or Cockburn would make us Natty contenders almost instantly! Let's help entice one of them to join the Family!

Of the two, I want Garcia because he is a more natural fit for our needs!

2 things
1) If you're using the Matrix red pill blue pill analogy... If I'd taken the blue pill in November Id've voted for Trump. I clearly wanted change. Keep up with your analogies...
2) If you're using the other blue pill analogy, not all of us need help keeping that up.
Would #2 mean that ALL Canadians are hard?

I would imagine things to be pretty quiet on the Garcia front until he shows up on another visit or makes an announcement. No photos in school jerseys or tweets that I've seen. Very professional information gathering process which will lead to a quick decision (hopefully for the Heels!).

I expect his final decision to come within the next 2 weeks, if not sooner. It is getting pretty late to move to your next program, our incoming freshmen and the transfers are already on campus so the time line is beginning to tighten up. Not sure how many visits he planned on taking, suspect he has at least 1 more likely to Arizona. My guess is that he is targeting having his visits done and naming the school he will commit to in coordination to his announcement of his decision to stay in the draft or play college ball next season and that drop out NBA date is what, within the next couple weeks isn't it?

I think his final decision will come down to UNC and Marquette and we could have the MO factor.

Update, was not sure so I went back and checked, the NBA drop out date is next wed. Means his timeline for a final decision is tighter than I thought it was, I do expect him to announce his next school if he elects to drop out of the draft in the same statement.

How often do kids get drafted in the first round when they aren't invited to the combine? I have no idea, but I imagine not often. Unless maybe they have some side guarantee.

Some team with a 2nd round pick to burn will almost certainly grab Garcia if he is willing to risk falling out of the guaranteed money. But is that good enough?

I'm pretty sure we're more attractive than stewing in 2nd-round-to-undrafted limbo. But other teams may also be that attractive to Garcia.

Which is to say that I can see him pulling out of the draft, yet still taking his time about picking a school. But maybe not too long. As @DSouthr points out, wherever he goes, he'll want to get there fairly soon to work with his teammates and facilities.

He is not going into the draft this year, he very well may go to the G-League. I think it is UNC, Arizona or G-league. That is pure speculation though, based on my take of his actions.

Thanks but i'll ride it out, it's a relief not having a deranged hate monger crowding the TV camera every single day and it's politics not sports. We don't need to agree. Unfortunately most would blindly pull for their side regardless of the hate and injustice that side supports and stands for. That you can't admit the last resident of the White House was an absolute sham in terms of the way he carried himself, the way he made us look on the international stage and the division he stoked in this country not to mention having absolutely no clue what he was doing and lying his way through his lies- you are blinded either by your proud and unquestionable party loyalty or simple old man hate no matter how old you are. You can't understand why there is a groundswell of revolt from groups who have taken it for decades - women, minorites of all sorts be it ethnic, religious, sexual orientation- that one your side voted in made it fashionable to hate and the result was push back from these groups... The harder you get pushed, the harder you push back: it is a basic tenet of the human condition. No... It isnt all acceptable by everyone on the left and your steadfast belief that everyone on the left is happy with it is just a security blanket. These groups are in the sun now but even they know it's PC bullshit until something actually changes and if you aren't in a minority group, you don't get it you just push back because it's uncomfortable. Until people are truly equal, the forces that oppress them are in the wrong. I can't support a man who is an absolute joke and who was the catalyst behind much of this revolt. I'm sure anything he did or said that didn't set 100% with you was just "fake news" = convenient. President Biden is nowhere near my favorite choice but at least he has some semblance of leadership amongst politicians who are all woven with thread tinged with corruption. Sadly you can throw stones, swig the rage-o-hol, keep the balls the neighborhood kids throw in your yard all you want as you know no matter what you'd have voted for that last one again even if the greatest beacon of hope was the other choice because, again... politics in this country are now sporting events. Love the side you support regardless of what the do as long as your team is winning and hate the other side no matter what. We're all getting older and regardless of how hard you yell at clouds the younger generation who are more plugged in, sharper and more capable than we were will take over soon and by and large the majority of them aren't woven with hate cloth and won't stand for do nothing good old boy bullshit nor do they vote based simply on what color tie the candidate wears.
tl/dr certified wind bag.

That’s one of the biggest crocks of shit I’ve ever read. You have dain bramage.
Dawson Garcia logs into THR to see what UNC fans think about his potential commitment to the school:

I thought recruits rarely visited these sites and wouldn’t put much stock in anything they read here anyway.

Would really like to see us get this guy. I didn't watch Marquette at all last year, and maybe he played way over his head when they came to Chapel Hill. But on that night we didn't have an answer for him.

I saw about 5-6 Marquette games beside the Carolina game. He is the real deal as a College stud and future pro.
He also dropped 28 on Nova.

That was his best game of the season, judging from his game-by-game stats. So, yeah, he's quite good - but maybe not that good.

The selling point is that he "always" plays his best when he on's the court with UNC. Therefore, he ought to be on the court with UNC every game. Only way to do that is to be part of the UNC team.

Works for me.

I call it "sports logic."

Hearing some whispers with no conformation Ill is out, Arizona has a up hill battle, Marquette is stronger than most think and I am expecting good news by midnight wed but take this with a grain of salt because I do not have conformation... I am concerned about Shaka Smart...Kid wants a legit chance at a final 4 ring...NBA wants him to bulk up more, may not be locked in to one more and done. He may announce Tuesday so that he is not caught up in the wash of multiple guys pulling out of the draft on wed. In the end it may come down to the relationship Dawson already had with Hubert when they were recruiting him out of high school, had it not been for the Kessler commit rumor has it Dawson would have been a Tar Heel because of the work Hubert put in with him, the operative word is TRUST and Dawson trusts Hubert.

Other recruiting items the new 22 offer, duke really feels like they have that kid wrapped up but he really likes what Hubert is talking. Doesn't seem like the staff is feeling it with Stoudt, may be thinking he stays mid west. Washington is keeping things pretty close to the vest and staff just has no idea what he is thinking and is reason additional offers have now been given out. Looks like Green is out unless something drastically changes. Lively, it is anyone's guess, G-league is a real concern but Hubert wants him bad. I have nothing on Whitmore.

Did ya notice how quickly Bacot's seafood deal was announced, there was a reason it was announced when it was. Now Sam Howell's deal has been announced, could it be that UNC wants to show recruits that they are NIL friendly?

Great post D! Thanks for sharing.

Good gracious Garcia would be a great grab! Alliterations aside, UNC would go from top 20 to top 5. Want a ring young man? Arizona, Illinois nor Marquette has any chance at providing you with that!

I'm getting excited about that possibility becoming more real!!!

I did a post, may have been on this thread where I said outside of a miracle cure, I felt we could stick with who we have. Well, miracle cure became a real possibility with Garcia, a cure that at the time did not look like it could happen, much less would happen. So we will have to see how this plays out but you now know what I suspect it will play out like.

But more important than what Garcia does or does not do, I could not be more pleased with what Hubert has done since taking over as our head coach. Being honest, I was in the just by a little bit preferring Wes to get the gig over Hubert. I told ya my preferred guy was King, if I didn't come flat out and say it I know I had to lead you in that direction. So yeah, Hubert would have been my 3rd in line choice but I now STRONGLY believe I was wrong in that. I could not be more impressed with what Hubert has done, it is as if he has taken every concern I had and aimed it in the direction I wanted. I am PROUD now that what I wanted to happen didn't, I am PROUD as heck Hubert is now our head coach and I do think 1 day Hubert will be indicted in to the NCAA HOF as head coach of UNC!

Now I loved me some Roy Williams and I consistently shared there was no one else I wanted to be our head coach than Roy and I do not now in any way disavow that stance. But you guys know, I did not always love how Roy did things, I LOVED that he ran a CLEAN, yes CLEAN program but there were some coaching aspects I did not love and you guys know that, I was not shy about talking about those things. Well, I have faith that Hubert will as well run a clean program but I love the changes Hubert is making from a coaching stand point, changes that i honestly did not see Roy making. I am all in Hubert's corner now and I hope there is still room on his band wagon, heck, can I drive that puppy for a minute? LOL

A commitment here would make this team a Final Four caliber team, if there is any doubt. Talk about deep and talented... He would be the final piece needed...
